Politicians for the most part do not focus their marketing on the youth vote, because youth basically never votes. In comparison older voters vote in much higher proportions. If citizens getting money in a crisis like in 2020 can be a lifeline and save families, jobs and the economy... then imagine how all citizens getting Yang's monthly freedom dividen or UBI when times are 'normal' will be great for people, create jobs and make our everyday lives happier.
Yeah, when you think about all the ways that this could help people, it's an amazing thing. Even people that are doing okay, think about what they could do with an extra $1,000 a month. Sure, to the wealthy that might be pocket change, but to the average person an extra $1,000 a month could go to paying off their home sooner, helping fund their kids college education, going into retirement savings, or even travel or supporting hobbies, which puts it right back into the economy. Personally, while I'm surviving fine right now, an extra $1,000 a month changes my life because it would really allow me to boost my savings rate, which puts me that much closer to being a homeowner.
Unfortunately, the corporatists and landlords aren't stupid enough to keep prices down when everyone's income rises. Imagine $1,000 a month more income when average rent rises to $5,000. Costs will simply rise to scoop up everyone's excess income. And the political class won't care because most of the wealth will still flow in their direction.
