  • For Labor Day weekend, Monica, David, Diamond, and myself went on a quick backpacking trip to the Golden Trout Wilderness. We were lucky enough to find a great campsite with not many people around. I was able to catch a few Golden Trout out of Nine Mile Creek. We also checked out Bald Mountain Fire Lookout Tower on the way home. The Golden Trout Wilderness has so much more to explore and I can't wait to get back out there.

      @@HuckOutdoors Sometime you might want to try McGee Creek from 395 all the way down to Crawley Lake. Half way down it confluences with Convict Creek. From there on down to the lake it's huge browns all the way. There is NO cover so you have to be stealth when moving up to the creek. Creep up to it and kneel to fish. Then when moving down stream walk out away from the stream till you get to where you want to fish next. Then creep up to the steam and cast. I've broken more than one rod there on big browns.

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't fished McGee creek in almost 20 years! I need to go back there and fly fish it sometime after the confluence.

    Well, not EXACTLY wilderness, if some rancher's outlying herd is up there! But, things could be worse--as Johnnie Muir absolutely hated domestic SHEEP, to be in these areas. Funny thing 'bout the East Kern Plateau country . . . back in '76, I was a firefighting crewmember, for the USFS's Blackrock Tanker Crew, out of Blackrock Ranger Station! That was so looonngg ago, that they were still using WW II-surplus B-17's ("Twelve O'clock High"/Memphis Belle), as Retardant Bombers! Surprisingly nimble they were for such big airplanes--they could tuck in really close to the ground, to hit those fires, very hard, with their salvos, then pull up 'n' out like planes a Fifth their size! And, sonufagun, I went up to Bald Mountain, too, on one of my days off! The gal up there was married to one of the Patrol Technicians--kinda "junior" Rangers--except they didn't have full Peace Officer Qualifications, with Firearms, Jurisprudence, & Hand-To-Hand. They were fairly nice acquaintances, for the few short weeks that I knew them. Back then, it was even MORE, out in the middle of nowhere. I'd guess that Domelands, were the Southernmost advance, of the big Ice Age glaciers. Those cabins, could now be a Century-and-a-Half years old! How did Diamond handle the Coyotes? As Wolves progress in their re-propagation, from the Northernmost Sierra/Southeasternmost Cascades, they could be back in these parts a Half-Century from now. They would be remote descendants of the reintroduced packs of Yellowstone.

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ranch hasn't been used in probably 30-40 years. The old cabins were old ranger cabins. I would love to explore the domeland some time soon! Diamond just stayed close to Monica, and really didn't pay much attention to the yelps of the coyotes. Thanks for sharing your story of your time up there!

    Great video, you were just a few miles from where I caught 15 and 18 inch goldens last year. Did I see you break a fly rod in an earlier video ? If you haven’t replaced the rod yet, let me suggest looking at Moonshine Fly Rods, great rods at excellent prices, I own 3 of their rods.

      15-18 Inch goldens! You have my attention! lol I'll check the moonshine rods out. The rod I snapped was a Cabelas rod, which should be covered under their warranty.
