- So you are looking for a gun and can't decide which to get. For many people it begins with the Glock 17. The 1st, fully accepted polymer gun, adopted by 70% of Law Enforcement in various calibers, Glock is maybe the largest gun maker in the world.
But can someone make a better Glock than Glock can?
Lets look at the MAC FP9, from Ace Firearms. A Poly 80 based clone that I have taken all over and shoot thousands of times. How does it stack up, head to head?

I have loaded and shot hundreds of ZESTY 40 and 9mm out of a p80.
40s&w- 180gr. fmj with a ten round average of 1330ish. fps.... other mods. With 9mm 115gr. fmj I am averaging 1508 fps.
No frame flex, no MIM shit!

I have 3 poly 80s, 19,17,34. And I have two standard Glocks 19 and 17. I love the poly 80s. Great weapons. I have had no issues with any of them.

I also was more than a little anti-glock but primarily because I didn't like the fact that it did not have a manual safety, and I still don't like the fact that those guns do not have a manual safety.
However, being the cheap guy that I am and one who loves to build guns as long as they're affordable.
Then the polymer 80 frames went on sale and were under $100.
When I finally realized how cheap & easy it was now to build one of these Polymer 80s, I decided to build Glock 17 clone and the Glock 21 clone.

First of all, I loved the show!! I just subscribed and hit the bell to get all notifications, and you know I gave you the thumbs up!! But last month I built a P80 Glock 26 and I took it out to the range for a little spin, and it ran flawlessly!! I was quite proud of myself!! And just this past Friday (12/16/2022) I ordered the P80 Glock 17 build, and I am absolutely pacing the floors praying that it all arrives this coming Friday (12/23/2022)..! 😂😂😂

I can’t find any info on why you shouldn’t shoot +p ammo in a P80. And I’m talking about the frame, the slide and barrel combos are endless. I can’t see why it would be any worse than running them in a factory frame. Thank you.
Thats because I was wrong. The frame can take it easily. My particular Poly 80 is set up for fast cycling, that statement is only true for mine.
You can always file down and smooth out the trigger guard

Glock magazines work with the Poly 80 frame. Period. I have tried them all.

Polymer 80s will run +P with zero issues. Maybe your set up wont, but a properly built p80 will and can handle +P ammunition.

The frame/slide can take the pounding with the right spring. It already has a glock barrel.

Some good news on the holster fit, if you like leather (and I do) I have built a Poly80 15 and 17 and both ride inside a Glaco LEATHER paddle holster, perfect! I guess the give of the leather as opposed to kydex, is the trick. Works great for me as I love Galco leather holsters and I have been running them for over 30 years! On ammo, I run hollow points for personal defense and velocity means everything when it comes to expansion of HP ammo. For that reason I run 124 gr in my 17 and 115 gr in my 15. But, to each their own.
Leather always manages to work, doesn't it. Sometimes the old way is the best way.

P80 is a fine although getting scarce alternative to Glock.
If you want to get technical, the striker fire became popular with the Luger.

My Poly build went with me to Tactical Response and functioned flawlessly.
There are reasons why, and those reason can be avoided if proper attention is applied to why those malfunctions happen. Marine Gun Builder on YT has a whole series on how to complete a P80 that will have zero malfunctions.
P80 pf940sc Glock 26 fits kydex Glock 19 holsters, and pf940c Glock 19 and cl Glock 19 long slides fit kydex Glock 21 holsters very well.

I personally like the P80 production pistols better than the gen 3 Glocks. After comparing them at the gun shop & test firing both I opted for the P80 PFS9. Mainly because the P80 comes stock with all the frame upgrades you could ever want for your pistol. Plus the complete P80 production pistol was $100 cheaper than the Gen 3 Glock out the door & I got four P80 brand G17 magazines with it. The black slide with the FDE frame is BEAUTIFUL!!! 😆

JoeBobOutfitters was where I ended up buying the P80 from a few days after trying them out at Vance Outdoors gun range. Once I fully committed to buying the P80 I searched around online & JoeBobOutfitters happen to have the deal I was looking for at the time.
I'm not a huge fan of the p80 magazines I've had issues with one of mine and I stopped using them all together. Magpul and OEM Glock are what I use. Magpul makes great magazines for everything.
Serious question...is the p80 a Glock ? My lil brother nags me saying I don't actually have a Glock. I told him that it's basically a suped up Glock.

I've built three of these (Glock 19 p80s) and the thing that I like about the p80s is not only the grip angle but also the ability for customization (triggers, slides, sights, etc). If you build these with quality in mind when you build them they can be EXCELLENT shooters! As far as the range tests...they run as good a any based priced Glock. My zen tech trigger and strike industries trigger shoe is amazing.

Did you have to do much to get your Pf940c ‘s to run reliably ? I’ve been having failure to eject issues with mine . 3 sets of front rails , none will run without extensive rail fitting (sanding /polishing ) how about your experience ?
@@iamvalerian7710 the ejection issue is more of glocks fault. The gen 3 ejector is trash. Get a gen4 and swap the ejector. Also change the extractor. Apex tactical makes a better engineered one.
@@iamvalerian7710 You need to do a few things if you have not done them. Measure the front and rear rails height to the frame to make sure that all 4 rails are exactly the same height. Make sure your slide spring is not rubbing anything at all in the channel. Takes the spring out of the slide and put it in the frame to see if the sides are rubbing the spring. Check the rear tab for rubbing the frame. Odds are something is rubbing it. I did all of that and I went from a 18lb spring to a 15 and now it runs as good as any gun on the market. I oiled the sh## out of it too. Also see MarineGunbuilders videos .
I have built 6 Polymer 80 pistols. 17,two 19's,22,21&20.
I run +P in my 9mm pistols ( well over 1500 through each) with zero issues in durability.
Full house 200 gr IPSC major loads in the 21( around 3000+ sofar) with zero issues, and in the 22 I run Speer LEO 165 ammo.
I'm a certified Glock Armorer, and have never owned a Glock due to absolutely hating the grip angle. The better angle on the P80 series is why I chose to start building the kits.
I love my 1911's ( have 7of them) and my EDC switches back and forth between my 1911 Commander, and a full size S&W M&P9.
Practice is key to running any handgun well.

Mainly because both Steve Fisher and Super Dave harrington recommend that as a self defense load. So I have adopted it myself. I have always been a velocity kind of guy, but they changed my mind. I probably ran close to 300 rounds in my carry ammo which is +p Target ammo I run 124 of whatever Steelcase brass case of a matter what it is maybe if you have one of the first gen p80s I heard that they have plastic rear rails? I've never seen one

Seems like maybe you want to get a better spring that can handle any type of load that you put in your pistol it seems like what people do if they try to lighten up there pistol loads for competitions but if you're not training with real stuff what's the point
@@stonerzz1 At the time, when it was built for me, It was going to Tactical Response for Fighting Pistol. I did not actually request for it to sprung that way. Since then, I have pretty much adopted a 147 grain sub sonic load as mt carry ammo. Which it handles just fine. Going forward I will probably make the request for a more versatile setup, but on this gun, so far not a single hiccup.

Dont know what your talking about that polymer80s cant run +p loads. Mine runs all ammo perfectly. I did a super awesome full zev build. With full zev slide and barrel, zev sights, zev fulcrum fully adjustable trigger, zev mag release but swapped it for a hyve one. I have a tungsten guide rod and a rmr on it. My edc zev polymer80 build is absolutely amazing and I plan on doing a video on comparison vs the zev 0z9c which is why I built the zev polymer80

It is better than a stock Glock in a number of ways. That one was built as a manufactured pistol at Ace Firearms in Easley SC.

I have a g 19 clone polymer 80 and I love mine to haven’t had a single malfunction on mine either but I have seen videos and read lots of things about people having problems i wonder if it’s really that hard to drill holes or is it just parts not lining up just right bc of tolerances?
Lot of reasons in all that, i suppose. I let engineers build mine for me. Problem solved.

Too easy. Fact of the matter is......I was wrong. this particular gun has a recoil spring that might make Plus P a little bit thumpy, but the gun frame can handle Plus P all day long.
Roger needs to start using the Glock adjustable rear sight ($24.00), Instead of the stupid non-adjustable rear sight, they shouldn't even use those anymore! nice gun overall You need to add the better Glock adjustable rear sight on yr Gen4!!! I mostly run NATO 124gr FMJ in my Glock 17 gen 4 , I like the army 4.5lbs trigger pull in my G17 Great Gun
I have an adjustable sight to go on the Poly80 and I am going to throw an optic on the G17.
Another great change p80 did was put a picatiny rail and not that idiotic glock rail. This means that you can use just about any light or laser without added costs of special mounts.

BOTH have strengths and weaknesses.... For many of us the attraction is customization possibilities and
the very valuable learning experience. After you assemble a Polymer80 your knowledge of the Glock
platform will greatly increase.

The poly can run whatever. It's the extractor, its gen 3 I can see it in the video. Get a after market extraction.
According to the builder of the gun, it is the spring he used. Which would be even easier to replace. But you are 100% correct about the frame. It will handle whatever.
@@BillFrady that gen 3 OEM extractor is an issue also. It's faulty. They all were. It's fixable and its not that hard.
Just drop on any gen 3 glock p80 or not a gen 4 ejector and you will have a flawleds gun
Double under cut trigger guard, scalloped mag release, Apex like flat trigger/Gen5 feel, slightly flared mag well, front side serrations, nicely textured grip...nitride parts/barrel, steel pins, extended slide takedown lever....everything you add usually do to a Glock, u get. If you can build it...the kits sold as disassembled purchase but still FFL required...some stores like where I acquired mine was $370! Not going to beat it period....disagree w the extended slide stop as they induce slide stoppages with my technique and grip but yes a better Glock.
I do have to be mindful of the extended stop when I grip it. Thanx for your input.

@@BillFrady I ordered 2 of them. They have more in the works. One will be a single stage and be a lot like a 1911 feel to it. I cant wait for that one Johnny Glock has a video that he mods one.
Be careful; aftermarket slide plates have been known to cause full auto in isolated incidents, as well as trigger connector bar angle. Who would have guessed a plate could cause full auto? Get a clear slide plate and check striker lug to cruciform kick-up contact, and check for at least 2/3 rds contact. Test your cruciform for a drop test. Some aftermarket trigger shoes and trigger bars will fail in one gun, but not in another of the same make and model. If you don't want to get a clear plate, put a mag in and gently slam each side of the pistol on carpet to see if you can get the striker to fire.
Of course I am writing this to anyone who reads it, not necessarily the author of this video.
Decent advice. I myself am nowhere near qualified to assemble one of these, which is why my sponsor did it. Took 2 to Tactical Response for Fighting Pistol. They were thrown, dropped, and shot constantly for 2 days without a hiccup. All due to the care taken in the build.

Glocks have 3 safeties, that’s why they don’t go bang like a sig when they shouldn’t. Trigger safety, firing pin safety, drop safety.

@@BillFrady No it's a standard fit. It has a retention screw I had to loosen. I also have one for a p80 g26 that works flawlessly. They are both Blackhawk.
I have found that the Polymer 80 "Glocks" cost more than actual Glocks.
Depends. If you are doing it yourself and you know what you are doing, you can come in a little cheaper. but the Polymer 80 frame has all the custom touches, And the slide, barrel, parts kit, trigger etc can be as inexpensive or custom as you like. You can drive that price into the sky.
I use polymer 80 because I can build a much better optic cut 17 long slide for the same price as a factory 34 without the giant gap in the cut, and still have plenty of room left to co-witness. Having a larger locking block is more important to me than the cost of the frame in all honesty, and the angle of the grip helps when I present the pistol.
polymer 80s have no issue with plus P but ive heard they cant handle it but never had an issue
This was me misspeaking. The spring is this gun was originally one that would not handle plus P
I've been shooting since about the 90s when I was like 10-15 years old. Maybe earlier. Only this year I bought my first Glock, and man... I HATE IT. Ergonomics suck, grip feels like a crooked 2x4, muzzle points at the sky when I present. But worse than anything. The top ledge above trigger pushes out against my finger at the middle knuckle. Making it hard to get to the power crease of my index finger on the trigger. IF I DO, then my finger also presses hard against the bottom of the trigger guard on the other side of the trigger. So every shot twists my index finger sideways (against the knuckle) with recoil. After a box of ammo my hand and finger are sore for a week. I had to Dremel out the inside of the trigger guard to be wider and taper off (like Walther) and taper in the top ledge so I could just get my finger to sit on the trigger in a way that wasn't literally painful when I shot it (don't forget about glock knuckle either!). Before Dremeling my Glock it felt so horribly bad compared to my Walthers, H&Ks, M&Ps, Springfields, and others. It could just be because it's a Glock 40 (10mm) and the grip is so big. But why is the trigger guard so small and at such an off angle? I've got big XL hands, So why does the rear of the grip hump out and press into the wrong part of my palm? It presses into the bottom of my palm, making it harder to grip with the bottom two fingers. So weird, and it must be awful for people with smaller hands. It makes it feel uncomfortable. Because instead of filling your palm and making you feel like you have a tighter grip with the main hand. It forces you to almost require a support hand to have a defensive grip on the gun without giant hands(if someone tried to take it from you). I just don't like my Glock at all, and I bought the thing so I definitely didn't want it to be this way. But It seems like Glock made the polymer game popular. Then literally everyone else came out with better designs. But they do run nice and reliably, I guess. Not that everyone else making modern polymer pistols can't also say that these days. The real question for me is, will a P80 frame be worth the trouble at this point? Because for a G40 gen 4, apparently a lot has to be switched out to gen 3 parts. OR something like that. Just seems like a lot of work and even more money. I just can't tell if going through the trouble is worth it now that I've already modified my Glock grip and trigger guard to be something I can tolerate and almost enjoy now. I mean I'm not really sure what issues I have with Glock would be fixed with a P80 frame either? Would be nice if they made a Gen 4 compatible frame. But that seems pretty unlikely at this point.
Trigger guard is somewhat bigger and grip angle is straighter. I too have trouble with that angle. Poly 80 frame is a less expensive route to a custom gun feel.
@@BillFrady Thanks for the reply. I've been looking into it a bit more and I think I just need a gen 3 guide rod and spring. I think they might make an adapter plate to fit a gen 3 rod on a gen 4 slide. So this is looking like a possible option for me, maybe. Going to keep looking and see what I can find out. As long as I don't need a new slide. Poly 80 might be a possible upgrade for me. Thanks again for the reply.

@@BillFrady yeah I didn't end up getting it just because of the laws , I mean it's not illegal but if by any chance I have to use it to defend myself it will be a big issue having a ghost gun. It's a beautiful build but I rather just keep it legit and with a serial number on it just in case. I work in private security , in house to be exact. I might pickup a glock to carry instead of my sig and just use the sig for work
Give me the g17, you know it'll run without tinkering with it.

I never understood why people say Glocks are not as accurate as other guns. I shoot my G17 just as well as any other gun, the trigger is well a Glock trigger but it’s definitely manageable.
I prefer singla action triggers...but thats my problem. I have found a way to come to peace with the Glock trigger.
A little sandpaper and the P80 will fit a G19 holster no prob.

I shot +p+ 115 grain Hollow point 9mm by federal for my p80 glock 19 it didn't blow up except when I shot reloaded ammo

both are equally reliable. Glock is famous for their design, not their branding. just like the ar-15. armalite engineered an amazing firearm that is being cloned my many different manufactures today.

I’ve put the P80PSF9 on layaway. I’ve heard some say they are great guns and others say they are junk. I’m hoping I’m not wasting my money. It’s primarily going to be used for home defense and a range gun. I’m open to conversation about the P80. Are they reliable? Are they worth the money? I’ve watched the video but again I’ve heard other say they are junk. Please comment!!!
I still run mine. Took them to Tactical Response class and hammered them for 2 days. As good as any polymer gun out there if you are patient and take your time in the build, or if like me, yours are assembled and serialized by a competent builder.
The on I have put on layaway is a complete build. Like I said my main worry is reliability. Thanks for the input!!

@@BillFrady I’m assuming P80 did. When I went to the store they told me that it was a complete build from the manufacturer. They have sold a ton of them according to them. Myself and 2 others guys were there to purchase the complete build. So far I really like it. I’m going to try and take it to the range within the next two weeks to see how it functions. Also the trigger is fantastic!!

What I believe why people think is automatic gun is because how fast somebody can shoot but they don’t understand how a gun shots faster as you can pull your fingers to shoot because of a bullets into the chamber in the first place.
