Ash is very corrosive to any firebox. It's been my experience that not washing out the firebox will greatly reduce the longevity of your smoker, grill, etc.

Hi Jon. How is it for actual heat output? I've found that similar stoves from others don't give of much heat to those sitting around it due to the solid walls blocking all the radiant heat.

Pretty good, we used at a family party yesterday and everyone enjoyed it. The walls probably do block some of the heat but worth not having all the smoke.
