I am not really fan of this type of music but somehow hardstyle has special place in my heart due to it's distinct style amongst the other subgenres of trance music or more like hard trance. Yes hardstyle was also known as hard trance before. It was developed due to the influence of different genres such as hardhouse and mainly hardcore. Since there was a revolution of different genres of dance music, around 2004-2006 hardstyle already created its own independent style which is now called early. As a result, it was separated from the hard trance genre. It is also the beginning of more uplifting melodies.
So it is a genre of EDM characterized by heavy bass and high BPM counts, typically in the range of 150. It lacks the fluidity of trance, which is the main characteristic that distinguishes it from hard trance. It sounds much like hardcore albeit at (relatively speaking) slower BPM counts.
This type of music is is currently in favor of many European countries, especially Holland. Parties/raves that play hardstyle music include Qlimax, Q-Base (Q-Dance), and Sensation Black (ID&T). Often confused with hard house, hard trance, psy trance or hardcore, its creation was intended to be a refined combination of the other harder styles, and to create a more crowd friendly hard dance scene.
The most influential artists of Hardstyle include : The Prophet, Zany, Technoboy, Headhunterz, Pavo, Dana, Luna, Noisecontrollers, Isaac, D-Block and S-Te-Fan, Tatanka and Blutonium boy and the Biggest Hardstyle raves and festivals are mainly held in the Netherlands.
