Sometimes the public and the media are not owed an explanation. We all need to enforce boundaries in our lives, and keeping things private/not disclosing certain information if we don’t want to is healthy. I’m sure he didn’t avoid disclosing his feelings about this in his personal relationships/the group who went through it with him. I see where you’re coming from, but I don’t see this as a growth thing, as I imagine, opening up to the media for a celebrity is more so so that they stop getting asked about it. The real work happens in their real, private, and personal lives. This is only my opinion!

Sounds to me like Harry was hurt when Zayn left, not only because Zayn was out of their lives now, but also because Zayn had been having such a bad time. Idt people are understanding what Harry said: he said that he, Niall, Louis, and Liam didn't know Zayn disliked it THAT MUCH. They were such close friends, so they obviously talked to each other a lot and were honest with each other; therefore, the four of them 100% knew Zayn wasn't enjoying the tour, but they didn't know he wasn't enjoying it to the extent where it would prompt him to leave. Basically, Harry was hurt because Zayn had been suffering (for lack of a better word) more than Harry was aware of. I don't appreciate how people are completely misunderstanding what Harry said and saying things like "Harry hates Zayn!!!" because its not true and you would know if you actually took the time to understand what he said.

If you listen Harry really emphasized he wished he would have taken more time to truly pay attention when he ask how his friends were Doing . After reading all the young men’s interviews recently they All had a work ethic that was above reproach. To be young and commit themselves to the amount of work they were doing is hard to wrap a persons head around . Wishing each and every one of these young men enormous personal success in All facets of their lives . They certainly have earned it . Also wishing people would respect their privacy even more because they spent literally their entire young lives in direct eye of the public . I think many of us can relate with Zayn. Because sometimes even being in a wonderful circle some of us feel lonely sometimes. Sometimes we feel like we don't exist or not getting enough love or attention from our friends. Because of the feeling of loneliness we go through this depression, anxiety, stress, eating disorder, mental breakdown. In order to fix ourself or get rid of this stress, depression we choose to leave the circle or group to have some alone time for ourself or understand what is going on.
I think Harry is sugar coating their time in 1D a LOT. They were all clearly having a shit time. I’m sure they had moments where everything was fine, but these guys were touring like every other year and releasing albums yearly. By 2015, you could see how mentally and physically drained they all were. Unfortunately, Zayn took it the hardest. He already has performance anxiety. And I’m not sure if you guys remember, but while all the other boys got their fair share of slander from the media, Zayn was CONSTANTLY being attacked. Be it because of his race, or the fact that he was Muslim. He was constantly being accused of cheating or taking drugs. And it was starting to not be worth it because he wasn’t even making the music he liked. He changed a LOT from the person he was when they started out. He barely spoke or cracked a smile in interviews, and he lost so much weight and became paler. I wouldn’t be surprised if Zayn never told them how he was feeling, because that’s the reality of depression. His decision to leave was probably out of the blue for the boys, but he’d probably been thinking about it for months. For them, it felt like abandonment. And distancing himself from the band so he could heal ultimately meant distancing himself from the boys. It’s really unfortunate. I just hope they work it out in the future.

He was worldwidely known and seen as ladies’ man which he struggled with. Harry’s grandmother also passed away in late 2014. He had a downfall with Z before he left, courtesy Thai journalist. Liam was suffering drinking / alcohol abuse. He has health problems, he fell ill and hospitalised that 1D cancelled a show in Oct 2015. He split from Sophia not long after. He’s had mental health issues during pre hiatus 1D era which he’s only been opening up about recently. Niall Horan has OCD, and anxiety too. He has acid reflux condition as well. You know I faced a situation and I now know what Harry actually feels... My best friend and I had a very bad argument and we broke apart... We were Soo much close. After we separated, we were always cold towards each other. But what pain we went through was just unbearable. It just felt like a burden on my heart. Being cold doesn't always mean that you hate them but it sometimes means that you miss them, respect and love them but you are equally hurt

@@justice.01997 It is, but London's really amazing at that too. thing about NYC is that while there is a lot of intermixing and integration, races are still pretty separated by neighborhoods, it's not just black and white but ethnicities from all over the world living in different pockets, while in london it seems people of all races are living together in the same neighborhoods, and it's more a class divide than a racial one over there, at least from what I saw.

I cried for an entire day in my dorm room when Zayn left... so I can only imagine what the boys felt. Being a fan of 1D feels like an eternity ago... but some of my happiest memories were from those days. I hope each and every member, all five boys, are feeling happy and content now. If not, I hope they can get to a point in their lives where they are. We're all a work in progress.
Am I the only person that thinks Harry knew about Zayns eating disorder and his bad mental health? I mean he refused to sing "weigh" in little things while Zayn had the eating disorder, he asked for a break and he was always there for Zayn. I think they were a lot closer than most people think.
Zayn and Harry were/ are very close, but Zayn was deathly thin and Had panic attacks before going on stage during the end of his run in 1D. He also received a ton of hate based off of the color of his skin and his religion. Zayn saved himself, nothing wrong with that.
Losing a friend in this sort of real, blindsided way is so on point. It happens. The fact that Zayn came out saying he and Harry never really spoke, I just don't feel as if that is true. I can't imagine how Harry felt hearing that. And whatever conversations must have happened between the two. I feel like there are some people in our lives, that we can be so close to. Those we wholeheartedly just trust. And then suddenly, they'll stop being your friend and all these things come out that you never knew they felt. It is a very painful, betraying feeling, especially when you feel like they are family. I think losing a friend is underrated. I lost a friend in this way a few years ago, and honestly, even though a lot of it is blurrier now and they are likely a different person, it still stings.

I understand us fans love them being together and making music, but many boy bands grow up or want to make their own music! I think it’s not a big deal that the band split up, they should still stay in contact and be close, but definitely have a life of their own. Zayn has always been my favorite, he stood out to me and even till this day, his music and voice is beautiful.

Harry was always the centre of attention ever since 1D was formed. He wouldn't know what it's like to be in Zayn's shoes, being constantly judged by a racist and communal media and fandom. I definitely think , with respect to your opinion , that every 1D member went through their own troubles. Zany just went through them a little latter. If you watch videos of them earlier, there we’re definitely some for Harry too, he just dealt with them a little differently. I’m not a die hard 1D fan so I could be wrong but if I’m remembering there were almost as many if not more Zayn fans as there were Harry.
People with mental health troubles become very good at covering it and masking in front of those they love and care about. Particulary ppl with ADHD which I think Zayn has said he was diagnosed with? Many people fight a private battle for a long time before they let anyone know. 5 busy guys, all dealing with celebrity, fame and their own lives may not have spent a lot of personal time together talking about deep and private issues.
Tan R I definitely agree with you. Mental troubles and a busy life like that could be hard to manage. I do think though that they were closer than they all lets on. You look at some other bands who spend as much time together and you look at their relationship and it doesn’t compare. Their situation does have to do with the quality of their time in the band but I do think that they did spend enough time together to be able to talk to each other if they were unhappy to that extent.
This makes me so emotional, I remember when I was 12 I would say “I’m never gonna stop loving them” and now I’m 18 I’m Over them & there not a group anymore , it just makes me sad 😞

We don’t really know what was happening behind the scenes but there maybe a deeper reason as to why Zayn wasn’t communicating with them. Maybe he didn’t feel like he was being heard or that he would be taken seriously . I also think Zayn outgrew 1D to a point where he didn’t feel close to anyone at all plus dealing with his mental health. Maybe one day they can all sit down and just have a heart to heart conversation but I think there’s more to the story and reason why they’re just not as close anymore.
Honestly I think it wasn’t fun for Zayn because as they got a little older he realized a lot of fans started seeing him and his image different from the rest of the group and he didn’t want the unnecessary tension of being the one that sticks out from the group so he left.

You guys It was SO OBVIOUS that zany wasn’t happy in the band anymore I mean just watch any interview of them, he was always quiet and seemed off. How did they not notice ? Harry knew.... I am sure ONLY HARRY knew about what Zayn was going through..... Eating disorders and mental stresses, and both tried to get a break in late 2014, which other guys was not okay with. Zayn wasn't patient enough. Maybe smthg instantly triggered him. Harry took it personally... And got mad and don't responded when Z contacted him after leaving Made' in the am' songs written by Harry were clearly refering Zayn(If I could fly, Walking by the wind, and parts of Perfect) I still believe they talk to each other through lyrics.
Harry and Zayn were always close. Imagine how Harry must have felt when Zayn said in an Interview that they are not talking and even wehen he was in the band they were not really talking, which is definitely not true if you have seen videos of them together.
This is so sad - you can see how all of them took it so personally and I bet there were bitter words exchanged behind the scenes. But the way Harry, Louis, Niall, and Liam handled it publicly was really sad - they were sometimes mean even. I get it - it’s hard, but this is all public and Zayn has never said anything bitter or negative about it at all. I was/am a huge 1D fan and I love them all so much - but it hurts seeing them confused themselves about their relationship with each other.
I am so happy to see them making name on their own. That’s what’s so important for me as a Directioner. I know that it really took a toll on all four them when Zayn left, they were hurt but it is what it is. And I like that Harry is so open to talk about it now. I’m proud of them.

Sometimes the public and the media are not owed an explanation. We all need to enforce boundaries in our lives, and keeping things private/not disclosing certain information if we don’t want to is healthy. I’m sure he didn’t avoid disclosing his feelings about this in his personal relationships/the group who went through it with him. I see where you’re coming from, but I don’t see this as a growth thing, as I imagine, opening up to the media for a celebrity is more so so that they stop getting asked about it. The real work happens in their real, private, and personal lives. This is only my opinion!

Sounds to me like Harry was hurt when Zayn left, not only because Zayn was out of their lives now, but also because Zayn had been having such a bad time. Idt people are understanding what Harry said: he said that he, Niall, Louis, and Liam didn't know Zayn disliked it THAT MUCH. They were such close friends, so they obviously talked to each other a lot and were honest with each other; therefore, the four of them 100% knew Zayn wasn't enjoying the tour, but they didn't know he wasn't enjoying it to the extent where it would prompt him to leave. Basically, Harry was hurt because Zayn had been suffering (for lack of a better word) more than Harry was aware of. I don't appreciate how people are completely misunderstanding what Harry said and saying things like "Harry hates Zayn!!!" because its not true and you would know if you actually took the time to understand what he said.

I think many of us can relate with Zayn. Because sometimes even being in a wonderful circle some of us feel lonely sometimes. Sometimes we feel like we don't exist or not getting enough love or attention from our friends. Because of the feeling of loneliness we go through this depression, anxiety, stress, eating disorder, mental breakdown. In order to fix ourself or get rid of this stress, depression we choose to leave the circle or group to have some alone time for ourself or understand what is going on.

I think Harry is sugar coating their time in 1D a LOT. They were all clearly having a shit time. I’m sure they had moments where everything was fine, but these guys were touring like every other year and releasing albums yearly. By 2015, you could see how mentally and physically drained they all were.
Unfortunately, Zayn took it the hardest. He already has performance anxiety. And I’m not sure if you guys remember, but while all the other boys got their fair share of slander from the media, Zayn was CONSTANTLY being attacked. Be it because of his race, or the fact that he was Muslim. He was constantly being accused of cheating or taking drugs. And it was starting to not be worth it because he wasn’t even making the music he liked. He changed a LOT from the person he was when they started out. He barely spoke or cracked a smile in interviews, and he lost so much weight and became paler.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Zayn never told them how he was feeling, because that’s the reality of depression. His decision to leave was probably out of the blue for the boys, but he’d probably been thinking about it for months.
For them, it felt like abandonment. And distancing himself from the band so he could heal ultimately meant distancing himself from the boys. It’s really unfortunate. I just hope they work it out in the future.

According to all members they all where going through their own issues...harry being framed as womaniser , Louis and Zayn for drugs..Liam has having drinking issues , Zayn going through break with his girlfriend...being forced to chage he wanna sing, niall was may be the only one who had a better mental stability at the time when he was trying to make each boys to be comfortable with each other...that call him peace maker in the group...may be that's why they didn't really thought about what other person was going through all those time when they where together...

He’s had drugs alcohol abuse probs. His grandmother died back in 2014.
Harry’s step dad was sick for years and secretly hospitalised too before he died in 2017. His mother just married him few years ago. Harry (if it was true) split from Nadine Leopold. He was worldwidely known and seen as ladies’ man which he struggled with. Harry’s grandmother also passed away in late 2014. He had a downfall with Z before he left, courtesy Thai journalist.
Liam was suffering drinking / alcohol abuse. He has health problems, he fell ill and hospitalised that 1D cancelled a show in Oct 2015. He split from Sophia not long after. He’s had mental health issues during pre hiatus 1D era which he’s only been opening up about recently.
Niall Horan has OCD, and anxiety too. He has acid reflux condition as well. He underwent surgeries. Other than those, there’s no more news recorded problems. Doesn’t necessarily mean he doesn’t have more.
They might had spent years with each other but they don’t get the entire and every single aspects of each other’s life. They’ve even had different friends circle during 1D eras! Louis with Stan, Niall with Deo, Liam with Andy, etc.
They had crazy schedules. Their management nearly sucked them dry. They made 4 albums 4 years in a row which they also recorded in hotel rooms ffs

My best friend and I had a very bad argument and we broke apart... We were Soo much close. After we separated, we were always cold towards each other. But what pain we went through was just unbearable. It just felt like a burden on my heart.

From an outside perspective, it seems as though Zayn wasn’t very clear about why he left. Obviously he opened up after he left but in the moment I think he randomly quit and that’s why they were all really confused.
He left because of all the cheating rumors. And he was even accused of taking drugs when he started losing weight because of his eating disorder (like stupid assumptions). Everyone kinda knew that he was not happy lately. Even Simon confirmed it in an interview that he felt that zayn doesn't want to stay... So...

I cried for an entire day in my dorm room when Zayn left... so I can only imagine what the boys felt. Being a fan of 1D feels like an eternity ago... but some of my happiest memories were from those days. I hope each and every member, all five boys, are feeling happy and content now. If not, I hope they can get to a point in their lives where they are. We're all a work in progress.
Am I the only person that thinks Harry knew about Zayns eating disorder and his bad mental health? I mean he refused to sing "weigh" in little things while Zayn had the eating disorder, he asked for a break and he was always there for Zayn. I think they were a lot closer than most people think.

Losing a friend in this sort of real, blindsided way is so on point. It happens. The fact that Zayn came out saying he and Harry never really spoke, I just don't feel as if that is true. I can't imagine how Harry felt hearing that. And whatever conversations must have happened between the two. I feel like there are some people in our lives, that we can be so close to. Those we wholeheartedly just trust. And then suddenly, they'll stop being your friend and all these things come out that you never knew they felt. It is a very painful, betraying feeling, especially when you feel like they are family. I think losing a friend is underrated. I lost a friend in this way a few years ago, and honestly, even though a lot of it is blurrier now and they are likely a different person, it still stings.

I understand us fans love them being together and making music, but many boy bands grow up or want to make their own music! I think it’s not a big deal that the band split up, they should still stay in contact and be close, but definitely have a life of their own. Zayn has always been my favorite, he stood out to me and even till this day, his music and voice is beautiful.

Zayn suffered from anxiety, depression, an eating disorder, racism, and being the only Muslim in the band. I’m glad he left, to sort his own mental health out. The boys all knew this, they just weren’t ready to go solo.

Harry was always the centre of attention ever since 1D was formed. He wouldn't know what it's like to be in Zayn's shoes, being constantly judged by a racist and communal media and fandom. Zayn went through a lot, like performance anxiety, eating disorders and whatnot. If they were so close and all, I don't understand how they could have possibly failed to notice any of these about Zayn. It was obvious that everything wasn't as rosy as it seemed. And at the end of the day, it is Zayn's life. He should be able to choose whatever he wants to do with it.

I definitely think , with respect to your opinion , that every 1D member went through their own troubles. Zany just went through them a little latter. If you watch videos of them earlier, there we’re definitely some for Harry too, he just dealt with them a little differently. I’m not a die hard 1D fan so I could be wrong but if I’m remembering there were almost as many if not more Zayn fans as there were Harry.
People with mental health troubles become very good at covering it and masking in front of those they love and care about. Particulary ppl with ADHD which I think Zayn has said he was diagnosed with? Many people fight a private battle for a long time before they let anyone know. 5 busy guys, all dealing with celebrity, fame and their own lives may not have spent a lot of personal time together talking about deep and private issues.
Tan R I definitely agree with you. Mental troubles and a busy life like that could be hard to manage. I do think though that they were closer than they all lets on. You look at some other bands who spend as much time together and you look at their relationship and it doesn’t compare. Their situation does have to do with the quality of their time in the band but I do think that they did spend enough time together to be able to talk to each other if they were unhappy to that extent.

We don’t really know what was happening behind the scenes but there maybe a deeper reason as to why Zayn wasn’t communicating with them. Maybe he didn’t feel like he was being heard or that he would be taken seriously . I also think Zayn outgrew 1D to a point where he didn’t feel close to anyone at all plus dealing with his mental health. Maybe one day they can all sit down and just have a heart to heart conversation but I think there’s more to the story and reason why they’re just not as close anymore.
Honestly I think it wasn’t fun for Zayn because as they got a little older he realized a lot of fans started seeing him and his image different from the rest of the group and he didn’t want the unnecessary tension of being the one that sticks out from the group so he left.
I generally felt as a fan of their band that once was that they may have took it personal. They bonded together over loss kind of.

This is so sad - you can see how all of them took it so personally and I bet there were bitter words exchanged behind the scenes. But the way Harry, Louis, Niall, and Liam handled it publicly was really sad - they were sometimes mean even. I get it - it’s hard, but this is all public and Zayn has never said anything bitter or negative about it at all. I was/am a huge 1D fan and I love them all so much - but it hurts seeing them confused themselves about their relationship with each other.

I am so happy to see them making name on their own. That’s what’s so important for me as a Directioner. I know that it really took a toll on all four them when Zayn left, they were hurt but it is what it is. And I like that Harry is so open to talk about it now. I’m proud of them.
