If you're in the UK and want to go to this museum but obviously can't get there without heading out to the U.S. I suggest Bletchley Park. It has the colossus - the first digital computer along with other cool computing and second world war museum pieces... also it needs custom to be kept alive.
wow that was pretty awesome that from a quickly thrown server which was pretty fragile in 1999 to the most awesome macronetwork which consists of alot of server and which in turn was the beginning of which we call the internet
@heartlessvietboy There is a way to boot up quicker: Many of those small 8-bit systems of the 1980s had ther rudimentary OS'es built into them, in the form of ROM chips. Many of those systems also accepted "cartrudges"; little boxes with more ROM chips in them, which plugged into a port on the computer. The OS, plus any cartridge software yoy may have plugged in, was ready to use a second or two after power-up. Usually, the CRT displays of the day was the last part of the system to get ready.
Yes, the first electrical binary computer was called the "Z1," invented in 1936 by Konrad Zuse. It had a 64 word memory of 22 bits each, and a punchtape I/O.
How come no mention of the Brits development of computers. The computer museum @ Bletchley Park covers most of the pioneering days including ACE, Pegasus, LEO etc.
exponential times.. damn, in the last 30 years, this world changed a lot!!! game consoles, computers, cars.. holy crap.. that's more than what happened in the last 2000 years
With all those dials and knobs those old machines look more advanced and interesting to use than todays machines. Even though our mobile phones now are probably more powerful.
I would have never guessed the Enigma was a form of a computer. I always saw it as a typewriter. Neat video by the way. Now I know what my laptop would have looked like back in the days (A huge piece of metal with plugs and what not) :D
@heartlessvietboy off course only in latest advanced PCs like core 2 duo, is faster, even all the stuffs like rendering a video, gaming, all the works will load & complete soon, but i like all the old computer models, accessories, not by the features, only for the looks and a kind of gadget fantasy!
@heartlessvietboy of course, to make computer run faster just use Windows XP, if you want Windows Vista style use transformation pack (optional), want min 1.06 Ghz processor, with Pentium 4, min 180 GB hard disk remember to remove all the startup programs, then your computer will be3 alright to use faster everyday!
This guy are right because u have two ways of counting bits one way the conting u say 2 4 8 16 32 and so on and the second with straigh numbers of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 so u can say 4 k can be 4000 Byts or 4096 bits ;)
lol i started a video in the background of this one and he said "im dag spicer senious curator of the computer museum" and the other video said "IM a random windstorm. Shaky shaky"
Lol that is NOT the first computer as EFEWQ said. But the british mathmatician Charles Babbage was the first to fully design and even start building the diffrence engine, along with later designing the anylitical engine, Which is what computers today are based on.
it wasn't a big deal that a woman is concerned , it just happened that i was amazed with the admiral's contribution to the world of computing and how it started.
WoW, there`re all the collections of old PC devices, mode, ahh!, really amazing from old punch cards, 4k memory storage i`m thinking about how i could make my software programs while i`m in this days??
8-Bits is 8 Binary Digits whereas 12-Bits are 12 Binary Digits. Binary Digits are Digits used in a System to process information. OS' stands for Operating Systems. ROM stands for Read-Only Memory. If only Computer Science would teach students straight forward instead of the run-around balogny then Education would be much more fun and learningful. Science has been lately defined as Knowledge. So when I use the word Computer Science it means Computer Knowledge.
I visited that museum 2 years ago :) !!! How cool!!!:D Rocketboom/Ellie went to a place where I went! And people, stop writing sick things toward Ellie. Stop THINKING those things, too.
guys , he has been made to do interviews with people lol. Thats his job his workmates cleary know he is a noob so they make him feel he is important and make him do shit like this.
Australian viewers will be lying on their backs killing themselves laughing at the moment! The dude's name is "Dag"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very interesting video though! You dudes should see my first cell phone!! Big as a brick but called a "pocket phone" :-D
YOU are incorrect. It was invented by the university of pennysylvania and funded by the US military. Supposedly some german guy built what is considered the first computer in his garage but i cannot confirm it.

why is one of the four pages of text look like dwight?
Our editor is making a cut of the SAGE computer, showing it's built in ashtray, ray gun, and rotary phone. Badass, I tell ya! :)
the first hard drive was made by ibm, but way before the 50s.
I would like to check out that place
I've been to something similar on a much smaller scale in San Diego.

Why is there a band rehearsing in there? Can they not find somewhere more suitable.....(less of a nuisance)?
that place is pure awesome
exponential times.. damn, in the last 30 years, this world changed a lot!!! game consoles, computers, cars.. holy crap.. that's more than what happened in the last 2000 years
Oh, they didn't say how much memory the RAMAC had. Probably 100 meg or something...
Aw, I was kinda hoping they'd have a difference engine or an analytical engine.
I think that's youtube's ad.
i would like to see a more tech side to this
The Babbager Differential Computation Machine was before punched cards. It was immortalized in a Sherlock Holmes story!
I'm pretty sure your home computer is more powerful than all those old computers put together.
Hey, they must have one really big feather duster at that place!
They showed the first "Computer" they have on display, not the first one created.
Ellie Rountree is the reporter ?

(see wikipedia any other IT realted history book)

I just don't get why does she have the hand mic...
Yes , it was one of the first to use punch cards. I believe this museum is about electronic computers only :)
(the Babbage machine is missing also).
That place was so cool!!!
The music behind was like a nightmare!
JOANNE, COME BACK TO US!!!
@scratchyrice Do you realise that people, who cracked the Enigma code for British military was Poles?

Nice, having a Technology based website, I may visit here!
Lol that is NOT the first computer as EFEWQ said. But the british mathmatician Charles Babbage was the first to fully design and even start building the diffrence engine, along with later designing the anylitical engine, Which is what computers today are based on.

@fannybaba yeah... i wouldnt had figured that one out either =P
Watch the facial expressions of the chick reporter during the last 3 minutes of the vid. She's not only clued out, she looks like she's in pain.
