  • In this lecture , Load patterns are defined for dead ,superdead, live and earthquake(seismic) loads.
    LOAD PATTERN:
    A load pattern is a set of forces, temperatures, displacements and other effects, which act on a structure. Each load pattern is assigned a design load type (DEAD, LIVE, SNOW, WIND, QUAKE, etc.) which classifies the simulate the real computational requirements for structures. Designer can define as many as he required for the design of structures.
    --) Add New Load Pattern button.
    Step-1: Type the name of the load pattern in the Load Pattern Name edit box.
    Step-2:Select a load pattern type from the Type drop-down list.
    Note (i): Self Weight Multiplier
    The self-weight multiplier controls whether or not structural self-weight is included within a given load pattern. Typically, a self-weight multiplier of 1.0 is only assigned to the load pattern which represents the self-weight of the structure and multiplier of zero is assigned to all other load patterns.
    Note (ii): If the load Type specified is Quake, Wave or Wind, select an option from the Auto Lateral Pattern drop-down list.
    Step-3:Click the Add New Load Pattern button. If the load pattern type specified is Quake, Wave or Wind, note the text for the Modify Lateral Load Pattern button.
    --) For Seismic Load Pattern
    Step-1:Direction and Eccentricity options. Choose to specify the X or Y direction of the seismic loading, or to specify the direction with a percentage of eccentricity that is applicable to all diaphragms. Use the Ecc Ratio (All Diaph) edit box to specify a value for eccentricity. Five percent is the default and is entered as 0.05.
    Step-2:Story Range options. Choose the Top Story and Bottom Story to specify the elevation range over which the automatic static lateral loads are to be calculated. By default the bottom story is the base of the building and the top story is the uppermost level of the building.
    Step-3:Factors options. Use these edit boxes to specify the Base Shear Coefficient and the Building Height Exponent, K.

    Asslamualikum sir I have design with seismic x and y with a correct procedure but it only shows deformation shape only in x direction . In y direction it doesn't show anything plz tell me. Sir my second question I have etab 2016 ultimate 16.2.1. can I use it some people said that their is error in some version. Thank you

      W.Salam, dear, i myself using ETABS 2016 which is okay, i have not face any such issue........ I think when you have defined load pattern in Y-DIRECTION.... you have not selected for y-direction earthquake.....(please re-check your load pattern) ... if you still have issue.... please feel free to contact.

    For seismic Load what is the difference if i will use EX and check all 3 (ex, ex+y eccen and ex-y eccen) And the 1 u used Ex+ and check only ex+y eccen??? (Same with Y direction)

    if you apply a selfweight multiplier of 1.0 for super dead in etabs and run the same model with staad pro, the results are almost the same but when you make the selfweight multiplier 0 for super dead loads in etabs, the etabs results are far lower than that of staad pro, any reason for this?

    • @civilmdc
      @civilmdc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get exact results and come to conclusion... Which one is good....
      Perform manual and compare...

    Sir, can we define floor finish and wall load as 'Dead Load' with self weight multiplier as 'o'?

    Hello Sir,
    Would you explain how to apply vertical seismic force in ETABs model? As here IS Code is in practice this is mentioned in IS 1893:2016 Clause 6.3.3

      Hi, dear Bro, First of all , we ignore vertical component ,,,, because only Horizontal components are important for earthquake analysis.

    • @civilmdc
      @civilmdc  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For Equivalent frame method; there is no option for vertical component..... If you want to use vertical component than you have to perform TIME HISTORY ANALYSIS .

    • @Anujdt
      @Anujdt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@civilmdc Thank you sir,
      I found the option for UZ direction of force in Response Spectrum method in ETABs but since there is no vertical component in equivalent static method to scale it with, the only option remains is Time History analysis which is a bit tedious! I practice in IS code so.. Hope the IS code ellaborates more on the issue in the future publications!

      @@civilmdc On some Seismic Codes, it is required to take also vertical earthquake component into consideration, under some circumstances (e.g. on Eurocode 8, you should also calculate the vertical component, when there are columns which are not continuous to foundation)
