Can you please create more videos in Dutch? I would love if you made some videos on teaching Dutch. I'm trying to learn and im moving to Rotterdam next year. I think you would be good in teaching the language.
Going to Shakespeare and co and meeting Sylvia the owner 4 years ago, was the best day in my life so far. Edit: if you can't visit (or just want to relive the experience) read ' A History of the Rag and Bone Shop of the Heart' it's a non fic about the store, the OG owner (Sylvia's dad), the people who used to visit and sleep in the store, when Allen Ginsberg used to do readings... It's purely magical ✨
I'm French and I know these bookshops ; they are my absolute favourites in Paris ! ♥️📚 It feels kinda strange thinking that I could've met you there I feel so proud and excited when Europeans / Americans visits France (especially Paris) eat our most famous pastries etc... I'm just like : "I know all that !" I hope you liked the city Leo 🇲🇫🥐
I'm so happy you enjoyed The Abbey Bookshop! When I saw you were in Paris I just HAD to recommend it to you! A friend of mine was there as well and she loved it too. The place is just too gorgeous 😍😍😍😍
I spent two weeks in Paris a couple summers ago because of a class I was taking, and I went to the Abbey Bookshop! I loved that place. I wish I could go back.
I love seeing the Abbey Bookshop in here! I went to Paris by myself a few years ago and visited both of these (I’m American) - I of course see people gush about Shakespeare & Co all over but rarely see anyone talking about the Abbey Bookshop. It had a very different feel compared to Shakespeare & Co but I loved them both! Makes me want to go back 💖
Thanks for recommending the first one ! As someone studying in Paris, I love going to bookshops. I usually buy in English because it's a bit less expensive. I had no idea the first one existed but I might go very soon ! Generally I go mostly in the 1st arrondissement because it's where my university is (fun fact if you didn't know, but there is a university in the Louvre). If you want to go back to Paris, I can recommend you Galignani. It's one of the oldest, of not the eldest, bookshops in Europe. You can found a lot of books and I was really surprised because they have plenty of fantasy and science-fi books. I found the place sooooo pretty. I also like to go to Smith & Son, in the same stree (rue de Rivoli). In the shop there is also a small grocery shop (as someone who lived in Australia and loves to go to England, I really miss some things that are hard to find in France) and a café.
Lovely video. I've been to Shakespeare & Co. Bliss. There's something glorious about that kind of bookshop. The ones that are like labyrinths and mix new and old books and where it feels like when you're gone the books spill out and mingle before tucking themselves all back onto the shelves before they open. I bought a couple of books there the last time I visited. Plus cat for the bonus points.
I am almost finished with The Yellow Wallpaper and selected writings. I absolutely love this collection, and partway through my edition there are extracts from her autobiography. I'm glad you enjoyed! And it is worth looking into her other stuff.
Aw those are just gorgeous!! I would love to go to Paris and go to those book shops. It seems very calm and I need that in my life haha. (I also want to read the yellow wallpaper now.. I had never heard of it until you got it in the vid) Luv ur vids!!
What a coincidence, I was actually in the Shakespeare and Company today, at the day you posted your vlog ! Unfortunately, I hadn't got a chance to even see the cat.
The Book Leo, I just love your videos, you bring me joy and smiles in all you do, from my heart, I wish you the best of things in life. Keep your lovely videos coming. :)
Fun video. I didn't know about Abbey Bookstore. Thanks. I'm going to presume you already have a copy of Leigh Bardugo's King of Scars since you didn't buy it. Right now I'm reading Crooked Kingdom and it's so good that I cannot wait for the electricity to return. I'm in Louisiana and the electricity is out because of Hurricane Ida. Internet works on both phone and this Tablet, but no electricity. Weird. I'm glad you had a great time in Paris.
I really enjoyed this video! It bought back memories of my trip to Paris. Out of the two book stores you visited, I only visited Shakespeare and Co. It is one of the best book stores that I have visited. I hope I'll get a chance to visit it again sometime!
Shakespeare and Co is also one of my favourite bookstores, and the first place I bought English literature from (I am French so this is one of the first English bookstores I visited)!! Definitely a huge inspiration for my imaginary (future) bookstore/cafe/record store
Ive been in the Shakespeare and Company bookshop a few times. really enjoy going there. There is a book callled Books, Baguettes and Bedbugs by Jeremy Mercer based on his time staying at the Shakespeare and Co bookshop which is a good read. I read The Yellow Wallpaper for my American Studies degree and did an essay on it. Really good novella.
Hey new subscriber here! I found your channel randomly! I literally love the aesthetic thumbnail and videos 🤧😭. I wish you all the best, stay safe and GOOD LUCK! 💗🦋
I went to Shakespeare and Co. a couple of years ago when my friends and I spent 9 hours in Paris while on an Interrail trip. It is definitely the most beautiful bookshop I have ever visited, and I am really looking forward to going back whenever I visit Paris in the future
I can always count on you for the ARTSY SHOTS. And omg that bookshop with the floor to ceiling n narrow passage looks amazing but would be overwhelming for me. Was it organised in any way?
Read the Yellow Wallpaper after one of my favourite singers (Charlotte Wessels) recommended it and it was a good kind of confusing. Definitely gave an eerie vibe and really got into it despite it being so short
Oh. my. GOD !! i also went to paris last week with my best friend!! and we also found the best bookshop, shakespeare & company, with cat Aggie and all. i got to play the piano a bit for the readers upstairs :) we also agreed that it is the perfect bookshop, and we only found it by accident because we saw the Alice quotes on the outside of the café :D
For a truly magical insight into the early days of Sylvia Beach's Shakespeare and Co. bookshop there is no better introduction than Ernest Hemingway's memoir " A Moveable Feast" which recounts his time as a struggling young writer in Paris as well as his encounters with the likes of Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, James Joyce et al.
I visited Shakespeare and Co when I was in Paris a couple of years ago and it instantly became my favorite bookshop in the whole world! Maybe just competing with Blackwell's in Oxford 💛
shakespeare and Company is my favorite bookshop and i even had the opportunity to do an internship there! Sylvia Whitman is the loveliest person! 😊and omg i mean, the place!
I secretly wished that I would meet you when I was the same time in Paris as you did 😁 And of course I was in the Shakespeare and Company and I loooove it! This is the most beautiful bookstore I’ve ever seen! I was curious what you would buy because I was sure that you would go there 🤗
I like the The Abbey Bookshop because it's pretty, but their books are so expensive that I never want to go there... I really often go to Shakespeare and co because of the atmosphere, but I never end up buying anything from them because they sell their books slightly more than the actual price ... honestly my go-to for books in English is Gibert, just across the street from the Sorbonne. It may not be as pretty as these two bookshops, but it has a great selection and the books are sold to their actual prices ! Loved the video tho :)
They're more or less similar to well funded American ones, only difference that in my country 85% of the books are in Dutch or are translated to Dutch.
I've been to Shakespeare & Co, and a few larger bookstores in Paris with English version sections, but I didn't know about Abbey Bookstore. And having just googled and discovered articles about the "20 best English bookstores in Paris", I guess I'll just have to find a way to visit again. ;) But until then, I'm lucky to live only a few hours away from Powell's Books in Portland, Oregon.
The bookshops were super cool. I’m so glad you found the video so we can go along with you and it seems that you had a really nice time. Do you live near France?
Thank you for playing the music softly! Some videos I watch I have to mute when the talking stops and it cuts to music bc its 2x louder than the audio.
yes this was all filmed on my phone so the quality is not the best but i wasn't going to take my expensive camera in my backpack to paris lol
Oh okay, still enjoyable ❤️❤️🌻
It’s okay, don’t worry about it. It’s about content not the camera quality. :)
Ah, makes sense.
Can you please create more videos in Dutch? I would love if you made some videos on teaching Dutch. I'm trying to learn and im moving to Rotterdam next year. I think you would be good in teaching the language.
Valid lol
If you ever find yourself in Wales/the UK, you would love Hay-on-Wye, the world’s first book town!
Thanks ❤ I will keep that in mind. I really want to visit the UK/Wales

did you meet the store's cat? xD i met him
@@ahappyfrenchtoast2669 yesss! Couldn't pet him tho because he was napping 😅
#rajeevbookdepot
everything in this video feels so magical:) i’m such a sucker for anything related to paris or books.
I just fell in love. Ack!! The cozy atmosphere vibes in those bookstores in Paris...ooh. dream come true 💕💕💕 I want to go!🥰
Shakespeare and Company is on my bucket list of bookstores to visit.
I'm French and I know these bookshops ; they are my absolute favourites in Paris ! ♥️📚 It feels kinda strange thinking that I could've met you there

Bonjour! Besides Paris, where are the best bookstores? Merci beaucoup.
This video made my skin better and added 5 years to my life.
Wooow!
That phrase on the stairs was sooooo good
The cosy vibe of this video was just what I needed 😌
I'm so happy you enjoyed The Abbey Bookshop! When I saw you were in Paris I just HAD to recommend it to you! A friend of mine was there as well and she loved it too. The place is just too gorgeous 😍😍😍😍

Do most French bookshops have an English section? Or are all the books in French?
So cool that you filmed this video, it funny to see you in some of my favorite bookshops 🥰
Lovely video. I've been to Shakespeare & Co. Bliss. There's something glorious about that kind of bookshop. This was so cool! I'm glad you had fun!
"Eat, Sleep, Read" - sign in my favourite Dublin bookshop. Sounds like a plan to me!
The cat in the bookstore yayyyyyyyy!!! If only there was a store like that near me.
Loved this so much.. I also think the quality is good.. Paris is so amazing.. The look alone.. Love all your video's... You are awesome.
I am almost finished with The Yellow Wallpaper and selected writings. I absolutely love this collection, and partway through my edition there are extracts from her autobiography. I'm glad you enjoyed! And it is worth looking into her other stuff.

Love your vids... Especially the one where you tell us it's ok to read less books. I really needed that.
I go to Shakespeare and Co at least one a week, I just love reading book and playing piano upstairs 🥰
Love the opening 'frites' devouring shot! LOL
Girl this is like a MOVIE
Wow, those bookstores are dreamy
girl- this is one of my dreams! I hope you had fun on your trip!!
This was fascinating! Thanks for taking the time to do the video. From a very envious collector of Frankenstein!
I just moved away from Paris after a uear abroad and I miss it so much :(( all the pretty book shops and the atmosphere there really stole my heart
Also one time I went to the Abbey bookshop and the owner was brewing coffee outside and gave it to the customers for free.
aghhhh i just read the yellow wallpaper, and i've got to say its the first book ever that actually freaked me out a bit! :)
In the new year I want to try learning French. Paris is my dream city to visit someday! Great video!

i was also in shakespeare and co last week and almost bought normal people (after reading it in dutch as well), but ended up buying one last stop :)
I'm going to Paris in September so I am definitely going to check this out!
Read the Yellow Wallpaper after one of my favourite singers (Charlotte Wessels) recommended it and it was a good kind of confusing. Definitely gave an eerie vibe and really got into it despite it being so short

The random 'biography' sign on the ceiling: "Am I a joke to you?"
Thank you for the tour of Shakespeare & Co!

Lovely ❤️ I read the yellow wallpaper last week ; it was enjoyable but the ending wasn’t satisfactory!
