If u can't do this , you need to buy a brain. Cuz JEE is 8 levels ahead of this, and it's an exam for high schoolers. But, putting that's aside, these problems are actually pretty easy.

For C... I got the answer like this: the tangent of e^x is just... e^x by basic calculus. So using the definition of a straight line the equations e^p = e^p(x - p) e^q= e^q(x - q) In the examples y = 0 and x = a or b respectively. e^p = e^p(a - p) e^q = e^q(b - q) e^p = e^p(a - p) e^q = e^q(b - q) 1 = a - p 1 = b - q a - p = b - q p - a = q - b (times by -1)
Looks a lot more fun when you're not actually sitting it lol. A year ago I came out of the MAT feeling terrible and wanting to cry, now I'm in Oxford crying over a lack of social life. I would just give some advice; firstly your MAT isn't all that important compared to interview for most colleges if you can get one, so don't worry about your score not being 90, you'll be fine. Also they can and do look through your MAT script if your score is marginal, so if you did anything silly so you can't pick up a lot of marks they can still see any maths you did do that looks good, but don't worry about things looking like a mess or your handwriting being 'terrible', it's all understandable and they don't care about your handwriting, trust me!
Honestly it is pretty reassuring hearing that things looking like a mess isn't a big deal. Under low-pressure conditions doing practice papers I was able to write short, neat proofs quickly but when I was actually sat in the room I panicked and wrote way more than I should have done, so every step was a lot messier than it could have been. Still disappointed that I took longer on many parts than I should have meaning I wasn't able to finish every question, but hey you are never going to perform as well under pressure as you are when practising, and if I don't get in I know it wasn't for lack of preparation.
@@titouanvasnier2347 I didn't attempt question 3 at all past part i. when I really should have been able to. Otherwise I just about finished every question, tho as I said above I don't think all my workings were as neat as they could have been.
@@jacobroe3653 You scared me 😆 I did every question of Q2 and Q3 but pretty much none for Q4 and Q5. I did not manage my time really well, I got 7/10 on the MCQ
I'm doing the ENGAA and I have had the exact same experience. I would've got top grade in every section last year, but this year I made so many mistakes and messed up my timing which cost me super hard. Its rough but it's how exams often go :/
The most annoying thing that can happen in MAT is to know exactly how to do a multiple-choice (1F) but made an algebraic slip in the calculation... It feels so much worse than not knowing how to do it in the first place :(( Why can't Oxford gives some mark for the working of MC😭

All questions were easy for me as I was habitual to them, but writing complete solutions to them all is quite a laborious task. Dunno what's the rocket science in this. Nah I guess not, plus even if the score requirements are similar, the weightage of MAT isn't as high for CS applicants as it is for Maths ones. Besides don't compare the scores coz CS and Maths students attempt many different questions.

Oxford decide whether to give you an interview based on your score on this compared to other applicants, so unfortunately yes... As for Imperial and Warwick, I think their thresholds are slightly lower so there might still be hope...? If you really bombed it, though, you might want to consider applying again next year or doing the STEP for Warwick if they give you an offer (or Imperial).

You gave the test too? Just out of curiosity, did you give it at Mumbai? Look there's no "cutoff" as such - these scores are viewed in combination with all other elements of your application, including the interview which will now be offered, so there's no guarantee of selection per se. But yes, anything below 60 is certain rejection (unless you're an exceptional case on medical/social grounds) and anything above 90 is certain acceptance unless you totally bomb the interview (usually never happens).
You know you say that... But JEE just looks like they made you learn a massive array of topics to cut you down (weird notations that you'll probably never see afterwords), where as the MAT refines your skills in your core topics. Not to mention the cramming in the science portions It might be "hard" but it's not a good test, it's just made to break you

@@Joe-pj6ds I am a re-applicant so I took two actual tests 20 and this year. I would say 20 one's question is less straight forward than this paper but this one is overall harder in MCQs and the questions seem to be hard to complete in 2:30. So I think this year's average would be around 3 points lower than last year.
@@terryyu4923 ye ok, I also sat the 2020 paper and agree it was easier overall. Although I would actually say that the Q1s on this paper were harder too, I got 10 last year and 8 this year. I'm assuming that the average will be closer to 5 points lower than last year. Q5 on last years paper was impossible to get wrong and the other long Qs I think were all easier than this year except Q4 - this year's Q4 seemed pretty ok. Regardless, a score around 85 for you will be very competitive, which college/subject are you going for?
As an Indian preparing for JEE Advanced and someone who has also been to the IMOTC, I'll say NO. Don't think about JEE advanced here, it's totally different and based on "applied maths". The maths on this test is pure maths, this is what you should be able to do in order to become a pure mathematician. What JEE teaches is mostly niche and obscure techniques and theorems specific to the questions so you can familiarise yourself and crack the Qs. Barring topics like Probability, Vectors and Integration, jee involves very few elements of original and inventive thought. Check out KVPY (SA & SX) Maths, they're actually good (part-2 I mean). I'm not discrediting JEE toppers though, since they are also usually good at pure maths.

I would say 20 one's question is less straight forward than this paper but this one is overall harder in MCQs and the questions seem to be hard to complete in 2:30. So I think this year's average would be around 3 points lower than last year.

@@terryyu4923 ye ok, I also sat the 2020 paper and agree it was easier overall. Although I would actually say that the Q1s on this paper were harder too, I got 10 last year and 8 this year. I'm assuming that the average will be closer to 5 points lower than last year.
Q5 on last years paper was impossible to get wrong and the other long Qs I think were all easier than this year except Q4 - this year's Q4 seemed pretty ok.
Regardless, a score around 85 for you will be very competitive, which college/subject are you going for?

As an Indian preparing for JEE Advanced and someone who has also been to the IMOTC, I'll say NO. Don't think about JEE advanced here, it's totally different and based on "applied maths".
The maths on this test is pure maths, this is what you should be able to do in order to become a pure mathematician. What JEE teaches is mostly niche and obscure techniques and theorems specific to the questions so you can familiarise yourself and crack the Qs. Barring topics like Probability, Vectors and Integration, jee involves very few elements of original and inventive thought.
Check out KVPY (SA & SX) Maths, they're actually good (part-2 I mean). I'm not discrediting JEE toppers though, since they are also usually good at pure maths.

@@manswind3417 it involves few elements of mathematical reasoning? Hahahahaha, just say u find this difficult as well. Jee has insane amounts of mathematical, and conceptual reasoning. And this is real maths? Yes, yes it is, but so is jee. Its just much on steroids.
