I remember this show when I was little and that's when I remember the man, the myth, the legend of all game shows that was wise and considerate to himself and to his contestants. There will never ever be another game show host quite like Alex Trebek. You will be missed my many fans that love your gratitude in game shows. R.I.P./R.I.H. To "The Quiz Master."

He was my third favorite host behind Bill Cullen (#2) and Tom Kennedy (#1).

I'm not so certain that it's "antique" or "Chinese"-my supposition is that it was probably just an ordinary fish bowl stuffed with cash (like TPIR often does in the "Temptation" game).

So if you think about it maybe the show ending was a good thing for her since she had a baby coming (this is a huge maybe though).

Looks like Alex gave NBC the finger for cancelling High Rollers for the ill-fated David Letterman Show at 19:12. But of course Alex would host 3 more game shows for the network with Battlestars, Classic Concentration, and To Tell The Truth.

    • @LogoMan7777

Well, he did have another finger next to the middle one.

I would've given the finger to Silverman only for canceling this along with Hollywood Squares and Chain Reaction. Thank goodness he didn't cancel Card Sharks or Password Plus. NBC made up for it (or tried maybe) by replacing Letterman with Blockbusters and Las Vegas Gambit but thankfully Silverman left shortly afterwards so he couldn't mess things up anymore. His career never recovered since.

That never ended there. By 1987, “High Rollers” came back after a 6-year absence, Wink Martindale hosted that one but it lasted about 1988 or 1989 to say the least.
On “The Price Is Right”, “Dice Game” is the game where you can win a car, and it played just like “High Rollers”, but completely different.
There was a voiceover announcer during the end credits where “The Rockford Files” are coming on after this. I remember the show, but the series is on DVD, and I also remember the theme song as well.

That's why Charkie Odonnell left (a common practice for announcers when one of their shows is about to be cancelled) then Jack Clark took over until he died of cancer in 1988. Then Charlie came back in '89.

But it was still about another 3 years before much of America took notice of the show. For about the first 8 years of its run, it just basically sat there on the lineup, doing OK in the ratings, but never outstanding.

Thats why I could literally strangle Silverman as he made the final decision to cancel this, Hollywood Squares and Chain Reaction. The joke was on him though as The David Letterman Show was canceled after only 90 minutes. That decision basically destroyed his career on NBC and television in general. Thank goodness he didn't cancel Card Sharks or Password Plus either.

@@LogoMan7777 Alex was reportedly drunk during taping of that particular last show and during his appearance during game show hosts week around that same time on the "Jim Perry" Card Sharks. He said (and I believe it) that by the time he started hosting Jeopardy! in fall of '84, he was sober from then on. That's when he really got his life going by picking up a second show, Classic Concentration in particular but a year before that he cohosted a syndicated talk show on american television usually ran in the mornings similar to "Regis & Kathy Lee". He got married around that time (I believe in the late 80s) and they had a baby in '90 or'91 which caused him to miss a taping of To Tell The Truth* he was also hosting for the back half of that season. *Mark Goodson filled in
