Do prevailing wage rates apply if a public works project is processed through an independent contractor? For example, I work for a company that is under contract with a municipality to operate its drinking water system for the community. If our company hires and pays for a subcontractor to replace a water main, do we have to pay prevailing wage rates? Please note that my company gets reimbursed by the municipality for the total cost of the project after the fact.
Let me know if I understand this correctly: when doing a pubic works job as an electrician apprentice, I make 25/hr, and a journeyman makes 50/hr. The prevailing wage is 25/hr going into my 401k. The closer I get to 50/hr, the less goes into the 401k from prevailing wages, and the more I'd see in my take-home pay?
