    10 years ago, my 2 year old daugther got angry with me and knew exactly how to cause pain to me:-) At that time, I was white angry with her. And today, tadaaa, I used your manual and it was like doing magic! Without this video I would never dare to undergo such a repair. Thanks a mill, I finally can take my grills off again and expose those beautiful yellow kevlar cones!!!

    Has anyone else tried this method with a pair of 686? The tweeters are not the same but smilar looking ones both models were produced same year..Thank you for the video!!

      Hi @emrelsd. I actually had a pair of 686’s as presence speakers a long time ago. I would hazard a guess that they’d come apart in much the same way. I believe the tweeter is the same, but the aluminium badge and the plastic behind it is just slightly shorter in length.

    I fixed mine with a handheld vacuum pump and an infant nose cleaner. I cut a section out if the ball area until it fit over the dent like a suction cup and connected the pointed end to the tubing on the pump, applied a small amount of suction and the dome came right back.

    I feel your pain! I had my 2 fronts and the centre done in one go and 2 weeks later the centre was pushed in again! My kids are now a bit more grown up so now I'm going to repair if possible but replace again if not.

    In a cool environment (Under 74F)
    1. Blow dryer
    2. Clear packing tape.
    3. Heat the tape not the tweeter
    4. Place over dent trying to make contact inside crater
    5. Go do something else for an hour or so
    6. Put a finger gently on a non damaged part to hold dome so you do not pull dome out
    7. Lift carefully straight up but this is where what you do next will vary (Sometimes angling it a bit will help here and sometimes not)
    At best and If you are lucky the dent will come up perfectly but it will leave a faint discoloration where the dent was. At worst you will get the dent out but it will bumpy in the dent area. I add this because not every BW tweeter dome can be accessed this way. The bottom line is BW took way to long to address this and add tweeter grills.

    I got a set of 800 Nautilus from a guy and one of the tweeters on the sc1 was dented. Ordered a new one from B&W parts and started to take on the repair. Once apart I basically did what you did but I found using a phone or tablet rubber tipped stylus worked magic.
    Give that a try for the people wanting to attempt this delicAte form of paintless dent removal. 😁

    Hi excellent video! I know this is an old video so crossing my fingers for an answer. How is the diaphragm itself attached to the plastic frame? Glue? What kind of glue is apropriate for this? And how do I safely remove it? Many thanx 🙏

    • @_rowjack_4761
      @_rowjack_4761  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi. It was glued to the diaphragm. I had an old tweeter completely apart a year ago (although didn’t video it). I googled the same question at the time and deduced it was either cyanoacrylate or epoxy. I assumed that being B&W they’d use cyanoacrylate and so I used nail polish remover. That loosened it substantially and I was able to fully and cleanly remove the rest with a craft knife. I didn’t put it back together, but if I had, I would use cyanoacrylate. Only because I absolutely hate using epoxy 😂 Hope this is helpful.

      Thank you for replying 🙏 I got a pair of 684 S1 yesterday with one damaged diaphragm. Figured I will try and replace it myself as soon as I can source one of decent quality. 😊 Job seems a bit fiddly but pretty straight forward. Maybe I'll even record it.

    Hey Frankie thanks for this video! I have a 686 and it looks like that little plastic cone on the back of the tweeter is broken off. Should I re-attach it or is it unnecessary?

    • @_rowjack_4761
      @_rowjack_4761  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would definitely reattach it. I can't say for sure but it looks as though its there to dampen vibrations and probably helps prevent the tweeter sounding tinny.

    • @brodiehaward
      @brodiehaward 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you call b&w I believe you can order just the dome/diaphragm. I am not sure if they send it assembled with the plastic plate and the terminals, or with just the dome coil and bare leads. I believe you get the dome and have to attach it to your original plastic plate with terminal connections. I have found b&w very helpful and willing to sell you parts no questions asked.

    My B&W 683 tweeter replacement part came without the plastic housing part with foam material on the back of the tweeter. At the base of the plastic housing are threads for the plastic ring to secure the tweeter in the speaker box. So, I need to remove this housing part from my old one with the broken tweeter dome and reattach it to my new tweeter replacement part. What do I need to do to remove this part without breaking it and attach it to my new one? Is this housing part held in place using some sort of a super glue? Any ideas?
