Bill Bixby made sure Betty made it into her seat safely, which was so wonderful, but Allen's "Thank you Bill", was even more so! Such respect by the men not just to the women, but to each other! So glad I was a youngster when this was still prominent, I got to witness it all the time; most impressionable!

I miss that too! I hope it comes back, but I have my doubts. Whenever I watch these I wish I could just go back and live in that time instead of this miserable abomination of the future those people would never imagine America could become. So sad. But thank you, dear lady, for remembering how gentlemen behaved and women deserved to be treated.

Who is having a sentimental flashback watching the commercials in this episode! OMGOSH as a latchkey elementary school kid of the early ‘70’s, TV was my comfort zone every day. The Pledge commercial almost made me cry with nostalgia. Thanks for preserving and sharing these golden oldie gameshows!!

It is so surprising and touching to see Richard Dawson -- the ultimate Mr. Cool on Match Game -- so EMOTIONAL on this show! The stakes were high and he cared about the charitable organization. He talked about it many years later on his Television Academy interview. He played in the family week Password episodes with his son Mark. (Film date: February 3, 1974) Has anyone seen those episodes? There are photos on Getty Images; they played against other parent-child combos of Jack Cassidy, Florence Henderson and Helen Reddy. (Updated: I thought it was Dawson's son Gary, but I'm pretty sure now it was Mark, his older son.)

I think it was having to hand out the "wallets" to the players, especially the civilian contestants on the ends of the table, which aggravated Allen Ludden's stomach against the inside of the podium. The podium was eventually padded for Allen, but he soon succumbed to stomach cancer, which was the real reason for his stomach pain.

+Robert Lopresti It's just a 3M Datavision, which if some stations used it would be more for slates than for actual programming (unless they couldn't afford it). I guess ABC charged more for a Chyron and Goodson wanted something more computer-generated looking than a Chyron. (Otherwise, Goodson resisted character generators on his shows for years.)

But that wasn't the first time that Betty kissed Allen's hand. Betty had kissed Allen's once before and it was on password plus. But i think as far the gaze i think that Betty always look at Allen i think that it was the way that Betty at Allen and i think that Allen look at Betty in that way.

This show aired February 1, 1975. At the end, Allen Ludden is plugging his appearance on the Wide World of Entertainment presentation of "It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman" that evening ("Superman musical").

Brad Jones of the "Cinema Snob" reviewed that godawful "Superman" musical, and so does Emer Prevost did in his "Reaction & Review" a few years back. "Superman: The Musical" was the worst musical ever when it was on TV.

That was indeed Rose Marie -- she was the Pledge spokeswoman for years. Richard Dawson, of course, worked with her on the Dick Van Dyke show in the very funny and memorable "Racy Tracy Rattigan" episode. He also worked extensively on Hogan's Heroes with Noam Pitlik, who is the "dad" in the Formula 409 commercial on this tape! Noam Pitlik was on at least seven Hogan's Heroes episodes that I can think of, including the pilot, "The Informer."

@@BradenPedigo During normal episodes, there was a qualifying round where two celebrities would sit across four more. The first two would take turns giving out clues to the other four, and they would ring in. If that one gets the password right, they earn a point. First two to get two points goes on to play Password itself. Unfortunately, no other All-Star episodes have been seen so the best way to see it in action is the slightly altered Password ‘75.

Sorry. I was alive in 1979. You can't pin inflation on Ford. Remember the "Misery Index"? And the "malaise speech"?
You can try all you want but FACTS are FACTS.
Why do you think Carter LOST in 1980?

    • @marciacarson676
