Keep up the excellent content, and try to keep the stress levels lover in 2025.

Sony buying Kadokawa is not about FromSoftware and gaming at all. It's about thousands of their mostly anime-related IPs across anime, novels, manga, games, and so on. Kadokawa owns an absolutely giant share of anime IPs, and Sony owns a dominant share in its international distribution (as well as anime and anime music). From Software is just something gamers know, but it's tiny in comparison to the real value of Kadokawa.

PS5 Pro sales have no bearing on PS6 pricing. You guys seem to be glossing over the fact that the end goal is to sell software and services. Sony is not going to want to sell fewer overall consoles with higher revenue if that impacts the total revenue that could be generated with a larger userbase. If anything, I think the Pro's success suggests that it would behoove Sony to launch with two SKUs, and have the more powerful model somewhat subsidize the price of the base model.

    • @initialfd-3716
      @initialfd-3716 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I agree the pro won’t affect the ps6 pricing just because 1/5 of the user base is willing to pay 700 for now doesn’t mean that a majority of the market would be willing to do it 3-4 years from now they are gonna want quicker adoption when next gen comes, they seen success with the ps5 at around 500 and would probably try to keep it between 500 and 600 because the vast majority will be shopping in that price range doesn’t matter if they have competition from Microsoft or not. I still don’t know if they want to do the two screw approach but that might be the play with the handheld.

I skipped two gens and got an AMD 7900 XT. It worked great but had two flaws. Driver issues for VR (which now seem fixed, but I didn't want to wait) and my stupid mistake of buying the largest sized card out there because Asus gave a rebate. 😅 Of course then I wanted to go mini ITX... I sold it and got a discounted 4080s so I could just enjoy VR without hassles. I think I can sit out a few gens now if things keep going like this. If I need another system, I see no issues in getting another AMD card.

    • @or1on89

These influencer make it sound like AMD cards are "worse" but honestly the 7900XTX has been faster than the 4080 since day one and it's still faster than the 4080 Super. The card is stable, drivers are okay and Adrenaline is better than the shitty Nvidia Panel.
RT is the big elephant in the room, because RT requires upscaling (and FSR is worse than DLSS) and because PAth Tracing is a Nvidia-only experiment so far, so how much you care about that is the needle mover.
I personally sold my 3080Ti because of frustration with how much I had to rely on DLSS...the 7900XTX removed that need for me (I play at 3440x1440) and I've been happy to not use upscaling at all except in a few games and in Quality mode. When SteamOS comes out I will be ready to drop Windows for a better experience that doesn't hamper my CPU or GPU...with Nvidia I couldn't. I change my hardware every 4/5 years so I took a bet changing prematurely my 3080Ti for a 7900XTX, so far is paying well. Be wary of the amount of unwarranted praising that Nvidia and Intel are taking despite their faux pas (that for some reason are never as bad as AMD's ones, funny innit?).

Daniel Owens did a big 4080 7900XTX comparison...Raster was upto 7% favouring the 7900XTX....but normalising the more games tested to an even more neglible difference....BUT RT was upto 50% faster on NVidia. Paying $1000 for a gpu with trash RT is not great. RDNA4 looks way way better....but AMD don't appear to have a 7900XTX raster perf card in the RDNA4 lineup. IF AMD manage 7900XT raster and 4070TI RT perf for $600-$650 it'll probably sell pretty well. But 7900XTX raster plus 35% to 40% better RT perf at that price. That would take market share.

The MTT S80 is an excellent example of a on paper good card with drivers that struggle in modern gaming.
Also, I feel, the Nvidia ARM APU will probably work best on Linux. Microsoft couldn't be bothered to help Qualcomm get Windows on ARM to function properly.
TLDR: Qualcomm GPUs will be meaningless to the gaming market. Games are so specifically tuned to GPUs nowadays with game day drivers.

The chip is supposed to have a module for files decompression, like PS5 I guess, a feature that can offload stress from the CPU compared to XBOX series or Steam Deck. They showed it running on a 4090. I highly encourage you to look into it- I haven't been this excited about a new tech since programmable shaders first came about!

100% agree. Just saw it, what a great highlight and explanation of the most profound papers. I think it was by Marco Salvi at I3D Symposium and not Inno3D.
This tech has been blowing my mind for a while. I recommend Two Minute Papers for paper highlights if you're interested. The stuff on AI physics simulation there is just mind boggling. The rate of progress in neural rendering has been truly amazing. NeRFs and the AI filters for older games are even more crazy than what was shown here even if they are in their infancy and easily +5 years away.
This is clearly days of the technology, but I just can't wait to see where it'll be in 5 years form now. Remember where DLSS and RT was 5 years ago? Look at it now. Wow! Because AI on another level is involved here I suspect the progress will be infinitely more rapid. No wonder Cerny like NVIDIA is doubling down on RT and ML for the PS6.
Oh and for sure we'll be getting a Wow demo at CES where they'll go all out. This stuff is from 2023, and I'm sure they have a lot of stuff cooking behind the scenes. Getting asynchronous reprojection working without its flaws (NVIDIA can pull this off) + Neural Crisp (superior TAA without all the drawbacks of TAA (this one will be tricky) + frame extrapolation should convince anyone that the future is neural rendering. Imagining running the game with a 3x frame multiplier (on top of upscaling) with input decoupled from framerate (ultrafast and low latency) + sharp and antialiased image. This is not going to happen right away but I think it'll happen a lot sooner than most people think.

Regarding DLSS vs FSR, I think it has reached the point where it's not truly about how wide the peak gap is, but rather how many people are satisfied with the common baseline -whatever that may be. And I think FSR has come very close to reaching that baseline where a lot of people may start thinking "yea sure DLSS is theoretically better, but FSR is already good enough". Same way people know a 240hz monitor is technically better than a 144hz monitor, but it's a neat bonus at that point, rather than a main selling point. Most people are already satisfied with 144hz as it is. It isn't really as contested of a metric anymore compared to the early days where each new iteration of DLSS and FSR was a major frog leap of improvement and also mindshare associated with that improvement.
I think it is more adamant than ever, that Nvidia keeps stacking on NEW features to DLSS, rather than just improving it overall. Improvement is important, but new sales points start to mean increasingly more to keep that "good enough" floor higher than what AMD can easily reach. Neural processing could be something to help this, where potentially you can start seeing the "performance" DLSS mode getting better and better quality without dropping the fps benefits. That would be something that would really push hard on the key metric that FSR can sort of hang onto right now. At the top end DLSS is ofc superior and people who care about the top end will care more about just general improvement, over new novel features. It's at the base floor where the real fight will happen.
At least that's my presumption until we see what each company unveils with their upcoming GPU launches.

@@Dempig Which exactly proves my point, the vast majority of those who will see the high-end benefits of DLSS are likely demanding more from the baseline to begin with, such as upscaling to 4K. The overwhelming majority of people play at 1440p and 1080p, and will not upscale beyond that point, so their demand by nature is 4x lower than yours, so the peak difference isn't as big of a factor to them, as it is to you.
I am totally with your experience, I play at 3K ultrawide with my 4080 and I tried FSR too in some titles and the quality difference is noticeable. Had I been on a bit lower end hardware at regular resolution, I would ofc appreciate DLSS still but I probably wouldn't consider it as much of a selling point for a budgeted build that isn't intended to play at 4K high quality anyways.

I think PlayStation 6 and new Handheld should be an updated modern version of PlayStation 3 with increased RAM, improved hardware Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, with AMD x86 processor implementation in FPGA.
(Also PlayStation 3, or another processor architecture, could be implemented in FPGA at the same time)
One design for PlayStation 6 architecture could be, two or one physical Cell processors with three FPGAs to hold any other architecture.
This way developers could target Cell Processor, AMD x86 processor, or any other architecture depending on experience.

The price needs to stay at $500 unless the performance is better than we think, and even then....at $650 that's a very easy pass. X86S is one of the many proposed extensions to that ISA over the next few years. An equally large change would be APX which expands the GPR count from 16 to 32. Then there is AVX10 which furthers the SIMD capabilities, though hopefully the worst of AVX10 will also be killed. AMX is supposed to be enhanced further. Intel is probably tackling too much at once. Since X86S impacts backwards compatibility to a degree, nerfing this made sense. I do think that x86S-like idea will resurface in a few years as that ISA is in dire need of some simplification and clean up. In particular the boot up process is very messy with x86S aiming to fix that. (AMD also has a commitment to open source firmware which throws a wrench into this and would need to be rewritten to support x86S.)
Both Zen 5 and Arrow Lake got nerfed hard by Windows 11 upon their launch. Peaking over to the Linux side of things, both Zen 5 and Arrow Lake were much closer to their advertised IPC increases. Zen 6 being 10% higher IPC does seem feasible if you look at where the instruction regressions were between Zen 4 and Zen 5: there were common instructions that when from single cycle to two cycle execution. If Zen 6 restores them to single cycle execution, that'll be a good performance jump right there. The bigger things for Zen 6 is going to be platform improvements with new packaging technologies and a new IO die. The Zen 6 X3D parts should really be something else.
Zen 5 Threadripper would be impressive with V-cache. However if you look at AMD's Epyc line up, there is a super expensive 16 core part with 512 MB of L3 cache which means each die only has a single core enabled. This is the closest you could get to V-cache performance without going 3D. And yeah, the real V-cache part like that with 16 cores would have 1536 MB of L3 cache which I don't see AMD formally releasing (a 32 or 64 core variant like that perhaps). Threadripper will just follow in Eypc's footsteps. Following AMD's release cadence, we'll see V-cache Epyc chips in February (ISSCC) and hopefully new Threadripper a month later for GDC.
Bartlett Lake should launch to DIY if only to be the replacement parts for the lineage of failed Raptor Lake cores. I think it'd be popular just on the merit of not requiring an entirely new platform. Motherboards are expensive and if tariffs kick in as proclaimed, full system upgrades will be priced out of the reach of many. If it can clock the same as Raptor Lake, it'd end up out performing Arrow Lake in many tasks.

I came up with a scenario where Nvidia would charge $249 for the 5060. ...So, Nvidia takes the already planned 5060 8gb card and turns it into a limited release to be sold directly from their
store at $249. They do this about a month before AIB partners come out with their own 12gb variants that will have an msrp ~$299 to $339. Doing this would drum up excitement for the
5060, and cause some people to think Nvidia are being benevolent in their pricing. In reality it's just a glorified paper launch that's used to gauge interest in a future re-release of an 8gb
5060 that would mirror the 3060 8gb in respective marketing and pricing. ...I'm not promoting this. Just saying that it's something Nvidia *might* do. Thoughts...?

4K 30fps is a complete waste of time for the Switch 2. They need to be able to run all their games at 60fps. And if that means dropping down to 1440p to do so, then i think that would be the better option. The only trouble with that though is that some TV's only do 1080p and 4K. Some TV's don't have 1440p in their EDID. If the Switch 2 was handheld only then 1080p 60fps would be more than enough. But it's not. It can be docked with a modern 4K TV so it NEEDS to be able to perform adequately at that resolution. Nintendo knows this.

AMD lacks in both software support (RocM is not supported on windows) and dedicated hardware (tensor cores) so, as a ML Engineer, I don't see a way that they can compete with NVIDIA on Deep Learning features, at least not on windows. PS5 Pro can make PSSR work because it runs on a unix based OS, where RocM is supported. Intel on the other hand gains massive ground on both software and hardware support, so, given the current state, it is more probable for intel to compete with NVIDIA, rather than AMD. Intel is not 100% there yet, but they are definitely on the right path, especially when it comes to Machine Learning.
