I really couldn't be happier that Costa took the direction he did. Unfamiliar Faces was epic, no doubt, but his rise in popularity presented dangerous potential for Matt to fall into a less creative spotlight. His songwriting is as strong as ever and I'm digging the retro/donovan feel. He's got a knack for finding a consistent album theme, this record is going to be an acquired taste for most but it will stand, proudly, with the rest of his work. Can't wait to see what he's got going next.
The album's been out for a year now and it's safe to say that it's my favorite album of his. I went through a phase for quite some time where I was listening to it everyday, he's captured the landscape perfectly in his songwriting. It may feel a little disparate to the rest of his catalog, but it's definitely still Matt.
Sometimes dissecting music is... fascinating. We don't have to understand it, but we want to be able to hear and grasp what makes us so excited and emotional. And I think dissecting music can make better musicians. But... I don't really think you and I have the same definition of dissecting, in this regard.
@inlinekidk2 Totally agree. I hated it at first, and now its growing on me just a tad. Its strange how drastically his style of music has changed from the last two albums.
all these peeps dissecting musicians and all like "oh he's that! oh he's this now! oh oh oh!" will ya'll CHILL yer big Os omg seriously its just fuckin awesome music, no need to come up n act all scientific on it.
its sad....no one LISTENS to music anymore, they just dissect it and describe it but music is creative, mysterious and not to be blabbed about like it's a frog on a lab table. there...i think i'm done now. gimme those thumb downs.

Definitely my favorite song by him.

i like the old matt costa better
These lyrics are taken from a Bob Lind song called Go Ask your Man. The original is vastly better, in my view.
