      @@victoriagillerlain You were insanely helpful! Out of curiosity, was the dorm you were showing a traditional double?

    • @victoriagillerlain
      @victoriagillerlain  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@annahuff7277 That dorm was considered a "premium" double. The difference between a regular double and a premium double is simply the building the double is in. The premium ones are always nicer just because they are more modern, not that they have more space and I just lucked out with this one :)

    Just curious, how did you accidentally bring the fan? My sis going to college and I just wanna make sure she's all set and doesn't accidentally bring her fan too.

    • @victoriagillerlain

      When I say I accidentally brought a fan, I mean I accidentally brought two fans because one I totally forgot about and ended up with two haha (packing the car and last minute chaos can do that). But fans are super useful in a college dorm for a dozen reasons and I highly recommend having one!

    hi! I was just wondering, in your opinion, how is Jackson hall in president's park. I wanted a suite but there were none available, I'm thinking of trying to swap rooms

    • @victoriagillerlain
      @victoriagillerlain  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      adr vict pretty standard traditional dorms and just like any other traditional style dorm in the park. Honestly almost all of the freshmen designated dorms are all the same so Jackson vs. other presidents park traditional dorms will be the same. All the traitional and suite style freshmen dorms are just so-so regardless of the type just because they are all old and dated with their quirks. I honestly don’t think it’d be worth going the hassle of switching as it’s really up to you how you want your experience to go and be but it’s up to you. Good luck! Feel free to message me on Instagram or drop me another comment if you have any other questions or need any advice ! :)

    Hey! Do you by any chance know if Lincoln hall is good or in good condition because I heard that Taylor hall was one of the renovated dorms in President’s park

    • @victoriagillerlain
      @victoriagillerlain  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Thanks for your question and I’m happy to help. So here’s the deal: Lincoln hall is so-so, just like most halls in Presidents park and the Commons. It’s pretty standard, a tad bit dated, traditional dorming. Laundry will stink because there is only one or two sets of machines per floor. Taylor hall actually isn’t a renovated building, it’s actually the newest housing addition to GMU, which is why it’s so nice. However, don’t feel bad if you don’t have a room in Taylor because although it’s nice, it’s still in presidents park and far away from the center of campus. Wherever you dorm, I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic housing experience. And if you don’t, that’s ok too, it happens to a lot of people, including me. If you need any advice or have anymore questions please feel free to message me on Instagram @victoria_gillerlain or drop me another comment!

    Hey, I just came across your vid and had some questions. What do you think about Truman Hall in Presidents? I saw in a mother comment you said that laundry will stink you mean after it's cleaned or just the laundry room? Do the other halls except for Taylor actually have working AC? I heard that they don't have AC or heating during winter, and I'm staying in a single traditional room, but I was still wondering since I couldn't visit campus and there's nobody I can contact about this

    • @victoriagillerlain
      @victoriagillerlain  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! When I say the laundry will stink, I do not literally mean stink, my bad for the confusion haha. What I mean by that is laundry will potentially be difficult in that building and other traditional-style buildings due to the sheer small amount of washers and dryer sets per-floor, which is usually about 1-2 sets depending on the floor/building. I say this is a difficult situation because of the pure amount of residents living on the floor and everyone needs to use the washer and dryer relatively often. But you will still definitely be able to do your laundry there, it just may not always be at the most convenient time.
      Talking AC and heating, all of the buildings have it. That said, the heating and cooling systems are not exactly great in every building. None of them in the traditional style dorms, as far as I am aware of, are modernized and are thus not that efficient in terms of heating/cooling a room. You are not going to freeze or anything but it might not be exactly at a temperature you'd prefer. How it works in traditional style buildings is that in the warm months, AC will be available and in the cool months, heating will be available and they do not cross over, meaning in the summer you won't have heating available and vice versa. Housing monitors the weather to determine when to make those switches and will not just do it at an arbitrary time.
      You can always try emailing or calling GMU housing and speaking to someone who works in the housing office. Just google "GMU Housing email" or phone, whichever you are more comfortable with. Some reps are helpful, some not at much, but if you get the right person they will try to help you out and answer whatever questions you have! You can also DM me if you have any other questions on my Instagram (@victoria_gillerlain) or twitter (VictoriaZyndale) since I am more active there and it is a bit easier to reply haha. Let me know if you have any other questions!
