    Hello Mark
    Thank you for this very informative video.
    Do you have any video for canon 50mm prime lens, or can you tell good aperture values for everything focus special when you photographing with a far away background and with few feet away subjects.
    Thank you

    hi Mark, I love your videos and I follow you in this channel. i have 2 questions
    1- Does this lens have the dof guide Nikon AF NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8D Lens?
    2- I use the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 but i notice that manually it would focus after 1 m. my frustration is that it is hard to calculate between 1m and infinite. What do you recommend for this lens for this lens until i get the prime this prime lnes by nikon. Thanks for your help

    Thank you very much for your excellent advice, a very useful and informative video. The difficulty I find with hyperfocal focusing is that there is not always something to focus at the required distance within your composition. Any suggestions in that case? For example, if I have only one subject in the frame that is far enough away and I would like everything to be in focus from there, is it better to approach with a lens like a 24mm or move away and use a 75mm? Thanks, and keep up the good work. Well done!

    Outsight lost me at
    'Select Format: 35mm__ 6x6cm__ 4x5in__ Digital LMF __'
    I get the 35mm for film but the '6x6cm__ 4x5in__ Digital LMF __' have me lost.
    I have no clue what those mean or how to find out. none of those numbers show up in anything about a nikon d3100.
    I have a 35mm lens f/1.8.

    just it would be more helpful if you mention the sensor size when suggesting the lenses wide coverage angles to know about the cropping factor which as you said impacts the given numbers... I mean when you suggest a 21 mm lens do you mean a 21 mm equivalent to the full frame sensor size?

    • @lylestavast7652
      @lylestavast7652 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That Leica is a full frame sensor - it's crop factor is 1.0

  • @xevUT

    One thing I don't quite understand is how the DoF scale embedded on some lenses can apply to different sensors - do I assume correctly that it's calibrated for FX sensors only?

    After watching Doc Martin I noticed often they film scenes with the actors close and in focus with the scenic surroundings in focus. How is this done? Imagine this video with you in focus and the buildings behind you in focus.

  • @ericgeorge5483
    @ericgeorge5483 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    OK, what happens if you don't have a distance scale, how then do you calculate H F D????

    • @Didereaux
      @Didereaux 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to estimate distances. If you are not good at that then fall back to auto focus or manual focus and look carefully at the scene to determine where you are actually in focus...adjust accordingly. Hyper-focal dist focusing is not an end-all it is merely a handy tool useful mostly for street or anything not needing a ficus on infinity.

      peace of cake use the website. And set it to w.e fstop u set ur lense to. 3.5 or when you zoom in all the way your at 5.6 just use the website and dial in the aperture

    • @linden5850
      @linden5850 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’ll just have to calculate the distance you need, then measure or approximate it when you focus. I’m assuming your lens, like many these days, has no distance scale. It would be nice if manufacturers would build something like this into their cameras. It already knows your focal length, f stop, and sensor size... so it should be simple enough to put a menu option in for “set hyperfocal distance”. Press the button and viola, it focuses to the proper distance for your current settings.
