It’s shown in a few flashbacks that he had the OCD before the car bomb but he was able to manage it on his own.

Just so you know, it’s fairly accurate in how debilitating OCD can be. I’m watching it through again, and it’s my husband’s first time seeing all of the show. He has a difficult time relating to my problems, and it’s caused us some issues, and this has been very illuminating for him he can see how I find Adrian relatable, and what it must look like to outsiders, and why I get to much anxiety around strangers. Lastly, I have a mix of diagnoses, and my journey has led me to believe Adrian probably also has ASD or something else that inhibits him socially. This was a great video, mate!

So i know that this comment is 9 months old but I still wanted to add my 2 cents. 😅 I have both ASD and OCD. They go hand in hand a lot, along with anxiety. Monk has OCD no question about it. But ASD I don't know about. He's picks up on social ques fine, he knows when people are sarcastic, and has no issues with eye contact. He also doesn't seem to have many problems with sensory overload. (For example, loud noises don't really bother him much more than a neurotypical person.) ASD comes in many forms but Monk just doesn't hit enough symptoms. That's just my personal opinion though.

It was amazing, I own all 8 seasons on DVD. I love the story line, and I feel as if I'm friends with monk despite never meeting the actor that played as him. The character is lovable, relatable, and feels like a friend.

The ONLY nitpick with the Trudy monk case is that I wish the guy that killed her was a main recurring character so that the audience has a connection to them before it's revealed that they killed her. instead it's just a new character that get's introduced in the last episode.

    • @rayvenkman2087

Then again. They probably didn’t intend to solve her murder nor actually do much with it and wanted their own Joe Chill but when it appears they’ll need a Final Problem finale, they had to put a name to an unseen face.

I have OCPD ( not same as OCD ) n I relate to monk. It was one of the only characters I grew up watching that I could relate to when it came to adventure, and somethings we have in common since OCPD is similar to OCD but they're two different things.

  • @bad-people6510

They're Tangentially related. There were Monk references in the last episode of Psych suggesting a shared continuity.

Finally a commentary show with natural pauses instead of all those crap out there on TH-cam lately. Very pleasant to listen to, great opinions, humor and good use of media. Loved it! Thanks!
Normally, I click immediately away when I hear cut&paste blabbering from some wannabee commentarist with only it's opinions and thinks it's what it thinks what it is. You keep it open as an open dialogue, very well done!

This is a great video. Regarding the lack of clues regarding Trudy's death, in an interview, the writer said he didn't think he would have to identify the reason or suspect so it appears that was a work in progress in the early years. However, let's face it, the lack of progress on her case mirrors many, many real life murders.

  • @slumbermeadow
    @slumbermeadow ปีที่แล้ว +4

I enjoyed the video but the only point in this video that I strongly disagree with is that you said there should have been more focus on Trudy's case. I whole heartedly disagree. Looking back on this show it seems like a miracle that monk didn't solve the case in the first season only to then have to have some new overarching plot introduced in season 2 and each subsequent new plot would have to have higher stakes than the last one until inevitably it would be revealed that Trudy's not actually dead she faked it (but it wouldn't be an actress like that one episode where they had a fake Trudy). Every other cop/detective show seems to be impatient with solving their main plot and then they have to scramble to find a new plot when they get too many seasons.
Trudy's involvement with the show is so much more than the case of how she died. It is how about how much Monk loved her. Trudy isn't just somebody who is mentioned in the pilot to establish a plot and then mentioned whenever they need to talk about the case. She is an ever present character of the show. Monk carries her with him constantly. The one crooked object in his entire house, in his life, is the coffee table because Trudy would put her feet up on it at an angle so that Monk could rest his head in her lap. MONK PUT HIS HEAD VOLUNTARILY IN ANOTHER HUMAN'S LAP AT THE END OF THE DAY TO FIND PEACE AND SHE IS GONE NOW I'M SCREAMING BECAUSE MY HEART BREAKS FOR HIM DAMN YOU CRAIG T NELSON! Trudy's eyes were donated for a surgery the day she died and Monk subconsciously recognized them when he randomly bumped into this woman on the street and because he didn't get a chance to talk to her couldn't sleep for days over it. He played the clarinet with Willie Nelson at her gravestone. And on and on it goes. Those moments in my opinion are far more valuable than breadcrumbs to a case that was never going to be solved until the last episode anyway.

This show doesn't just have who-dunnits and how-dunnits, but also why-dunnits, how-to-catch-ems and thrillers
Why-dunnits are when the episodes show you upfront who the killers are and how they killed the victims. The motives - however are unkown and the entire episodes are spent figuring out the motive and once that our heroes have figured it out they're able to arrest the bad guys.
How-to-catch-ems are episodes where the killer's identities are revealed upfront aswell as how and why they did it. However the puzzle is all about figuring out how to prove their guilt once those questions have been awnsered that's when they can make the arrests.
Thrillers are episodes where the audience already knows the who-dunnit, how-dunnit, why-dunnit, how-to-catch-em, but heroes don't and episodes are essentially us the audience hoping that our heroes are able to solve all these puzzles before the bad guys get away.

I'm not a difficult sell so of course I like many elements of Monk, however after viewing several episodes, I had a delayed reaction little bit irritated by the show's heavy handed cutesy-,ness (with music score and over the top situations) instead of letting it unfold organically.
