I'm new to da' whole ebike world. This is hands down the best trunk bike reack review on TH-cam. Def leaning towards the Allen Premier but wanted to know if it will hold weight of 1 75lb ebike. Thanks and keep up the good work!🔥🔥🔥
A 75 pound E bike would greatly surpass the weight capacity. There’s always a total weight capacity for a rack, but also a per bike weight capacity. You need to buy a hitch rack for a bike that heavy. But also, most hitch racks will also not take a bike that is 75 pounds. I would suggest checking out 1up if your bike is really that heavy. 1up-usa.com/product/2in-xtreme-duty
Hi, thanks for your video! We have a Huyndai Kona and I'm thinking of getting the Deluxe or Premier for our 2 bikes. Do you think that their rack will be okay to drive on highways at 140km/hour speed? That's my main question.
Do you find in your experience that the hook of the nylon straps damages the car (or at least scratch the paint)? And would you recommend putting cushioning to prevent that, if so what would work? Do you recommend removing the rack and putting it in your trunk while you're out and about cycling? I'm just worried that it will get stolen!
You might find our longer, written, review, helpful. www.twowheelingtots.com/allen-trunk-bike-rack-comparison-review/ They have special pieces of vinyl coated plastic “car scratch protectors” that help prevent scratching (sold separately). Additionally, the rack could absolutely very easily get stolen if you leave it on your car all the time. It really depends how theft-safe you think the area is that you’re parking your car in.
Thank you. I want a roof rack since i now have a cool little coupe lol. But i need to ride right now so a good cheap way is always preferred. Trails are weel within town so i dont fear failure much .. Ty
I have the deluxe. But I alway have issues with the first bike's pedal potentially hitting my tailgate. What can I do to adjust the rack set up to avoid this?
Trunk racks have this issue with many cars, which is one of their overall general drawbacks. The closeness of the rack to your car is highly dependent on the shape of your vehicle and there’s not much you can do to adjust it. We would recommend using something to cover the pedal so that it doesn’t scratch the car. We have heard of people using Koozies or you could buy something specifically for this purpose. @@Twowheelingtotsbikes I had the same problem with my pedal kinda hitting on my car. I simply took out that pedal from my hybrid bike and I just put it back on when I'm off for a bike ride. BTW, thank you very much for this video. I just bought the deluxe version for 2 bicycles and your explanations helped me figure out that i chose the best one for my needs. have a great day Thanks :)
The front tire could as they often swing towards the car, but if you use a velcro strap to connect the front tire to the frame of the bike while loaded on the rack, you shouldn’t have an issue.
What size bike can fit the ultra compact rack? I just bought a adult 26’ Huffy female bike from Walmart. Walmart assembles the bike and I’m afraid the bike is too large to fit into my car. So I bought the only bike rack on the shelf. Now I’m watching videos to put it together.
No, the weigh limit per bike is only 35 lb.! You’ll need a really heavy duty hitch rack that is made specifically for e-bikes to carry a bike that heavy.
Potentially no... there are some trunk racks that work with spoilers, like the Saris Bones EX, but even racks designed for that purpose won't necessarily work with all cars
@Obama Barrack Thanks! I've got plenty of that. It's a shame I didn't think to use it until you said so. I bought what Amazon calls "hook socks." They fit perfectly, but electrical tape would've been great.
It's best to tie them off, so they don't flap around. We like to use fastening straps (ex: amzn.to/43kEJoD) to bundle up the extra, which you can see briefly in the video here: th-cam.com/video/hYp9m7OT4aU/w-d-xo.html.
You can wrap a lockable cable around the bike frames, but any thief who is well prepared could cut through it. We never leave our bikes unattended while on a rack.
I've been using the premier with my ebike for a year now and it works fine. It's right at the weight limit of around 70 lbs with the battery removed. I'd prefer to get a hitch carrier, but it's a lot more money.
Do you have any bike recommendations for a 10 year old beginner? The proportions of my daughter's current bike (20") are horrible and make her knee come up to almost her chest even though she's on her tip toes when standing up.
It will depend on her height and inseam. Most 10 year olds are already on 26" bikes. Here's a helpful article: www.twowheelingtots.com/kids-bike-sizes-guide-a-new-trick-to-finding-the-best-fit/
Ugh, that sucks. This however, can happen to any trunk rack, which is why it's extremely important to tighten, re-tighten, as well as double-check multiple times. Tying off straps to prevent slippage can help, but in the end, there is never a 100% guarantee on any rack.
These racks are garbage. Just wait till you try and take it out of the hitch and it gets stuck with NO WAY to get it out. Customer Service gives you the run around versus solving the problem. Felt compelled to post every where I can about the poor quality of this rack.
This review was amazing, thank you so much!

I intend on getting a spoiler installed on my car later in the year. Will this rack still fit if I have a spoiler?

I just bought the 2-bike compact. The old Bell carrier i had had rubber on the hooks. This one does not. Has it damaged anyone's paint?
Put electrical tape on it

What did you do with all the leftover strap hanging
I use them for extra protection. I tie nods and stuff.

Helpful video. Thank you.
You're welcome! Hope you find the right rack for your adventures!
How can you take the ultra compact off the trunk without undoing the straps?
You would have to remove the straps, as they are what is keeping the rack connected to the car. Am I misunderstanding your question?
Would this work with an E-Bike maybe?
No, an ebike would be too heavy.

Hi can I use this on a mitsubishi lancer with spoiler?
Check Allen's rack fit finder.
Hi, are those highway legal?
Yes. But be sure to know your local laws regarding visibility of your license plate.
It's a stable rack, but the 2-bike rack made a massive long dent on the trunk of my 2013 Honda Accord
Well that’s because your bike is too heavy.

Ease of assembly
It’s super easy!
If you're going to put more than 2 bikes on a car you might as well just invest in a truck at that point 😄.
If you like trucks or don’t have a lot of kids… 🤣🤷🏼♀️

This is a trunk rack that doesn't attach to your hitch, so that won't be a problem.
Do you see a hitch mount on this rack? 🥴
