My favorite thing about this game is that it makes "earning experience" very literal. Literally the only difference between your character at the end and at the beginning is knowledge. All the tools you'll ever have, are given to you at the start. Its just a matter of using them in clever ways in bizarre situations. 🙃🙃
I like that every planet in this solar system is based around a specific common fear, like the ocean (giant's deep), heights (brittle hollow), buried alive (ember twin), running out of time (ash twin), the unknown (dark bramble), and change/loss/leaving home (timber hearth). I'm not sure it was intentional, but it's interesting
The initial ideas, when Alex Beachum was just building the planets for the school project, did not really contain a narrative structure. I’m sure at some point, the writing team, including Alex and Kelsey, sat down to figure out how best to make players off-balance.
Okay the double lift at 1:30:50 is one of the wildest things I've seen in hundreds of hours of watching let's plays of this game!
Don't worry about being confused, that's the point of playing outerwilds. Every player's journey is unique and that's what makes this game great and beautiful. Anyone else thats played has a history with chasing an obscure concept trying to make something much more difficult than it had to be, I'm no different. Trust in the log/journal, it'll help in most scenarios unlocking the knowledge to move forward. Looking forward to watching your journey along with the other past players here that watch for the same reason.
::)
That was a very good summary at the beginning! I think you were certainly doing well with connecting the puzzle pieces at this point, considering how well you can explain things as you play.
Really excited to watch the rest of the playthrough! ::)
3:15:06 man i grew up on burnt marshmallows as a kid its so nostalgic
Love Gabbo just floating chillin as your bounce off your head
Consider Prey (2017) if you like "space games in general". More of a regular shooter game with quest markers and skill trees where you're trying to figure out what's going on, but pretty much everything has alternative options to just go in guns blazing. Has tense moments, but I wouldn't call it a horror game. Fairly long compared to Outer Wilds of course, but nothing close to the monster role playing games. Story is great, even if not told in the unique Outer Wilds style (make your own objectives), but the game have other unique approaches to it. Pretty sure you could handle it on at least hard difficulty, possibly with all hardcore options enabled.
Getting to the Sunless City first try is impressive.
"What's even stranger". 🤯
Lets gooooo!!!
I Wish her chat would have told her to turn on the "Freeze Time while Talking" option at the beginning of the game so she wouldn't have lost this great dialogue from Gabbro(49:23 - 49:42). The "missed dialogue" doesn't even show up in the Gabbro's Ship Log entries either(58:36 - 58:41) 🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
dang i wish i knew about that too :( i was bummed to miss the dialogue
1:34:50 - That got dark.
2:28:20 - “Welp. Here I am…”
2:43:20 - FIRST TRY!
2:54:20 - “Hal’s and the new astronaut’s …” You know what this means, right? You need to discover the Hearthian naming convention and name your character! ;)
Epic
2:58:56 :o
Holy frustration, why would you refuse to use the one gadget to see the ghost matter?
lol that's gonna happen a lot. She doesn't know how to use it. Never paid attention to the tutorial. Isn't completely thorough :P. All these things will pile up :P. But she does seem like she'll figure it out eventually.
My approach to this is you have to sort of have a "god's eye" view on it. This is a species that struggles with understanding, and it will take them many deaths to figure out. When you have that approach it doesn't concern you. You know it will take her maybe death 1000 to work it out and that's ok. It is a good exercise in learning self-control and patience, almost meditative
@@radscorpion8Thats a great way to look at it. Usually thats the probem i have with watching Outer Wilds playthroughs, is the frustration of watching someone else not understand when I did right away. But yeah seeing it as an almost RP way of Hearthians just being like this, might make watching these playthroughs much more bearable
Your timing is giving you misinformation....makes it hard to learn when just by coincidence you experiment right whrn the sun goes supernova or a meteor hits or a cyclone...could make you both paranoid and confused, and you miss the results of your experiments. You should go back to timber hearth to learn about ghost matter from that kid
I'm far more scared of the ocean planet than anything in dark bramble. The anglerfish are pretty easy to avoid in general as long as you're quiet

Shame shame shame
how do I delete someone else's comment?
