  • Some more heavy haulage action now, again with Econofreight Scammell F300 PHM 'Evening Star' pulling the load. Another transformer move, this one from Hawker Siddeley's factory that used to be in Fulbourne Road, Walthamstow. We see it pull out of the factory, negotiate the corner of Fulbourne Road & Forest Road and heading off towards the North Circular Road. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

I was just going through my deceased parents photos and came across photos of Hawker Siddely in Fulbourne Rd, Walthamstow being demolished. We lived opposite in Forest Rd. Decided to Google for the correct spelling and came across your video. Memories from my past 🙂

Called 'Evening Star' of course because it was the last truck built by Scammell at Watford

I absolutely love this kind of footage, happy times.
Just like to remark how life had so much more patience back then and no mobile phones all pointing.
    Life was so much quieter.
What year is this? Around 1986 or 1987?
    V8 in the big truck?

Going by the car advertisement on the billboard and the cars in the streets, I put this down as early 1986.
Spotted a mile-o-meter on one of the trailer wheels.

It could well be, It was around 1986 onwards that i got collared to go and film lorries and fire engines. Originally it was just AECs but soon moved on to other things.....

Pity you weren't collared to cover non RM buses more often 😀.

F reg on plate of truck is 1988 if that’s any thing to go bye it’s surprising how many old vehicles were on the road back then though

After 89. The short wheel base traffic 110 had a bar light, G regs had those first. They changed to the discoverys 91 onwards due to an accident whereby the fuel tanks were found to be in a risky position

Did anyone film the transformer that was moved by A.L.E in 2001? I recall seeing it hauled by 3 of their trucks, crawling down the M25 taking up all 3 lanes.. Someone mentioned at the time it weighed in excess of 400t..?

Hehe Soi, lorries as well eh! You're as bad as me with hobbies lol. I love ww2 trucks too, vids of some my models of em on my channel if yer interested sir. . . And yet more bizarre coincidences! I drove along that Forest rd to get to the studio from Tonbridge, where she found me on the airwaves, broadcasting through the clowds!!!!! . . Mate from Walthamstow (he was attending the room next door to studio, without knowing it was the pirate station ha) also a truck nut, but i managed to get him into trains lol. . . As for that transformer load, nice, i watched Shellhaven construction vid moving 300t pressure drums etc up the shore, most interesting stuff indeed. Nice one for sharing, some mad memories for this spotter in it!! :D

My mate was the lorry and fire engine enthusiast but couldn't afford a vid cam back, then so here had me out filming them. I wasn't too impressed at the time but i am gratefull now.....He got me to film the Aldenham staff buses and the comings & goings at Chiswick Works as well happily....

I worked there and made these transformers, I was a winder, this is not a big one, as they did not remove the traffic lights, the bigger units were around 250tonnes and moved at night. ~Trooper

Thanks for you comments. My mate liked lorries and so went out and filmed these with my camera (although sometimes i went & filmed if not at work).... We did film some large ones, i recall one arriving at Tilbury that went to Charterhouse Street in the City, traffic lights were removed here & there for that move!

I can't remember the exact date, it was late 80s (after Forest Buses ceased to exist judging by the 158 in the background) or possibly around 1990....

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus that bus is on route 123 - i know walthamstow as i used to go to school in wood street, which is the road opposite where the big lorry is turning left out of (fulbourne road) and is heading up forest road to the lights of hale end road, over the bridge of the chingford to liverpool street line between wood street and higham park stations - it would have joined the A406 north circular road at waterworks corner emerging via the A104 woodford new road leading up from whipps cross corner
