- Confidence and command of your classroom come from having a great teaching voice.
In this video, we cover all of the different problems that language teachers can have with their voices and a bunch of tips on how to get it right. A teacher's voice, your voice, is one of the most important teaching tools you have. This is especially true for language teachers. Most of your confidence, engagement, and understanding will come from your voice.
TTT, graded language, speed, lack of articulation, running commentary, along with a plethora of other qualities, can truly cause issues in your classroom. In the video, we investigate 7 different kinds of teachers with different qualities of voice mistakes. I then give out tips on how to improve your voice and truly make it part of your teaching tools. As always, thanks for watching!

I've been a teacher for about 23 years. I'm fully aware I'm an over-explainer, so I need to really, really work on that. Thanks for the content!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, even veterans of the industry struggle with this. Dang.
As teachers, we are advised to warm up our voice, there are useuful vocal exercises to go on daily. The voice is our most important tool, so, why not taking cate of it?

This is the most important video.
I loved this! I am from Canada and a little Inuit girl taught me another valuable lesson...facial expressions! After all, what percent is non-verbal in communication? At least 70%! After 15 years( + ) working with individuals with special needs, I can tell you, you can say a great deal with just facial expressions and body language!
You certainly can!
echoing (aka mirroring) is a good technique actually. you just show that you are listening to them and understand what they say simply repeating some words from their phrases. It encourages students to tell more.
I agree that it can have a purpose but it can also be overused especially by a teacher who is undertrained, inexperienced, or unsure of themselves as a teacher. With a student who is above the beginner level, it is better to reply normally as you would to a native speaker.
in modern methodology it is a bad thing, if you want to show your students that you are listening to them carefully just show it by asking more to just get along the conversation and above all show it by your gestures that you are listening to them, echoing is time wasting thing
You re right! But may be he meant not exagerating echoing making thus extra lge.
wowww awesome, you are a genius, these little things means a lot while taking a class, love your videos
Thanks, Dr!

Hi
Thanks for making such amazing and useful videos !
You had a video about eliciting , but I can't find it now in your channel !
I really really really need it !
Where can I find it ? 🥺
I am removing some of my old videos due to sound problems. I’m trying to redo a lot of the older content. I’m shootings a new eliciting video tomorrow and will have it edited shortly after that
@@TheLanguageHouseTEFL great ! Thanks
Sometimes I have a very hoarse voice. Not always, but could it disqualify me from teaching? Ironically, I was a vocal coach and choir director for many years.
I have a little bit of all these habits
I LOVE these Ukrainian flags behind 🎉 cheers from Ukrainian English teachers 😊
Thank you! 😃
