    lil secret: S-Enix has no real way of tracking if you used a parser so if you get dragged into the GM jail (14:50), just deny everything and you will be good. Admitting that you actually used a parser will be much more detrimental (let's keep this between ourselves)

      that's why a lot of players either play it safe and just don't use them, or if they do, advise you never to say anything in game directly (technically this goes the same for visual mods) as if you do, SE has chat logs as proof.

      I remember when I learned of parsers and asked my friends they all denied it in game. But on discord… heh
      Edit: Jesus Fucking Christ. Some people don’t like using parsers, other people like using parsers. As long as you’re not toxic it doesn’t matter. Parsers only add to the experience. It’s like, some people like coffee straight, others like coffee with milk. When coffee was created I doubt it was intended to be drank with milk. But milk adds to the experience, and people like it.
      So relax! Parsers are a good thing to have. You’re the one being toxic by pushing your ideology onto me.

    Another REAL important things for people to PLEASE do for their job...
    Please practice your Opener and rotation on a Training Dummy for a LONG period of time. A Extreme/Savage fights last a good 10 minutes when you first go into it, meaning you'll be repeating your rotation hundreds of time, and repeating your Burst phase (Similar to opener, with some tweaks) a good 5 to 8 times (Depending on your job) through out the fight. As much as learning and memorizing your Opener is important, hitting a training dummy a good 5 to 6 minutes straight to beat that rotation into your head naturally, knowing when your CD's come back and what lines up with up is very important to learning how not only to fully optimize, but to also be flexible with your rotation in almost any fight.
    Too many I know practice ONLY the opener, and tries to do extreme or early savage and soon mess up their rotation after the first 2 big mechanics, and rage that they don't know how to optimize/alter their rotation efficiently to pull off more damage. These people simply blindly follow a guide for openers, think they're doing amazing damage but fail realizing that its only for the first 30 seconds at eh START of the fight. By learning your opener, and then practicing your opener AND your rotation for long duration, you'll soon learn some jobs does very different things through out an entire Savage fight.
    So please, if you want to really learn how to do high DPS and optimize yourself to any fight, hit a training dummy for a long duration to muscle-memory your rotation.

    Not meeting DPS checks or things dying slowly is indeed a sign that DPS players aren't doing well.
    However, it's worth noting that it could also means tanks and healers aren't doing well either.
    It's everyones job to DPS, DPS players are just better equipped to deal damage.

    • @AlZahard

      if things are dieing slowly its not because tanks and healers are chipping in their 9k dps at the extreme top end its because the dps players are doing 5k dps instead of 30k..... pretty massive and incomparable difference when 1 dps player fucking off makes more of a diff than 2 healers doing absolute bis #s lol with i suppose the exception of savage but thats not something you're generally gonna notice a kill speed diff on IMO thats something youll more notice the 2% at the end that werent gone or your entire party dieing from a dps check not being met

    "It's rare other players will notice your rotation or whether you're playing your job optimally"
    I am that rare person that watches Black Mages like a hawk. It's weirdly one of my favorite things to do because it's easy to spot and is, in my experience, the most often poorly played job. Too often I see people in level 80 dungeons that still don't understand a proper Black Mage rotation. And I don't mean a simply sub-optimal rotation, but complete lack of understanding of the Umbral Ice and Astral Fire mechanic. Obviously I try to help them out, but it seems the higher level they are the less likely they are to listen or even respond.

    "is generally considered to be the most straightforward job to play"
    Dont mistake that for "easy" though. I tanked and dpsed quite a bit and tank is veeeeery easy in comparison. Tanks do the same (or sometimes even less) mechanics than dps, dont get punished that hard for every mistake (not every misstep kills a tank, a dps on the other hand...) and have a way easier rotation than most dps jobs. dps feels way harder to play than tank. Its just less resposibility, if you die, usually just you die. If you die as a tank, the raid might die.

    Little thing that some people seems to forget (maybe it's just the people I play with idk).
    Every melee dps have access to "Arm's length", which slows enemies that hit you by 20% when under the effect and nullifies knockback and draw-in effects. I know this because it helped me a lot not getting thrown off platforms during some Trials or even in normal dungeons.

    I measure my DPS proficiency by 1 not dying and 2 watching my rotations for drops. if i stay alive and don't drop rotations generally my DPS is at least good enough for 90% of the content. anything above that is generally micro managing your rotations and learning every mechanic to individual fights. there is obviously more nuance to gettin good but experience is king. if your a shit DPS today keep trying to improve and someday you might not be shit :D

    Easy fix:
    1. Pick up new class/job.
    2. Watch Wesk Alber’s 1-80 leveling skills guide for that class/job.
    3. All set, you now know your job’s play style, its skills and starter rotations per expansion.
    Endgame? Try The Balance discord. Doing this too soon will be overwhelming and not really help the average player doing progression. Its best for squeezing the most juice after you’ve already become comfortable with a job.

    Only thing I want to add to this is limit break is pretty situational in light party content. If you only have ranged/magical dps in the party save it for trash packs. If you don't have it for the boss or the boss is under 5% hp when you get it save it for trash packs if you have one ranged/magical or the next boss if you only have melee.
    Don't bother saving a level 1 limit break til you get to the final boss and can upgrade to a level 2, it's a waste of a limit break. You want to use it as soon as feasible. If you have a ranged/magical dps then a large trash pull is the best place but only if you don't have to save it for too long. And if you have melee only but get it with less than 5% health on the first boss of the dungeon, then save it and open the second boss with it instead. And if you have 2 ranged/magical then trash packs are the best place even if you have to wait on it through a boss fight.

      Hey man, raid anxiety is real. But know that in all my raid experience, it's rare that a DPS messing up their rotation ends up being the cause for a wipe. Damage as a whole is a shared responsibility among the whole party, and you get better as your practice. Join prog groups that have the expectations of everyone being new and you'll build the confidence needed. No one's gonna be like "zomg Corrodias sucks never raid again" - just focus on learning mechanics and your rotation, and you'll get there :)

By the time I actually reach content where it "matters", I'll be able to practice, and maybe it won't feel like such a big deal, then.

    • @AlZahard
      @AlZahard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's worth checking out Ilya's thoughts on it. He did the testing in a controlled environment, and actual raiding situations will often force you into a position where you'll lose DPS regardless since you're a melee so you might as well greed for the positional since you won't gain another GCD if you skip it.

    • @bophadesknutz7798
      @bophadesknutz7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That isnt entirely correct, I think Ilya may have also pointed this out in his video, but losing positionals on SAM is a big potency loss in an actual fight since you are losing Kenki and therefore losing Shintens, Kaitens, and maybe even a Senei, over the course of the fight. And SAM being one of those classes where optimization of small things like kenki is very important to be good. MNK tho the main reason it loses a lot of dps is because you NEED to get the back positional to get a bootshine crit, it is big portion of their dps.

    I know people might not think Stone, Sky, Sea is worth doing; however if youre on PS4 it still is a good way to check your dps since you cant use ACT. Its might take an extra step but basically you Fight the dummy for whatever fight you're doing or want to do, then you fight the dummy, if you can't kill it well your dps isnt good enough, if you do kill it, then you plug the time remaining from when you killed it into a Stone, Sky, Sea calculator (Azizarar). It actually gives a fairly accurate representation of your dps. For example, Lets say I pick e12s, fight the dummy as a SMN, kill it at 29 seconds remaining then plug that into the calculator and it'd tell me my dps was 22,405, what ACT will tell me is that my DPS is a 22,399.5. So not really too far off. If you really want to get your true DPS you can take the number you get and multiply it by 1.05, which is the 5% party bonus.
    its what I used on PS4 until I switched to PC

    • @AlZahard

    So just one point missed the game does have a meter of sorts to tell you if you’re doing good dmg which is the stone sky sea/the lawn. This has a timer and hp that directly correlate to a high end boss encounter. It’s essentially on a 2 min enrage timer except you don’t die. This is still a far cry from a proper meter but if you don’t feel like breaking tos this is a viable in game “measure” of your dps.

    • @AlZahard
      @AlZahard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I gotta disagree. The Stone, Sky, Sea dummies (+ Circles / Lawns) fail as a DPS gauge for a bunch of reasons. You don't have to do any fight mechanics so your entire DPS output is purely theoretical, especially for healers and tanks. It doesn't even give you a performance indicator beyond killing it within 3 minutes - you even need to manually note your clear time for it to measure for any improvement. It's fine as a test of whether someone is theoretically capable of doing enough damage over 3 minutes, but it doesn't even tell us how much %HP of the boss' health its simulating, making it useless for premade groups.

  • @HayTatsuko
    @HayTatsuko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    YES! 100% THIS! The real secret to decent DPS? Avoid the mechanics. Faceplanting = 0 DPS. BLM needs to adjust, not the healer(s). RDM is there for some damage and a ton of bacon saving (SMN more damage, also bacon saving). If there is a melee DPS let them use the LB. No Melee? Let ranged physical DPS use that instead. Caster LB is the LAST RESORT for a single boss, but fine for boss+adds.
    Do your rotation properly, or even improperly if avoiding mechanics wrecks your roll. Do your best, it will work out as long as others are doing the same.
    Also RDM rotation is not only one of the simplest in the game, it's also got some great OGCDs -- if you are not using Fleche and Contre Sixte you are doing it wrong. The melee combo once you get 80/80 on your gauge is more finesse because you have to get in close and personal, but you also have Displacement to get away... or fly off the edge. There's no random to it, it's just a matter of deciding single-target vs. AoE, and not vaulting off the combat arena to your doom with scary Displacement.

    Small nitpick, but in the ranged phys mitigation portion where you show the troubadour, shield samba, and tactician icons, that icon is not the current tactician icon. It's the old tactician (which both bard and machinist had) that was an aoe TP regen. It could be confusing to new players (especially those that would want tips on how to get better) to see that and not find it in their action list lol.
    Also something important that I see a lot of people not do in the game is actually using LB. Yes it's big and flashy and takes time to charge, but it should be treated as any other cooldown and be actually used. There's no point in holding LB until the very end of an encounter if you've been sitting on LB2 or LB3 for an extended period of time especially in dungeons where good usage of ranged or caster LB can make trash packs melt significantly faster.

      It's quite easy to do: Look at the circle around your target. The open space on the backside counts as behind. So skills that require hitting from behind should be executed in this space. If you need to hit from the side for your attack then go around the enemy until you leave this open spot. Then you are on the side.
      Or even easier: Imagine a compass on your target. The arrow in front is north and in the middle of the open spot aon the backside is south. Skills with more damage from behind always in the south and skills for the flanks alsways from west or east. And never ever stand in the north, except you are the tank or are alome in the overworld questing XD

      @AlZahard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, I've been getting this question a lot so I'll do a video on it soon.
      But primarily: my party list is moved closer to the center as I've been healing a lot. I move it out to the edge (and make it smaller) when I tank or DPS. I have 3 primary hotbars for spells (reduced in size and moved closer together). I have a hotbar next to my party list, with a macro aligned to each party member's icon that allows me to cast Rescue on click in case I need to pull someone towards me.
      On the left side of the screen, above the hotbars, I have my own info: health, cast bar, buffs and debuffs. Debuffs are scaled to like 120% because they're important to see.
      On the right side above my hotbars, I have the target's information. The targets buffs and debuffs are above their health bar, and if I had the option I'd separate the two but SE doesn't let you do that. Above the target's buffs I have their cast bar scaled to 200%, mainly because healers often react based on what's being cast.
      The rest around the sides is just the usual hotbars for mounts, consumables, macros and menu items. My objective was to move as much of the information into the bottom third of my screen to free up more screen space so I can actually see the fight mechanics. Also, I have my 3rd Person Camera Angle (found in Character settings) set to roughly 40-50. This also allows me to see more of the battlefield.

    I agree but also disagree that dps is the job with the least difficulties attached to it. If you are only going to do normal content, then yes. But if you are looking to dish out the most damage possible, and clear all savage and ultimates, then dps is way harder to play than tank (exept physical range). The "extra responsabilities" you have as a tank is really nothing, and i can't go back to gunbreaker after really trying to do the best i could on dps. Way less forgiving, harder to perform well, and you don't have less responsabilities than a healer or a tank in proper high level content. I do belive that normal content should have more mechanics tied to dps, and more dps chacks that really matters, because the jumps between normal and even extrême is brutal.

    • @AlZahard
      @AlZahard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's funny, I had comments almost exactly like this but from the healer/tank perspective on my other videos. At the end of the day it comes down to what jobs you're most comfortable on and what you play the most. In ultimate raids, all jobs have high measures of difficulty attached to them. Most triple legends I know will tell you that DPS is the easiest for Ultimate, unless they're tanks, then they'll tell you healing is easier.
      The jump from normal -> extreme -> savage is huge indeed. I do agree that normal content needs to be harder across the board, especially dungeons.

      @@AlZahard I should have made more clear it was a personal opinion, reading my comment back, it's not conveying well what i tried to say properly : I find that more often than not, you will find people that haven't tried anything harder than normal, tell you dps is easier because you don't have to do anything to care but yourself and have no responsabilites. But when you are engaging in the real hard content you know that to be completely wrong, because normal content don't give enough room for dps players to really matter, and i found it's a shame. and what i meant by "harder to play" "harder to perform well" was more related to strictly execution of the rotation and doing damage, not the execution of the fight and other thing you have to worry as a tank. Because you would be completely right to say that there is no such thing as an easy job in high level, and that it comes down to personal preference and affinity. the "extra responsabilites are nothing" i said, came across wrong. I ment that it's not that big of a deal some ppl makes it to be, and is more of a contraint (like casting, positionals, adjusting to damage variance/avoidable damage not avoided, and animation locks) that you have to play around, that you don't have more to do, or that it matters more.

    Oh thank god there is a DPS meter! I'm a WoW player trying FF for free, and even Im still low level (42) I want to see my damage growing and I want to train rotation on dummies. Thank you!
    Well, I mean, What? DPS addon? What are you talking about, I never heard that before...

    Tip for BLM ❄🧙🏽‍♀️🔥 players: USE YOUR AETHERIAL MANIPULATION AND BETWEEN THE LINES (weaving them in between instant GCDs if possible). In boss fights and even dungeons with aoes, you can stand somewhere far-ish from a better-positioned teammate and it'll add up in saving dps ordinarily lost via movement, when you've gotta haul a** away from the big ugly orange/blue. I see a lot of BLMs *running* away from aoes and missing a whole (hardcast) GCD or more. Honey, you're magical. ✨ You can zoom zoom.

    just spent an hour in ramuh extreme all 4 dps where sprouts all 4 where dead b4 add phase every pull and at one point a dps saw i was picking up orbs so they though they should too so then there wasn't enough for the buff to survive the tankbuster (i feel it a wow refugee thing they are too used to the toxic wow playerbase that if your party finds out you are new or don't know a fight you just get kicked from the party cus it was about 30 min b4 any of em even spoke up about not understanding what to do) resounding facepalms from the 3 non sprouts who started the fight with a message in chat of "do any of you not know what to do or need help understanding something" that was met with silence......

    Hi! great video. One place I found good to practice slide casting on casters is PoTD when soloing. Nobody else is around and you can control the pulls and use sides of room and hallways to practice when you kite a mob. My target dummy is a little cramped in my yard so I went to PoTD to practice. Or HoH.
    Personally, I don't mind SE's "don't ask don't tell" policy, it doesn't make me mad (although I feel bad for controller players yes.) For me playing without a meter feels like I am playing blind especially in a new MMO. That is just because of old habits. Not being able to talk about it in public gave me the freedom to learn to read logs to improve myself not just throw numbers around in some verbal shouting match. I upload the logs but I keep them private unless I am in a group where logging is taken for granted.
    lol at Desperius. Also great tip below that SE cannot tell if you are using a meter or not so no need to out yourself on this.

    • @AlZahard
      @AlZahard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I practiced slidecasting on every boss fight as a healer because it wouldn't break any rotations or combos if I messed up - it simulates the raiding environment a bit better since there are more mechanics to dodge with it. I agree with feeling blind without a DPS meter, which seems to be standard in most other MMOs. I like having performance indicators I can use to improve, and the game just doesn't have many. SE can't tell if you're parsing because ACT just reads your local network data and doesn't interface with the game in any other way, so the deny-deny-deny strategy is good for sure.

    I've been seeing epidemics of terrible Black Mages lately. Not knowing how to side cast as BLM really hurts the DPS. I see majority of BLM would prioritize movement or even stop midcast to panicky move around the area.

      Dropping a cast is the casters' curse unfortunately. Slidecasting can be really tight to get right depending on your ping D:

      Oh don't worry the average dps player in PF parses below average anyway and you always get 1 or 2 ppl that carry dps, if you even have the slightest shred of motivation to actually get better by practicing a ton your rotation on a dummy and watching guides enough to understand mechanics you'll be on top most of the time (in PF). Even then, you'll play like shit at first, fail, wipe, some ppl may get salty and leave but that's on them, not on you. This game is not difficult (you can be a triple legend with grey parses everywhere, you still cleared) and if you bash your head against a fight for long enough you'll clear it, it may just take a long time and it's okay, it's a GAME, at worst you'll what, get kicked out of PF and blacklist a few ppl? Big deal. Although realistically we're so overgeared now dps checks barely exist anymore. Also to answer your other question the graph is indeed wrong, it's all 90°'s.
