I bought a 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti for $24,000 with 17,000 miles on it. It's an excellent vehicle. I've driven BMWs extensively over the years, and I must say the Giulia surpasses them in looks, drive quality, and technology. The cruise assist is especially something I can't live without now.

I just picked up a new 2024 Guilia Veloce in Vesuvio Grey last week. She’s an upgrade from my 2014 Guilietta 2.0L Turbo Diesel (which has been passed on to my 16 year old daughter). Unfortunately the budget wouldn’t stretch to the new 2024 QV. Probably best that I start with the 4 cylinder first given the way I drive! 😂 I have my sights on a secondhand 2024 QV in a couple of years though…. Love your Guilia reviews and look forward to your next one (once you’ve purchased a new Guilia!) 😉

Great vid, but some *more details & clarifications* 🙂
    - Giulia in 2024 is now up to Series 5
    - Series 5 gains improved Level 2 autonomous driving from Tonale
    - The 2023 models (Series 4) brought LED lights and a mechanical LSD (as you note), but also revised, GTA-derived suspension hardware and tuning
    - only EU, UK and China get the retuned extra power from 2023 (but 0-100km/h time is the same and you only gain 1km/h in max speed)
    - 2020 is what brought new colors like Montreal Green tricoat, in 2024 replaced by the metallic from Tonale (Fangio Green in the USA)
    - Akrapovic isn't available in all world markets
    - the 2021 (Series 3) during the pandemic had its painted roof made of steel and inferior full leather trim like on the 4-cylinder cars
    - original Alcantara seats had higher quality Nappa leather (as Sparco option still does)
    - two-done dashboards ended before 2021 along with choice of stitching and matching stitching on dashboard and doors (now all grey, unless you option Sparco that come with white/green stitching still, but on seats only)
    - brake caliper colors were also dropped (and vary between markets, but at most there's only 2 choices instead of original 4)
    - some markets received the GTA rear taillight only from 2023 (Series 4), but otherwise these in Europe came in 2020 (Series 2) as you note
    - some markets from about 2023 received extra warranty
    - the original series was just a Giulia (project codename 952), Giulia series 1 is the 5 seater etc upgrade, from Giulia series 2 is the improved build (improved engine port injection fixing carbon build up, improved electrical systems, revised engine bay to stop water ingress, improved centre console, thicker glass, most custom options and new colors (eg Montreal and Ocra GT)), Giulia series 3 is the stripped model during the pandemic (standard steel roof and lower grade full leather trim), Series 4 is the dynamic pinnacle and with digital instruments plus LSD, current Series 5 has reduced paint options but improved autonomous driving
    - first Giulia and Series 1 owner claiming their steering is better is just semantics (newer Series have the same direct steering but feel different due to the revised steering for autonomous driving, which is what GTA has, and these cars too have the Ackermann angle skip, but to a reduced degree (and Series 4 and up are the dynamically superior anyway))
    - the forged Trofeo/Tecnico wheels are made by Fuchs and the Alfa dials/5-holes in Thailand
    - the 100th Anniversary and Super Sport models are trim specials that you can't add options to... and are only marketing hype (limited, but not individually numbered like the NRING for example)
    - this Giulia/Stelvio generation ended for North America in June 2024 (with the Series 4, which also no longer had CCBs (available elsewhere though))
    - if you option the Sparco seat, you lose steering and seat heating (on Series 2, the standard seats had heating front and rear).

@@neilmitchell9421 it seems like they are updating every April to June. Wouldn't be surprised if they squeeze one more final series. Anyway, this time they only updated the autonomous driving function (same to that on the Tonale). From July 2024, there's also new EU driver safety requirements so it may have picked up some of that rubbish too or this update may just be due to it. Just like the 100th Anniversary opened the launch of the Series 4, so does the Super Sport open the Series 5. When did you get yours? Colour? The colour choice is another Series 5 change (the original Montreal is gone; Trofeo white is back but only on for the SS).

A really thorough and useful review for anyone considering to buy a 2nd hand QV. Great job!
I've owned a QV for 7 years and I don't think I could disagree with a single statement you made, except that from my side virtually nothing has gone wrong or worn out from new. For me, so far, this has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. I suppose that means I am on borrowed time and a big bill in coming soon - likely with 24h of writing this comment.
I could not agree more about the battery - absolutely the #1 thing to change if any lights pop up on the dash. From my side I leave my car on trickle charge if I am due to be leaving it in the garage for more than 1 week as the electronics on board do seem to be quite thirsty. This helps avoid the heart-sinking warnings when you start her up in the morning and you've got somewhere you really need to get to. Even if you think you know the reason, it just puts that doubt in your mind.
So far I have only taken my car back to the dealer for servicing because I think that with such a relatively rare car, not many private garages will have any experience with it. Of course that opinion might change as soon as something major goes wrong and I'm facing a £4000 bill from a dealer and a £2000 bill from a private garage.
Regarding insurance, like you my renewal premium this year was 62% more than it was last year; every year previously it had been a very modest rise. I renew 3 cars at the same time and whilst all had gone up more than inflation (perhaps 20% or so), the QV seems to have been singled out for special punishment. I can only imagine that insurance companies are seeing very high repair costs from accidents in this machine. And that means it may take much less of an accident than you would imagine before they will just write it off. The ultimate ignominy.
    Anyway, always enjoy your ramblings!

    I too like a left-field car and I tend to keep them. I’ve had Volvo 850R, V70R and own a V60 Polestar from new which I’ll keep. Also had 70s & 80s 911s and Honda S2000.
Owning lots of cars sounds great but it’s a pain and expensive. I love the Quadrifoglio and nearly bought a GTA, but that was a risk too far. I’m thinking a pre-registered 24 model which should hopefully be trouble free. Carbon seats are seductive but ultimately I’m buying for myself and not the future. I also like heated seats and wheel too much.

Great vid! 9 months in, I still have not really got my head around this car, it's not what I expected. It's more refined and sensible than expected -the interior design and seating position, refinement, etc are superb - and that's coming from 9 years of Jag V8's, and German execs before that. It handles UK roads (i.e. totally crap ones where the road budget's vanished on something else) superbly, unlike many quick cars. It is also however a bit too "modern car" with little control feel, hardly any genuine engine noise (just flappery), and a very turbocharged feel at low revs - which the gearbox seems keen to stay at. Drive it in manual and D or Race and it comes alive for sure, but - while totally planted - its effing quick to a license concerning level. Maybe I'm just old (at a similar age to you) but I want a bit more mechanical feedback and noise, and to be able to enjoy myself at lower speeds, as I do in my old Boxster S. I need to get mine to Europe, here it feels a bit wasted and I'm considering a lesser Giulia as my "daily", as the basic shape and layout of the car is so "right". Its a huge shame more "normal" Giulias were not sold, I see hardly any about, half the Giulias I see are QF's. Mine has also ruined me financially (the brakes mainly) and broken down (well, stopped then refused to start for a long time - it never got towed). Neither of my V6 156's did that (the GTA did ruin me financially keeping it "right" in the same way, but never broke). It was the fuel pump, so a known thing - expertly listed by you - but it's still a big blot on the copybook.

@@Back_Road_Hero I know what you mean - I picked mine up from its little fuel pump mishap last week and was immediately back in love with it. However, even before that little mishap (which might be covered by warranty) It is so far costing me more than £1 per mile in servicing/repairs. Skewed heavily by needing new brakes immediately, but ideally it wants rear shocks now as well, which would be another £2-3k and guarantee it will do a whole year/10k miles having cost £1 per mile not including fuel. I'm guessing a 2.0T would be a fair bit cheaper than that.....
