That's not how this works. Non-essential travel is restricted, not all travel. Approach the border and tell them you're moving or you were visiting at the time of border closure and you'd be allowed to pass with no trouble.

It’s very safe. Do not lock front doors, leave keys in the cars. But you have to plane everything. Car breaks down you have to order the part. Then there is 1 mechanic. The ones who live here made that choice. I will never move away. You wake up to eagles, deer, raccoons, bunnies, the Fire Chief is amazing. People are starting to buy property and homes here.

Why should another country make exceptions for Americans? Nobody on earth treats people like we do at our borders. I'm an auto transporter and have been to Point Roberts. Several years ago I picked up a couple of Rolls Royces from the '30s and took them to Los Angeles. One of the cars didn't run and the owner of the cars called the golf course manager who sent over 4 teenagers to help push the car on. Very friendly people. I got a kick out of being on the road with the US on one side and Canada on the other.
Nobody quite knew where the 49th parallel went when the border dispute with British Canada was settled oh so long ago. Maps weren’t accurate enough to show this peninsula was in the way and would be sliced off.

In Point Roberts we easily convert between liters and gallons, kilometers and miles, Celsius and Fahrenheit. All of our businesses also accept American and Canadian currency except for the Post Office.

If this place becomes a part of Canada, it would've been a better place for all the residents. Resilience is a good thing but I agree with the police officer, sometimes it makes people forget that you exist just because they think you are too resilient. This applies even to us individuals. OK, a few things. First of all, the gas prices you all are envious of are posted per litre, not per gallon (a nod to our Canadian customers). Multiply it times 4 approximately. Secondly, during normal times, those of us who have lived here for many years have accepted that crossing the border for medical services, etc. is the price we pay for a safe, quiet, naturally unspoiled place to live. It is not for everybody, as it requires the patience to sit in a line at the border to run the most mundane of errands. There is no Starbucks or McDonalds; there is no such thing as Next Day mail. I have to cross the border if I want to get something dry cleaned! Over the years, we have seen plenty of people move here and after 3 months. they are gone, because they just couldn't stand the inconvenience the border represents. The issue for us is the government's definition of "essential". Clearly, front line workers cross daily as they are needed to do their jobs, but picking up one's latest Amazon purchase or mowing the lawn of your summer home are not considered essential by the TWO federal governments involved. Those who govern both Washington State and British Columbia are in favor of exceptions because they understand our local economy better than their federal counterparts.
I'm formerly a Blaine, WA resident. The Point Roberts children are bused to Blaine daily for school. About 45 mins each way if I remember correctly. Point Roberts is a beautiful place but there are a lot of inconveniences to living that remotely.
The packages makes sense. I have friends who came to u.s every few months and would return with a suitcase full of items they shipped to their u.s addr
Because the Border Patrol will hunt you down, and may decide to arrest you for doing that. They have cameras and sensors to detect human presence all along that "yellow barrier." Someone recently decided to be "cute" and order Doordash food from Canada to be handed over the barrier, and the driver is now in deep... you know what.
“Jumping” the border changed after 9/11, there’s a piece of the border in Maine that runs down the curb line of a street, the street is in the US, the houses are in Canada, to leave your own house and come back home you need to go to the nearest checkpoints, otherwise you’re illegally entering either nation. The only exemption, the golf course has is parking lot on the wrong side of the line, but you can park and play without using the checkpoint since there’s no other real way off the golf course but back out into the parking lot across the street. There’s also a town in Vermont where the borderline cuts houses and a library in half.

95 percent of the US isnt in lockdown and has not been in lockdown since june of 2020. The only states in lockdowns still are really liberal coastal states and obviously Canada because of how nutty they are. Here in MIssouri, (and almost every other state in the country) has had schools, bars, restaurants, etc. open since last summer. I’ve been to Pt Roberts a few times. It is a beautiful location but all of Puget Sound and the surrounding bodies of water are beautiful. That Canadian woman complaining about not being able to visit her summer home needs to get a grip. Calling it “like a death” is disgraceful in light of how many have actually died from covid.
Clearly a man made problem here. Why can't the state departments of both countries get together and say: for a certain period (until covid ends) Point Roberts residents will be considered Canadian for travel into and out of Canada and good and services can enter from Canada.

The Northwest Angle in the very northern tip of Minnesota is in the same situation. They have made an "ice road" across the Lake of the Woods but it's getting that time of year when the ice melts. They do not have a grocery store. Just resorts for fishing and such. I have no idea how they have been making due through this mess.

I'm an auto transporter and have been to Point Roberts. Several years ago I picked up a couple of Rolls Royces from the '30s and took them to Los Angeles. One of the cars didn't run and the owner of the cars called the golf course manager who sent over 4 teenagers to help push the car on. Very friendly people. I got a kick out of being on the road with the US on one side and Canada on the other.
Living in Washington I never heard of this place. hope all goes well with the people. Good luck

Nobody quite knew where the 49th parallel went when the border dispute with British Canada was settled oh so long ago. Maps weren’t accurate enough to show this peninsula was in the way and would be sliced off.

4:56 Interesting to me that the gas is priced in liters even though this is in the US. I guess it’s to make it more attractive for Canadians to fill up on the American side by pricing in liters (making the price seem low) vs gallons which would make the price look real high to Canadians
So Canadians will come to bellingham wa and just stuff their cars full of gas, some will even fill up garbage cans full of gas and will buy up all the milk and dairy products in Costco because its so much cheaper here.

OK, a few things. First of all, the gas prices you all are envious of are posted per litre, not per gallon (a nod to our Canadian customers). Multiply it times 4 approximately. Secondly, during normal times, those of us who have lived here for many years have accepted that crossing the border for medical services, etc. is the price we pay for a safe, quiet, naturally unspoiled place to live. It is not for everybody, as it requires the patience to sit in a line at the border to run the most mundane of errands. There is no Starbucks or McDonalds; there is no such thing as Next Day mail. I have to cross the border if I want to get something dry cleaned! Over the years, we have seen plenty of people move here and after 3 months. they are gone, because they just couldn't stand the inconvenience the border represents. The issue for us is the government's definition of "essential". Clearly, front line workers cross daily as they are needed to do their jobs, but picking up one's latest Amazon purchase or mowing the lawn of your summer home are not considered essential by the TWO federal governments involved. Those who govern both Washington State and British Columbia are in favor of exceptions because they understand our local economy better than their federal counterparts.
I'm formerly a Blaine, WA resident. The Point Roberts children are bused to Blaine daily for school. About 45 mins each way if I remember correctly. Point Roberts is a beautiful place but there are a lot of inconveniences to living that remotely.

Because the Border Patrol will hunt you down, and may decide to arrest you for doing that. They have cameras and sensors to detect human presence all along that "yellow barrier." Someone recently decided to be "cute" and order Doordash food from Canada to be handed over the barrier, and the driver is now in deep... you know what.

“Jumping” the border changed after 9/11, there’s a piece of the border in Maine that runs down the curb line of a street, the street is in the US, the houses are in Canada, to leave your own house and come back home you need to go to the nearest checkpoints, otherwise you’re illegally entering either nation. The only exemption, the golf course has is parking lot on the wrong side of the line, but you can park and play without using the checkpoint since there’s no other real way off the golf course but back out into the parking lot across the street.
There’s also a town in Vermont where the borderline cuts houses and a library in half.

95 percent of the US isnt in lockdown and has not been in lockdown since june of 2020. The only states in lockdowns still are really liberal coastal states and obviously Canada because of how nutty they are. Here in MIssouri, (and almost every other state in the country) has had schools, bars, restaurants, etc. open since last summer. Nothing is in lockdown so the idea that this is the death of small towns. Nope! I do feel bad for people living in Washington state, California, and the North East. Where governors care more about optics than what actually saves lives.

I’ve been to Pt Roberts a few times. It is a beautiful location but all of Puget Sound and the surrounding bodies of water are beautiful.

The Northwest Angle in the very northern tip of Minnesota is in the same situation. They have made an "ice road" across the Lake of the Woods but it's getting that time of year when the ice melts. They do not have a grocery store. Just resorts for fishing and such. I have no idea how they have been making due through this mess.

Point Robert’s kids had to go to Blaine wa for high school. Bud drive early in the morning and two border inspections one way.
These people need HELP!!! People want to make jokes or say, "I wanna go there post-covid.". But, this is a crisis for them. They need HELP. How can they get the HELP they need? What can be done for them? I cannot help these people, unfortunately. I would if I could. I'm a paralyzed person in a nursing home. But, there has to be someone, somewhere that can HELP these people. They are American citizens as well. What can be done?
