Moto Guzzi California Vintage - Getting Rid of Wind Buffeting Caused by the Original Windshield

  • Shorten the windshield or buy a larger one? Chrome windshield deflectors built for Harley-Davidson models FLHT, FLHS, FLHR 1983 → (original HD kit number is 58121-85B) and mounting the windshield in a more upright position solved the problem for me!
I even added an extension similar to a Laminar LIP with 3M™ Dual Lock™ discs (20 mm, SJ3560).
Giving the shield a more upright position by making the mounting holes a bit wider and cutting away a bit of material above the headlight to make this possible (and you will get more air behind the shield) were the first important steps. Adding "lowers" (wind deflectors) finally solved the problem.
I bought the chrome windshield deflectors here:

I worked for 30 years with Plexiglas (i was a miniature modeler in architecture)
You have done an excellent job, congrats.
Presently a happy owner of a 38 years old BMW K 100 RT, my next one will be either the R 1200 RT, the Guzzi Norge, or this very bike.
Have to admit that her streamline, her sound and her comfort....Well...😉

I am on my 2nd Cal Vintage and have had two other California models (both Bassas) previously. The absolute BEST, hands down windshield/fairing is the the Swanee Pacifico or a clone. VERY hard to find today, and very expensive if you do find one, but nothing beats it.

Interesting. By the way, the deflectors from Norway came from me 😉. They work fine but i will try to improve the flow by moving the screen to a more upright position, as you have done. Good idea and good photos! Grüsse von Norwegen!

Hah ... :-) ... I got your photos by your companion on the German "Moto Guzzi Freunde Forum" and asked via him if I can use them.
      Well done!

I don´t think so, at least I have never seen those.
You can find some for other Californias e.g. here:

If you don't want to get wind in your face, you can always get in your car. Just sayin'.

Wind is not the problem - Buffeting and turbulences are (incl. extreme noise inside the helmet).
