My 3 foot by 6 foot unit output 70C of warm air and I installed it straight on my southern facing wall. It heats up my bedroom nicely. Even when cloudy it increase the interior temperature inside the unit by 10C. It worked so well I made a 6 foot by 6 foot unit who has a output of 95C. It cooked the electric fan in the top ventilation hole so I move the fan to the bottom hole. Free heat is great!
Hi Aaron ! Do you have any pictures of your heater? I am interested in making one of these and I would like to know if you have any particular recommendations. If you want to share some pictures of the project or any recommendation feel free to contact me on my email e.yanni.d@ gmail.com. Thanks!
@@emmanuelyanni5148 Good afternoon Emmanuel, here is a video I made last year in February showing my 6 foot x 6 foot unit in operation with an output of 95 C (200 F). th-cam.com/video/7S8CWsIcK20/w-d-xo.html While the outside temperature was just above freezing with February snow on the ground, the internal heat in the dining room averaged 3C to 6C increase of temperature over 4 hours of solar heat. Daily operation: at arm's length roughly 6 feet high daily remove the 4" round wooden insulated ventilation plugs: top and bottom. Then click on the little electric duct fan in the bottom hole for increased air circulation through the heating solar air house heater unit. It's important to keep things simple and controllable by individual citizens. Done nicely with good, clean and sealed insulation most if not all can become far more energy self sufficient. And self sufficiency is a good sign of prosperity and peace. Growing food, commerce, business and growing trees and sharing fruits and vegetables, even flowers. Ok, to build a solar air heater we need a large shelter: basement, dining room (ask the wife first), garage, workshop or lean to roof. We'll need 2 low and long dresser drawers of the same height..or not. We are building a large, flat, solid work shop bench. Let's double my current workshop bench. Install plywood in the back for structural support. Fit nicely and pre-drill with 1/8 drill bit before the wood screws. On top, center a full sheet of 3/4" plywood on top of each dresser drawers. Along the outside bottom edge rip 2x4 for screwed in supporting 2 x 2's. These 2x2's support the plywood shoulders making it solid when the outside plywood corners collect to 45 degree bottom legs of more 2x2's collecting nicely to similar bottom railing for solid structure. With two of these sturdy, solid work bench tables, we can put them together forming a really large work table...perhaps move everything out of the dining room for a week or two...maybe a month or two. Join these tables together with another full 2 sheets of 3/4 plywood at 90 degrees on top connecting the tables. Then under the bottom lips of the plywood corners to connect the tables structurally together we can bolt full and long 2x4's connecting corner to corner of the united tables. Connecting these horizonal corners and middle rails being structural supported by vertical or 45 degrees 2x2's screwed into the bottom railing of the dresser drawers. This table is huge. Its 8 foot long by 8 foot wide. Strong and solid. Now we need some angle iron, metals and tools. Buy 2 pieces or 4 pieces of 8 foot long with 1" or 2" width steel angle iron. We need to embed this steel angle iron flush into the top edges of this huge table. With this corner we will bend our steel box to house and hold the solar air heater. Embed the angle iron with screws and then use a sanding disk on a grinder to flatten the heads...sparks in the dining room...fire extinguisher nearby before starting and clear area before...and ear plugs and of course safety glasses. What size of solar air heater do you want or need? How much heat do you want? What's the size of your southern sunny wall? Want to start small? Or go straight for big? Is drilling two holes in my house water safe? How does it all fit together? I recommend we start with measurements: size of rooms to be heated, size of available solar wall space, insulation R value of attic, walls and floor.
@@aaronvallejo8220 Aaron, thank you very much for your explanation. I will take all your recommendations into account when I start doing the work. Initially, my idea is to make a heater that allows me to increase the temperature of my bedroom. It is between 25 and 30 m2. The bedroom walls facing the outside are normal cement and brick walls, while the two interior walls are made of plaster and expanded polystyrene. The temperature in Montevideo in winter is between 5 and 10ºC. The place that I have available to place the heater is the roof of the house, since the walls do not get sun all day. Would you recommend any particular size to make the heater? Thank you very much for your reply. Regards. Emmanuel
IF YOU MAKE A HOLE IN THE WALL TO LET THE AIR IN, DURING THE DAY OR ON SUNNY DAYS IT IS WONDERFUL, BUT WHAT HAPPENS AT NIGHT WHEN THERE IS NO SUN AND THE TEMPERATURE IS COLDER, DOESN'T IT BOTHER YOUR BEDROOM BY FREEZING?
Just a thought and not criticizing. Since air follows the path of least resistance and the perimeter of the box is sealed, the need to tightly seal all gaps between cans and can holders, top and bottom, likely provide very small returns in efficiencies. Likely having just enough silicone to hold them all together is sufficient.
These can based solar collecters are attractive - trash to saving cash. BUT! Now these have been installed for years, the oxidized Bisphenol A liners of the can/collecter should be considered. Bisphenol A dust in the building and the noxious chemical which can be blown through a units should be measured. In places where people have been exposed for years, the endocrine, neoplastic and neurologic diseases associated with these chemicals, along with other rare maladies, should be measured.
I would prefer that you talk and give the information rather than make us guess at bits of it ... maybe it is clear to those who already know, but it is confusing for those of us who dont!
Really great idea it's not better that inlet Air to frame it also connected to room it's become air circulation anyway appreciate your efforts May Allah bless you Ameen
You did it right. Did the same then later sold my home. The next owner cast all it out. My home was a pleasant 85° in January. And every ° was a victory. To save money I couldn't spare as my wife died. And had less income. Now on good pension. And warm enough now . Use the sun it's free heat.
Real men use beer cans instead of soft drink cans. Just teasing. I would make a couple of suggestions. First the unit needs to be insulated. Instead of aluminum frames I used two layers of 1/2" foil faced styrofoam. Very rigid. Mine is a thermoplane. It draws inside air in and heats it then convection blows heated air into the house. It raises incoming air temp by forty to fifty degrees F. Saving money I used corrugated green house panels for the glazing. The cans I glued together with construction adhesive. I've used mine for five years now and it paid for itself the first winter. You're wasting a lot of heat if you're heating outside air instead of recirculating inside air through it.
Have had mine going for 4 winters now and haven't had any problem. But mine is further up in the lead hose by about 6 inches. Just tested the speed and it is same as when I started so yeah. Besides if it ever does go out there's a lot of them for free😊
It is a Great idea but I need it during winter's nights, witch i think does not work, right !? As my location is in north africa, basically freezing cold just during the winters nights, i think it will not help ! Is that right !? help me with your opinions and ideas please thanks ;)

I have one box a little smaller than his, (yes it's homemade) but with 3 hoses spaced evenly at floor level in a 1000 sq ft home. Take the time to do it if need be and you'll never be sorry 😊
Personally I maxed out my attic, wall and floor insulation to hold on to this precious day time heat which for my unit adds heat between 10 am to 6pm on sunny days. After which I have electric floor slabs which emit gentle and even heat onto my bedroom, living and library. I also have 2 small electric heaters I use most winter evenings. For back up and entertainment I use my fireplace to burn yard wood.
A fan is not needed and will likely cool down the unit faster than it gets hot. Go passive instead, warm air rises so all air that sits in the unit want to go up and therfore draw cold air into the unit from the bottom, like a standard heating radiator.

What you are doing is using the infrared spectrum of light to heat the cans. You could use just a black box to warm up the air inside a closed system. You won’t get the same results but it will be warmer than the temperature surrounding the box. That is why you use in this case aluminum cans. Not only are you adding surface area to gather more rays but using a better conductor. As long as you make sure the surface of the box is clear of leaves snow etc then it just works. No different than the inside of the car sitting in the sun. It is the same concept.
The thing is if it's hot and sunny outside why on earth you will want to sit inside your house, which basically makes the whole effort useless. Thanks for sharing though.

hola este diseño para que area podria ser empleado. Esta interesante, cuanto de potencia tiene los paneles solares y cuanto es el flujo de aire
How to connect to that fan from the cans
MashaAllah great
Thanks dear
The output temperature will go down eventually. A larger surface area and lower air flow through the cans can maintain the heat.
The temperature does go down over the years caused by maybe dust perhaps. The bigger the unit the better and more heat output.
