I was 4 in 61 I love watching all these old clips and think back when our family would have our dinners like this. Nothing can bring back values like they had in the 40s, 50s , 60s family was everything.
I was born in 61. But I still enjoy these video's. I remember dinners at my grandmother's house when I was about 4. We lived in Ohio then. My mom was from Ohio. Daddy from Alabama. We moved to Alabama before I turned 5 was raised there. I sure missed my sweet grandparents.
I love this. It was wonderful being born and raised in those times. The world has gotten so far away from family gatherings like this. You had to dress proper for such events.
I was born in 1961 and appreciate this error. I used to shin shoes in the local bars . Times have changed I love my childhood and wouldn’t change a single thing
Lucky you-- getting to sit at the kid's card table. I honestly had to sit by myself and eat on the kitchen pull out breadboard...facing the sink full of dirty pots & pans! Ah, holiday memories!
Really nice video. We were in Missouri, little has changed (we still are in Missouri). We don't eat turkey anymore. We were fed turkey till (oh my) we about croaked. Ribs/roast/beans and ham anything but turkey. And oh yes, we sat at the card tables and ate. Please note the term tables (plural), as when my family got together it took 3 card tables to feed the kids (not kidding). Thank you for posting your video !!
I was a little over one month old when it was Thanksgiving 1961. I was probably given pablum as feeding babies soft foods was ok back then. Mmm that turkey looked so good though. I need to make that soon for dinner.
I was 8 in ‘61 & the only difference was I was in Louisiana. Ever notice in these older videos people are of a healthy normal, dare I say slim weight? And children are happily playing, not made to feel in the way. Lovely memories.
There was a time when celery was considered a "posh" or special food, and was served at fancy meals. This New England family was carrying on the old tradition, I suppose.
It was a common raw "relish" served after rich meals to aid in digestion....common in British/European cultures and carried on in the States. Italians use raw fennel....helps to digest meals
Very nice...I was only 3 in 61...but..reminded me of my families 60s Thanksgivings..I enjoyed getting out those special pieces of silver. pewter or fancy glass candy dishes you only used for holidays or company...cute kids...nice family..thank you...
I was 8 years old in 1961 and my hair was cut like the the older girl. I think it was called the pixie cut. Thanksgiving was a dress up occasion back then. Not so much now. Maybe that will change. I loved watching!
I was 1 in SC then. Imagine telling them that in November 2024 people will be watching this on computers. Thank you for sharing Polly.
Beautiful. Thanks.

My memories start at about 2 yrs old. I was 3 then and can remember Thanksgiving. I still have and use a kitchen table my dad bought at Sears in 1960.
So fun and I'm hungry 👏💟
They where the grand days when morals and values where too on most families to do lists
Yeah right 🤣💀
Love this
All the kids got to sit at the table. I always hated ending up at the kid's card table. Loved seeing this video.

We always had the kid table in the kitchen. Liked it better
Actually quite relaxing to watch. The kids all dressed up so cute. Everyone worked together preparing the meal ❤
House hasn’t changed much
Enjoyed seeing that Polly
Good memories

This isn't my family and I don't even know who these people are, but I watched it like Clark Griswold stuck in an attic.
What a great family, those kids looked like dolls, so cute!
My grandmother always had a nut cracking bowl lol Love that.
But you do still see the dangers in these videos
Dare I ask...dangers?🤔
they didn't say grace
They probably didn't film that part. Dad was probably leading the prayer.🙏

Thanksgiving from 1961, music from 1861!
Omg I wasn’t around then but I have candle holders serving dish and silver chafing dish Exsactly like the one in this video ❤️
What's up with the celery?

Me too…
Yup, went from ringlets to the Pixie cut. Always dressed up for holidays.
Hey, you stole all of our grammas!!
3:30 LOLL
I guess dad hadn't taught junior about firearm safety yet. 😂
The women were thin back then and children were not misbehaving or terrorizing dinner! 😳
That’s because they were not fed GMO corn! Also the kids got a good beating!
