Israel has banned the United Nations Chief Antonio Guterres from entering the country. It has accused Guterres of failing to condemn Iran's missile attack. “Today, I have declared UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres persona non grata in Israel and banned him from entering the country. Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran’s heinous attack on Israel, as almost every country in the world has done, does not deserve to step foot on Israeli soil,” Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz said. Iran launched a barrage of missiles on Israel on October 1 in response to the killings of key leaders including Iran's Revolutionary Guards Commander Abbas Nilforoushan. After the strikes, Guterres criticised the broadening conflict in West Asia and called for a ceasefire. He wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, "I condemn the broadening of the Middle East conflict with escalation after escalation. This must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire." A number of global leaders have voiced their concerns about the volatile situation in the region. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has called for a virtual meeting of the G7 leaders to discuss the mounting crisis which has gripped West Asia.
