  • Backhoe cross tube broke off of a Catapillar 416 backhoe. Cutting off the center hydraulic pivot mount can be a challenge if you don't know what to do.
    I give a brief rundown of how I go about removing specific parts from one another with the use of a torch. In this case, I had the ability to scrap the broken piece since the tube was already no good. This helped to not cut the "good part" and do most of the torch cutting on the sacrificial piece it was welded to. hope this video gives you some ideas on how to go about removing the two without the need of an arc gouger.

    Very steady hands with the cutting torch and you sure care for your tools, I've seen many guys use the torch as a hammer to tape the parts off. lol, you are top shelf. Thanks for the show, of how it should be done.

    Can I just say, your truck is awesome! I've never seen any mobile works truck like that here in the UK. I'm sure similar exist, but nothing I've seen with a massive vise hanging on the back, opening doors with torches neatly in place, generators, grinders, welders..... It's like Heaven on wheels!!!

    I am /was a certified gas pipe line welder, never worked pipeline , but couple yrs heavy construction & 20yrs @ NUMMI/ Toyota/GMC & was always thankful that the few times I got burned I was close to a refrigerator/freezer where I could get ICE . In hind sight it might be a good idea to always have a small cooler/icebox in the truck

      He cut those ears off in half the time I could have and I still would have had to spend an hour grinding.
      Yeah, I'm a better grinder than a cutter and I'm not a good grinder.

    It seems to me that the torch has better control than the Arc gouger, I mean you can produce a more delicate result. Again you demonstrate using the torch as a scalpel Nice job

    I.C., If You collect all those pieces of scrap, both large and small, it being mostly No.1, by the end of each month you would have yourself a pretty good dollar to fund a nice IRA so you won't have to do this forever and ever. I'am impressed by how quiet you make that torch run.

    After watching this man work on these cat backhoes I don't think I would buy one . They are either junk or the people operating don't know what they're doing

      Idk man, lots of heavy equipment will get some cracks. If you catch them early its a cheap and easy fix, these guys probably don't check over there stuff often enough.
