I just wanted to say I subscribed and I love your game videos. There are hundreds of how to play videos but yours are probably the most interesting to watch. The rules are clear, the graphics sharp and the dialogue entertaining. I enjoy enjoy the bad jokes, so many of these videos out there are so dry that my mind wanders. Please keep up the good work.
What a great video. Informative yet entertaining. You folks are very likable and easy to watch. I recently bought an Oculus Go and have the VR version of Settlers of Catan. However I never installed it due to being intimidated by the specter of learning the rules. Your video has motivated me to install it and play. One of my sons who lives several hours away has an Oculus Go as well. He is a gamer like myself. I see some Settlers of Catan in our future. Great effort....well done!
So glad we could help in getting you up and running with this great game (still one of our most played after all these years). I have not heard of the VR version of Catan, that sounds so cool. Let us know how you get on with it! :)
I was sad when I realised you stopped posting new videos. This video was so good, but I'm still left with one question. When u use the beginners setup how do you determine which of the settlements is your second? So from which settlement to you get your first resourses?
1) Do you have build a settlement near the harbour (at the ending point) to get resourers..? 2) in my turn play the dice...Can i play more than 2 or more development card at my turn ? Thank you your explanation helped a lot 👍 i like the ladys Voice 😁
Great video, very helpful. I recently had a dispute with a friend over the longest road card. So we were playing a three player game, myself, Jimmy, and Bob. I had a longest road, then Bob got the longest road from me, giving him 4 VP's (cause of the 4 point swing). After Jimmy stole it from bob he had 6 VP's (Bob had 4 VP's then Jimmy got it and got the additional 2 points). In the end Bob had a road of 11 lengths long, Jimmy had one of 11 long also, I had one of 6. I then broke off Jimmy's longest road, so then it would go to Bob, but my logic was that the longest road would essentially go to "limbo" so Bob would get the longest road, but since I broke the longest road he wouldn't get 8 points, only 2, as the 6 point swing in this case wouldn't apply as he didn't build the longer road. I can explain more if this is confusing.
Glad to be of help :) I have to admit I am not entirely sure I understand what you mean by "4 point swing". If i read your comment correctly, you seem to be implying that each time someone steals the longest road card from another player, the value of that card increases by 2? The value of the longest road card is only ever 2 points. If you beat the value of someone else's longest road or if the longest road is broken and a new player qualifies for it, then the new player may claim the card but its value is still only 2 VP.
I don't know what you're saying but the card is only worth 2 vps. It doesn't stack to be worth more. You listed a 6 point swing which doesn't make sense. The card is worth 2 and the person who has at any point the longest road gets the card. You don't have to build a road to receive it when the previous owner was cut off by a settlement. Its instantly rewarded and you can win when it gets to your turn of it put you past 10
thanks very much. I think going over rules too quickly can leave you lost. We try to run a fine balance of concise but ensuring we cover everything. Hopefully we get it right more often than not hehe
Great video guys and girls. When you use the maritime ship trade at corner ports that has the "?", does it have to be three of the same resource OR can it be 3 different resources? Thanks in advance for the answer.
thanks dude. We are using a Blue Yeti as our microphone (highly rated by a lot of youtubers/podcasters). The main camera is a little old now but is a Panasonic HC-V380 and still holds up well :) We also use a Canon G7X for our down shots. Hope that is all of help!
Hey, I have a query. If I play a robber on a resource which is only occupied by me then will I be able to play the knight on my next turn by way of development card ?
Please send a clarification on this rule if you could because I just lost a game because other players did not allow me to play a knight on a resource only occupied by me.
Say for instance. If a player has 7 resources and a 7 is rolled does that person have to pay? Or does the player have to have at least 8 resources to pay half or (4 resources)?
We are on facebook if you want to look us up (should be in the description below the video) or you can ask questions here and I will try and answer them as fast as i can! :D
I won the first time playing the other night versus three veteran players ! We only played up to 7 pts for a shorter game. They played by the rules of the development cards IN HAND (so in theory they could be stolen during a robber turn ). Is that wrong or another version of the rules ? I think I understand most of the game now.
While the development cards can be kept in hand, the important thing is that they are kept hidden until they are used. When a robber steals a card from another player, they steal 1 random RESOURCE card. This means that although you may opt to keep both your resources and development cards in your hand, the development cards may never be stolen. The development cards also do not count to your hand limit of 7 cards. Glad you had fun with your first run through. It is always great when your first play of a game ends in a victory :)
thanks! you can only use the maritime trade when it is your own turn. Effectively it is in place of trading with a human and only the active player is allowed to offer trades.
In the fifth edition of the game, you only get starting resource cards (just after round two of placing initial settlements completed) for your first settlement, NOT second.
I'm afraid this in incorrect. The rules regarding the starting resources are the same in 5th edition. "Each player receives his starting resources immediately after building his second settlement; for each terrain hex adjacent to his second settlement, he takes a corresponding resource card form the supply" - quote from the 5th edition Catan rules from the website. It's in the Almanac section under Set-Up Phase, page 12. Hope this helps clarify things :)
Thanks for the clarification. I went back and checked once more, you are absolutely right :) I guess my confusion came from the earlier part of the almanac where it says that we get the resource cards only for the initial settlement.
Glad to be of help :) It is a strangely set out rulebook. I find it odd that so many of what I would consider "core" rules are tucked away in the alamanc.
In Risk we would each play 2 colors, not combined but 2 different players each, or have a neutral 3rd player placing at beginning or alternate playing 3rd player..
The idea of the harbor tokens is to allow you to randomize the location of the harbors. Otherwise the location of the harbors would be fixed each game due to the construction of the board. They are, however, entirely optional since, as you say, there are already harbors printed on the board :)
ive been in quarantine for so long i actually got a bit annoyed how close they are sitting to each other. then i remembered that there was a life before covid :'(
This is the best video on TH-cam explaining the ruleset for Catan. Bravo😁
Best explanation I’ve found!!! Thank you so much!
Really glad you liked it :)
Thank you for this, a very clear and concise explanation.

Easily the best Catan explainer on TH-cam!

Very cool. Just got this as a gift. Your love play helped a lot too
Thank You. We were getting bogged down in the rule book. Your video is much more clearer and concise!
Most helpful of any video guides on how to play Catan that I've seen.
Glad to hear it! Thanks
Well narrated, carefully explained and modeling with the board as u go really helps! Thanks!!
Very nicely you explained the rules. Thanks for it.
Better than the other explanations available on TH-cam!
Fantastic explanation! Thank you.

2) in my turn play the dice...Can i play more than 2 or more development card at my turn ?
Thank you your explanation helped a lot 👍 i like the ladys Voice 😁

Great explanation. Last video I watched was too short, you guys did a great job covering everything. Thanks.
thanks very much. I think going over rules too quickly can leave you lost. We try to run a fine balance of concise but ensuring we cover everything. Hopefully we get it right more often than not hehe
Thank you! Please make more videos, I love your content. P.S: Ming is so cute :) Best wishes to all of you.

Great video! Helped so much
A good refresher from way back

Great video guys!

One of he best vids. Thank you.

What happens with the settlement after it's upgraded? Does you need to buy it once again, or you can just use it right away to connect some roads?
Good video

we loved your video teaching us to play Catan... we've bought the pirate and discoveries extension... will you be extending your instruction videos?
Glad you liked it! We would have loved to produce videos on the expansions but sadly time is not on our side. Sorry!
Very helpful, thank you.
You are most welcome
Has anyone ever told the guy on the left that he looks like Charles Boyle from Brooklyn-99?
It's uncanny.
they have not, Ming is amused :)
Great vid, thank You! BTW what version of board and pieces do you show? I bought a copy at Xmas for a cousin , pieces were plastic and terrible
Great video, what camera / mics are you using btw?
thanks dude. We are using a Blue Yeti as our microphone (highly rated by a lot of youtubers/podcasters). The main camera is a little old now but is a Panasonic HC-V380 and still holds up well :) We also use a Canon G7X for our down shots. Hope that is all of help!
Awesome!
thanks :D
Great vid:)
the savage thanks 😃
Love your accents
Hey, I have a query. If I play a robber on a resource which is only occupied by me then will I be able to play the knight on my next turn by way of development card ?
Also, the reason to do this is to get the biggest army card as soon as possible.
Players with 7 card have to give up 3 cards
That's a cool T-shirt, anybody know what it is?
Zach George Paul is a huge fan of dungeons and dragons. His T-shirt is a load of dice wielding weapons 😃
Nice video!
Anoop P A thanks!
Amazing thank you
Xheers :)

We are on facebook if you want to look us up (should be in the description below the video) or you can ask questions here and I will try and answer them as fast as i can! :D

2:17 I died from her tone and face! 😂😂😂
Not sure if the link is wrong but i just get Ming talking about dice :D
excellent video, thank you
Ricky James thanks dude! glad you found it useful.
Great video, but I have one question. Can you use Maritime Trade when it isn't your turn?
thanks! you can only use the maritime trade when it is your own turn. Effectively it is in place of trading with a human and only the active player is allowed to offer trades.

can i keep the robber at the same place if i rolled 7 again in my turn?
I'm afraid not. If you roll a 7, you must move the robber to a new hex.
Everyone skip the rulebook
Lucky man ! Your wife is super cute 👍
Man, the guy on the left looks like a poor-man’s Sam Rockwell.
Awesome
thanks dude!
When the dude on the right showed up I thought that it would finally start, but it never happened. Longest intro ever.
The very left British guy is the highlight of the video
Thanks :D
Can 2 people play this?
Robert Clark the base game is 3-4 players.
Skip the Rulebook Can you do a Ticket to Ride tutorial.?
Robert Clark we are hoping to do one soon 😃
In Risk we would each play 2 colors, not combined but 2 different players each, or have a neutral 3rd player placing at beginning or alternate playing 3rd player..
damn thats a lot of blinking
I'd let Omar settle on my Catan
how works the harbor tokens, you just place it but you didn't explain their use, the borders have printed harbors so don't make any sense to put it.

Skip the rulebook? No!!!
Maybe for those of us that enjoy reading the rules the channel could be "use the rulebook for reference"... :)
