Hi Dan, I was fortunate to meet Francis Kurkdjian in 2016 myself and a group of others had lunch with him. He told me he came up with the formula in July- August 1994. He also allowed me to send him an email requesting for him to send me the original formula. I thought he wouldn't have honoured it, but he did. He sent me a 20 ml decant of the original 1995 formulation. He was a true gentleman. Classic scent, and it was a game changer back then.
I could only dream of how the older batches smelled and performed. This one has always been a staple of mine, everytime I get hit with that fresh and comforting mint/lavender/vanilla breeze I'm reminded why I love this so much. I do get the pretty intense cinnamony drydown which i can do without. Probably not good for hot summer days, but it's wearable pretty much any time and season
Well after watching this review I went out and purchased a bottle of le male 02 12/24 and fell in love with it straight away . I do salsa dancing and the women just love it 🥰 a real compliment getter not bad for a young 73 year old lol 😂
Hi Mr. Smelly, You have a 2000 batch, which is very very good; quite rare to find these days, and even more expensive. So long as the juice is a nice green tint, you have a vintage and original formula. Vintage formula goes from 1995 to 2009, after that its a different formula; still very good of course, but not what Kurkdjian had in mind when crafting Le Male. I wonder how perfumers feel when they are tasked with reformulating a their fragrances, It must be very hard to unwillingly change something in which you put so much time into, only to have it forever changed due to costs and sales. I actually just snagged a 75 ml 1998 batch (D batch) from a seller in Montreal, Canada. Thankfully he was able to ship it to me and i got it the next day (I live 2 hours away from the seller) and was so lucky to get it, the seller had a picture of the aftershave as his main image ( had to buy the aftershave, package deal) so people naturally thought he was asking 100$ for just the aftershave lol, in hindsight. The aftershave ended up being a 2014 batch; not too bad. But the 1998 Le Male batch is amazing, its getting so hard to find that the asking prices are getting more ridiculous each year lol. At the time, I identified as a quite a bit more masculine than the scent and image of this fragrance. In fact, I probably still do. One of my favourites! Still a decent performance even in current formulation I find. I ment to ask Dan have you tried or have in your collection Quorum by Antonio Puig! From 1981. Released same year as Kouros, but I prefer it personally and find it more wearable even though still old school! It's a beautiful tobacco and green fragrance, clean and 80s barbershop scent.
I have a vintage bottle not my 1998 one thats long gone but i have one with letter P which i bought in 2010 and i believe its made in 2008. I have 1/4 of it left and i today i have packed it up as a collectors item. It's so powerful compared to my new bottle i opened up today. That one is so weak.
I also find that Etat Libre d'Orange “ antiheroes” is in a similar direction but easier to wear Synthetic lavender based but really nice none the less clean laundry scent
Great review! Le Male is still a very good fragrance even if it's not stellar like it was in the 90's. Right now I think the Fraiche version (Popeye, Superman, Andre) is better compared to the current formulation of Le Male. If you want a more upscale, classier and less synthetic and not metrosexual smelling fragrance that's also designer and that has the Le Male vibe, try Lancome Hypnose Homme (the bottle is also one of the most spectacular in the game). I had an original botle of le male in 1996. It was a MONSTER performer. Back then, you could wear it on a night out clubbing. Thats when people could smoke in the pubs and clubs. Anyhoo, I could still smell the frag clearly, when i went to get in the shower the next night, when getting ready for work (about 20+ hours after applying the frag) Now, it is a waste of space. I get about 2 hours max out of it. Really poor performance. One of the worst performers in my collection
Absolute drek this one Dan. For me it’s a member of the holy trinity of shitdom. This shit trifecta includes Reflection man & Joop. All 3 induce a headache that couldn’t even be obtained by trepanning without pain relief. As for the gauche bottle ffs 😂 i’d be less embarrassed going to the footy in arseless chaps than having this on my shelf. NO JUST NO!!

Prada Luna Rossa Sport smells like a lighter version of Le Male. It's really nice smelling, definitely recommend it.

Lucky enough to buy a 2009 le male 125ml with 80ml left on ebay for £17 plus p&p, a absolute beast mode fragrance.
