    • @ewaleokadia76
      @ewaleokadia76 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @Tessie Don't feel bad for Hedda; she made millions off gossip. What's wrong with seeing a photo of Hedda falling because a chair was pulled from under her? She sometimes used the pen as a weapon to hurt other actors' careers. To have her publicly humiliated serves her right.

    • @ewaleokadia76
      @ewaleokadia76 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @Tessie No, she also ruined careers and even wrote falsehoods when she wanted to. For this she got paid good money. I am sure she is resting in peace but she used her talent for gossip as a weapon, too. It just saddens me that she couldn't be more honorable. Yes, she raised her, son, William, who became an actor. Essentially, many actors had to suck up to her or walk on pins and needles to not get on her s**t list. That's no life to live.😑

    • @ewaleokadia76
      @ewaleokadia76 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Tessie I understand your point of view and I DO respect it. Yes, she was a single mother who raised her son instead of going on welfare. The point here is that she was HUGELY popular figure in her lifetime. Therefore, there is enough reference material to fact check what this video is saying about Hedda's life. She is still a source of curiosity like many actors from the Golden Age. Plus, there are still people alive who can remember her as she died in 1966. Ordinary people like you and I will return to dust and will be remembered only by family and friends. For one person alone to be able to make or break people's careers, to have such enormous power is uncanny. She will always be a source of mystery and even, at times, a source of documentaries and such. She is not unlike many other popular American icons such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable , etc.

    • @prettyyoungthingpyt5015
      @prettyyoungthingpyt5015 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @Tessie you are just as dumb as her.. So it was ok to hurt people with her vicious vile tongue but now that she is DEAD, IT'S HUSH HUSH... HELL NO!! LET THE TRUTH BE HEARD. PEOPLE LISTENED TO HER GOSSIP BECAUSE IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME THEN. THERE WAS NO GOOGLE, NO WIKIPEDIA, NOTHING TO RESEARCH AND FIND OUT THE TRUTH... SHE COULD HAVE MADE A HONEST LIVING AS A NURSE, DOCTOR, SCHOOL TEACHER ETC ETC TO SUPPORT HER SON AND NOT DESTROY PEOPLE'S LIVES... WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN OF THE PEOPLE SHE DESTROYED??? HUH? WHAT ABOUT LITTLE TOMMY WHO'S MOMMY DIDN'T GET THE CONTRACT BECAUSE THIS WOMAN MADE UP LIES AND BLACK BALLED HER OR HIM FOREVER IN HOLLYWOOD, WHILE SHE LAUGHED IN GLEE AND SIPPED WINE WITH HER FRIENDS. They came running at each other in a wild fury and then proceeded to waltz together. She was furious. Plus he was a pretty decent chap by all accounts. He had a distinguished war record that he never crowed on about. Even put his career on hold to re enlist in 1940.

No wonder her son, William Hopper, didn't really ever want to be in pictures. He rose above his awful mother and became quite successful as Paul Drake in the Perry Mason series. Deb 7 nope it’s pretty much hitting the nail on the head, think about it, youtubers have the power to hold our attention for long periods of time and we almost believe them and everything they say like the news no matter if it’s true or not like if 2 youtubers are fighting then are friends 2 days later and generated 40 million or more views on their feud videos then it’s obviously a publicity stunt which seems to be this woman’s forte. It’s crazy because my mom would tell me stories of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis or Bette Davis and Talulah Bankhead and as I got older I realized all the stories she told me about Mae West and everybody I grew up loving all generated from this woman imagine the type of damage she would have done with the internet and there’s plenty of youtubers that have involvements with the fbi and cia look at jake and Ryan Paul and as far as getting people jobs in Hollywood TH-cam seems to just be a step behind from having its own casting couch.

    6:01 Hedda's husband, who eventually divorced her, was 27 years older than her. Maybe that was a deciding factor for her loathing Chaplin and his relationships with younger women.
    Also, speaking about Dalton Trumbo at 5:46, I remember reading that during the screening of The Sandpiper (starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor), Hopper kicked up a fuss on seeing Trumbo credited as the screenwriter and Elizabeth Taylor turned around and told her to "shut the fuck up". Goes to show how tired a lot of people were of Hopper.

    I first heard of Hedda Hopper when she made a cameo appearance on The Beverly Hillbillies. Granny thought that Hopper was looking for a husband because she was wearing one of her extravagant hats. Mainly because that Cousin Pearl was wearing a similar hat when she was courting for a husband. I definitely agree with Granny when she called Hopper a 30 year loser. And when Mr. Drysdale referred to her as a troublemaker!

    If Hopper was a conservative and demonized gays, then what was she doing in show business....she was a chorus girl in New York, married a man who had already been married five times. She quickly divorced him. Then she acted in over 150 films, attended every Hollywood party, and then moved on to being a gossip columnist. She lived and worked in the midst of Hollywood where liberal ideas were the norm. She wore outrageous crazy hats. She doesn't sound that conservative to me. Half of show business is gay, and I am sure she knew that. To say that Hopper ruined many careers is an overstatement.

    At The Oscars 1963, Crawford accepted the award for Anne Bancroft, for "The Miracle Worker". And pissed Bette off big time. "At the after party, in the center of each table were bottles of vodka, gin, bourbon, scotch. The first thing Bette did was take a glass and fill it with scotch, right to the top-no water, no ice. “This is for La Belle Crawford,” she said." “She doesn’t drink scotch,” I said. (William Frey) “She drinks vodka.”
    “I don’t care what she drinks. This is going in her fucking face!"

    1962 was a tough year for the Oscars. Davis' rivals were: Katharine Hepburn, "Long Days Journey Into Night"; Anne Bancroft; "The Miracle Worker"; Geraldine Page, "Sweet Bird of Youth", and Lee Remick, "Days of Wine and Roses". Davis lost because her performance was way over the top! The actors had an even tougher field. Robert Preston, "The Music Man"; Keir Dullea, "David and Lisa"; Montgomery Clift, "Freud", and Dean Stockwell, "Long Days Journey into Night" are just a few who didn't make the roster. Some great movies were snubbed, as well. Just not enough slots.
