The old school bag gloves taught me proper technique for making a solid fist which forced proper positioning of my wrist. These types of gloves helped me avoid wrist injuries.

I WANT TO CLARIFY OLD SCHOOL BOXERS DID IN FACT WEAR HAND WRAPS UNDERNEATH THEIR ''MITTS'', ONLY UNTILL 1980S DID THEY STOP USING ''MITTS'' (BEACUSE OF MARKETING BY EVERLAST) IN FAVOUR OF REGULAR GLOVES WITCH UP UNTILL THEN WERE USED ONLY IN SPARRING/COMPETITIONS/

Thanks for the information, I personally wrap my hands with them because the gloves slip a little and tear my skin up. Wraps prevent this.

I love the feel from the old style bag gloves. What's a good soft bag to use with that? I also kick head level and groin level barefoot, so I'm looking for a length in between a short 42" bag (no metal bottom ring!) and a muay thai length bag.

I like these for working on combination speed work and for proper form, hand positioning. But, I can not go with these full power, wrapless, on a full sized heavy bag as my hands come out shredded and bloody. A lighter glove with a lighter bag like a wrecwrap less, is ok.

I have a quick question, i understand the bag glove is meant to be more bareknuckle for hitting the bag. Do you think for other combat sports itd be more optimsl to get 4oz mma gloves( nowraps) vs the bag gloves( no wraps)?

Also, additional benefits include strengthening your hands and making them more durable. You also have to hit the hardest bag you can tolerate with those gloves. Proper fist, proper wrist positioning, micro brakes in the bones of your hand, they do it all. Big bag gloves only make your hands weaker(from personal experience) I use nothing else but small bag mitts or gloves for all workouts, except for sparing.

where is your thumb positioned when you make a fist in them? Does it stay extended on the side or can you flex it over your other fingers like you'd do in bareknuckle

    Hey Carlo
I can't say this video is bad advice as I personally have no idea if training without wraps using bag mitts will lead to possible injury.
I can say in my own experience of having grown up in the 60's and 70's and trained in a Gym founded and run by an IBOF trainer who started with Ray Arcel at Stillmans that the idea that fighters who used bag mitts didnt wrap has no historical accuracy that I can find or personally saw in decades of training. The only thing in print is Jack Dempseys ghost written autobiography which encourages kids to go out and get Garden gloves. Garden gloves have fingers which is why you never see them on any Boxer in any of the historical film clips we have.
Everlast produced the first bag mitt in 1920 and its design fundamentaly didnt change through the 70's .
Anyway.....I just wanted throw that in there as I have spent decades training on these with no injury but have always wrapped.
