Exactly, there are a LOT of clues hinting towards Sylvanas not being the big bad, not even being on the side of the big bad. And the fact that we got to see Illidan recontextualized recently enough means I do think the same is coming for Sylvanas. She has to be more than Garrosh 2.0, they have already literally confirmed it.
I’m thinking along these lines too. No one really wants her dead. Now her sisters are back. What if The Jailor is an entity that doesn’t belong, that maybe the scourge and/or Old Gods put into place. The Arbiter is the true being and the Jailer is the usurper allowing Arthas to raise the dead to this zombie form.
Also, in before we find out, "There must always be a Jailer" and the Jailer is the equivalent of the Lich King on their side of the barrier. And then after we kill the Jailer (gasp), Sylvie unifies the jobs and takes both, becoming the Lich Jailer. The Jailer Queen? The Ultimate Warden? Look, there's a reason I'm just a hack and don't write for Blizzard.

My hot take - the Valkyr were the Jailer's emissaries in Edge of Night. She didn't literally meet him, but contact was established. Additionally, I don't think Teldrassil was meant to be burned still. Why? Because Malfurion was supposed to die - and the anima of his soul would have been worth more than most of the civilians in Teldrassil combined.
Nope, you’re wrong. Malfurion is no more than a simple archdruid that is hailed as a hero by his people. Sylvanas would’ve burned down Teldrassil regardless because her goal was to kill as many people as she could.
@@lonefish8128 The way the devs described anima, I think it safe to say that "simple archdruid" has WAY more than the civilians did. Remember, anima is accrued through life experiences. Farmers, bakers, children, etc. don't have much but heroes do. Maybe she would have burned it down eventually, but Malfurion, with all his life experiences dating back to the War of the Ancients, would have collected more anima than almost any other living hero in the lore.
@@jdcole7065 OH O H OH. That may be why she burned Teldrassil anyway. They were all elves. Many of them thousands of years old. Why go for dwarves or gnomes or humans if what you're looking for is as much anima in as little effort as possible? Kill all the enemy elves - they'll just have more anima per person by virtue of having lived many times the lifespan of any mortal. Then you've got your war for even more anima on both sides. Killing the blood elves would likely have been just as good anima-wise, but being the Horde leader, taking out the night elves was probably the best possible thing she could have done if her aim was as much anima as she could get. Of course, Malfurion would have been fantastic for that - and also her trap at Lordaeron. All those Alliance leaders in that throne room? If she could have taken out Anduin Wrynn, Genn Greymane, Jaina Proudmoore with all her history and power, not to mention Alleria and her thousands of years of war...
amouramarie oh lord, I hadn’t even begun to think about Lordaeron - but based on the context of anima-harvesting, that also makes PERFECT sense. She was probably a little annoyed Jaina saved everyone, except that meant the war went on for longer. Do you think it’s safe to say she was secretly happy Rastakhan died too in Dazar’alor? The old Zandalari king must’ve had a hefty chunk of anima.
@@jdcole7065 Oh, probably. I doubt she cared about him in the least, other than as useful fuel. Which, considering we are champions of our planet now, who advise kings and oversee war campaigns, kill old gods and aspects, timetravel, and treat with titans, could be said about us as well. We probably have a fair amount of anima she could be eyeing. I'm gonna be pretty suspicious of her if she ever asks me to do something. :p
Charles C maybe the helmet being worn for the last 11 years has caused some physical properties... i mean arthas didn’t go back to human skin color when he was defeated, maybe some “domination” is still inside of Bolvar
No it can't i just studied the blade and couldn't find it. If you wanna call this a rune on his forehead it's in the shape of a W almost which you can't find on frostmourne.

@@navyverdant8672 Just MAYBE Bolvar still has some Lich abilities inside him, imparted to him via the helm and bolstered by dragon fire as possibly evidenced by the rune and Bolvar discovers he no longer needs the helm even if it means he functions as a Lich King with diminished power. @@tzoanast1061 Exactly. I've said this in a number of other comment threads elsewhere. "There must always be a Lich King" because otherwise the Scourge will go berserk, chaotically rampaging over whatever they can. Sylvanas doesn't care about any of that; in fact, all the death from it will now just feed into whatever link she has to the Maw that is feeding her power, granting her even more.
Marika Oniki Not only that, they’ve confirmed that what Terenas warned about will come to pass. There will be another Scourge invasion as the 9.0 pre-expansion event.
Something to note/think about to ground your Theory Tali: Those undead soldiers in the initial sequence who are wary of her, are most likely Post-Wrath Gate undead which means they not only do potentially recognize her but also recognize her as responsible for their deaths. So I think that respect/fear is happening on many levels and one of them being the remnants/memories of their humanity which was cut short by her blight.
There are two things i would really love your opinion on, that might or might not be connected (both t&e and everyone reading this): 1. The lich king, including his armor and frostmourne, was created by kil'jaeden (and some nathrezim) out of the disembodied Ner'zhul, so why exactly is his power connected to the shadowlands in such a fundamental way that it shatters the border of the two worlds when the crown of domination breaks? 2. This might be explained by the same means as 1, but why is Torghast right above Icecrown Citadel? The citadel was build around the original seat of Ner'zhul who was palced there to undermine Azeroth and prepare it for the invasion of the Burning Legion, so it would be strange to assume it was intended to be above/beneath Torghast, which presumably existed long before everything on Azeroth. While i do like a lot of the revealed stuff, this is really something that puts me off in terms of story, since i don't see any logical explanation that can fully justify what happens there. I hope somebody else can or they explain it later on.
Steffen Strübing yeah needs to be explained very well otherwise it’s just a ‘retcon because we need this to make sense otherwise it’s random as’ Like if they tweak it to say that because of the massive death energy involved in ICC over the years that the maw was drawn to it and that’s why the veil is thin there that’ll make more sense, instead of “ohhh it was like that the whole time you just didn’t know” Same thing with the helm and frostmourne, if KJ and the Dreadlords got it from the shadowlands that would make sense instead of “nah we said that before but not anymore coz we need it to make sense” All will come down to their handling of the story, if they just ignore the old lore then it will be a shit show....obviously ;) BUT if they just put subtle twists or add onto the established lore, then i think it’ll work
3:50 where did this get explained? some external book? sometimes i feel i dont know whats going on by simple playing the game. maybe they should explain this stuff IN the game.
Great one, as alwyas! Especially interesting was to hear your analysis of battle. But.. Yeah, I am little bit surprised that you didn't pointed out how Bolvar talks to Sylvanas. He doesn't mad at her... he warns her. With knowledge, with some form of compassion even. He literally spitting out the word *"power"* as if it was something disgusting to him. And in fact, it is. Unlike Arthas, he understends that this power is a true damnation, and receiving this power, you will be imprisoned by it. Just like Arthas was. I think that proves us that Bolvar’s willpower is very strong and all this time he fought cursed power of Lich King, and unlike Arthas, Bolvar won this battle.
And, just like Arthas, had a banshe pain in the ass.... But yes, I agree... he beleaved that she wanted the crown... that means that, even with the powers of the lich king, he didn't know nothing about what she was planing

Who?
@@bonefetcherbrimley7740 Sylvanas voice actor.
Oooh, neat.
@@gregdoriman I hate sylvanas post edge of night characterization, but goddam did they get an amazing voice actress for her
That's actually the Frozen Throne that Sylvanas was throwing. Like "eat your own throne" kind of move.
Taking a screenshot, cause I think this 100% of what will happen
Not gonna lie, the second I saw it I assumed her big plan is to become the new jailer
Sylvie 2020, make the upside down great again.
This (or something like it) is even more likely if it's revealed she kept the 2nd part of the crown, she kept the one without the gem though so I guess she'll miss out on a % or two of shadow resistance, bummer :/
If she really wants to rule all souls that'd be the way to do it.
Everytime tali says sindrigosa I die a little inside
I really loved your guys live weekly reset! You guys became my favorite WoW TH-camrs so much so, that even though I don't play anymore, I still really enjoy your content ❤️
Ibid
As opposed to what Tali might think, no literal tables were turned in this cinematic.
The same smirk she had in the Saurfang Cinematic when he says"cause you want to see me suffer." Also she uses her last arrow to pierce the saronite spike. Then it particularly lands in a spot where she knows she will need it later on in the fight.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! I love your cinematic analysis's the best because they are always so well thought out and you tend to notice things that no one else does. So excited to finally be able to sit down and watch!
Sylvanas breaking the Helm was probably one of the most cathartic experiences ever for her...... we stan.
The rune on Bolvar's forehead can be seen on Frostmourne.
@@navyverdant8672 Arthas changes skin color before becoming the Lich King. When he transitioned to a death knight. I was actually surprised how human he remained after being the Lich King for so long. But I figured they wanted to inspire feels for his human side, as it was the last we saw of it. Oh I miss the sweet sweet voice of the original Arthas so much.
I was thinking the runes carved into his flesh might have been from Arthas torturing him and trying to bend him to his will.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the helm somehow reforged and restored in the end. " There must ALWAYS be a Lick King. "
"He might not be Arthas, but he ain't nothin', ya know?"
Sylvanas kept a lot of emphasis on the ALL , when she said her last words
I love this guy because his enthusiasm is contagious
I thought the whispers was the Helm whispering to her to put it on.
When she says "I will set us ALL free", when she says "all" she looks at Bolvar...cuz she literally set him free seconds ago as well.
I didn't think of that because they were so clearly antagonists...but you're right, jeeze. She set him free from his prison. And looked like a villain while doing it lol.
@Berserker free from being the lich king 🙄
I love these breakdowns, there are so many details I keep missing that I am grateful for the effort put into videos like these.
So true there fun and it makes playing the game going forward imo.
The veil of reality shattering is one of the most amazing scenes I've ever seen in any media.
Sylvanas: Icecrown.....
Tali: (PAUSES) So, let's talk about that!
30:51 You said Calia, but you meant to say Taelia.
And as for the Jailer. Disagree all you want, but I think he is going to turn on Sylvanas. When finally, he has all he needs from her and she is no longer useful to him. He could rip the powers he gave her back into himself and trigger shadowlands takeover of everything and everyone.
Nothing like waking up and having some Saturday morning cartoons to watch ❤️
If they made Saturday morning cartoons like that i'd watch them all week long!
Tali, when the tables literally and figuratively turned, I didn't see any tables....?
I think it was the direction the camera was facing.
The music you hear is what you hear when you die, so they're more than just "string notes."
My absolute favorite thing on this channel! Thank you for posting this at last! I've still been hype over the cinematic, honestly.
We've had a weekly reset live, can we have Taliesin Ted Talk now?
I have only just realised that at 28:14 in the video you can see Sylvanas ascend into the Maw as her cloudy / Floaty form. A nice little detail that I missed as I did begin to wonder how she goes to the ShadowLands.
Fans: "We love Lich King! We want the Lich King expansion!"
Blizzard: "We should kill the Lich King in introduction of the new expansion"
He's not dead. He plays a very important part in the beginnings and probably throughout this entire expansion.
@@nowanloka4302 That's Bolvar not the Lich King, The Lich King was the mixed persona and the position of the Scourge leader. I won't believe it to be otherwise unless there'll be a proof in Shadowlands.
@@nowanloka4302 Bolvar is alive, but the Lich Ling as entity should be dead, I believe.

I'm still salty about the helmet being broken.
I also find it quiet interesting that the reality / plane breach / barrier is coloured like Azerith.
i love that you put the soundtrack of the cinematic behind your commentary in a way that it seemed like it continued.. little detials like that are so awesome
There is only one question, that need an answer: When we kill Sylvanas, what mount she will drop?
Invincible, damnit! 😄😂
Nathanos
She will drop a brain mount called “4000D Chess Player”
@@Groxigar Yeah, everyone wants to ride on this old steed XD

I utterly adore these videos, and the benefit of having incorporated all the Q&As etc. really made it a better product.
"To wield.... such power..." - Sylvanas, after easily defeating that power.
I think she was in reference to the power she has to rip it in half
The potential for power in the crown is what she refers to.
Bolvar has done literally nothing to build his power via the helmet.
She didn't easily break It, shes spent a decade building her own power.
Jotta H. Agreed potential of helm is unknown maybe cosmic level. Dont forget this last scene show sylvanas more powerful then saronite not inside of helm.
Bolvar was a weak lich king
As always, appreciate your analysis Taliesin. I wish I were at all excited for this like you are, but I appreciate that that there are still some out there excited for this stuff. It's *almost* infectious...almost.
"There must always be a Lich King"
Blizzard: Actually nvm.
There is a difference between "There MUST always be a Lich King" and "There WILL always be a Lich King". Understand that difference.
in german we have a saying "was interessiert mich mein Geschwätz von gestern" / "
what interests me my gossip from yesterday". so they dont care. because we need more over the top stuff in the game.
@@Stalkingwolf They DO care otherwise they would have done all the shit the community wanted them to do with the racesm, because Terenas (who we dont even know if it TRULY was Terenas) said "There must always be a Lich King" that doesnt mean that there WILL always be a Lich King, it just means that its really important to have one to keep the Scourge imprisoned.
Something to note/think about to ground your Theory Tali:
Those undead soldiers in the initial sequence who are wary of her, are most likely Post-Wrath Gate undead which means they not only do potentially recognize her but also recognize her as responsible for their deaths. So I think that respect/fear is happening on many levels and one of them being the remnants/memories of their humanity which was cut short by her blight.
There are two things i would really love your opinion on, that might or might not be connected (both t&e and everyone reading this):
Steffen Strübing yeah needs to be explained very well otherwise it’s just a ‘retcon because we need this to make sense otherwise it’s random as’
Like if they tweak it to say that because of the massive death energy involved in ICC over the years that the maw was drawn to it and that’s why the veil is thin there that’ll make more sense, instead of “ohhh it was like that the whole time you just didn’t know”
Same thing with the helm and frostmourne, if KJ and the Dreadlords got it from the shadowlands that would make sense instead of “nah we said that before but not anymore coz we need it to make sense”
All will come down to their handling of the story, if they just ignore the old lore then it will be a shit show....obviously ;) BUT if they just put subtle twists or add onto the established lore, then i think it’ll work
I hope this means we'll finally have an open world version of the frozen throne (and not the empty platform we have at the moment)
3:50 where did this get explained? some external book? sometimes i feel i dont know whats going on by simple playing the game. maybe they should explain this stuff IN the game.
Love when you make these kind of videos.
« Sindragosa’s fire » ?
Alextrasza you mean ;)
The chains Sylvanas is using look remarkably, and ironically, like the Death knight ability, "Death Chains"
www.wowhead.com/spell=203173/death-chain I want this spell
Great one, as alwyas! Especially interesting was to hear your analysis of battle. But.. Yeah, I am little bit surprised that you didn't pointed out how Bolvar talks to Sylvanas. He doesn't mad at her... he warns her. With knowledge,
with some form of compassion even.
But yes, I agree... he beleaved that she wanted the crown... that means that, even with the powers of the lich king, he didn't know nothing about what she was planing
at 30:50 I think it's daughter Taelia, not Calia.
I mean, I know it wasn’t included in the video. But I can’t wait for theTyrande Sylvanas showdown. Two super powered bad asses getting down. Sounds amazing!!!
super powered ass that couldn't kill a useless undead nobody aka Nathanos?
@@dushas9871
Two things: Firstly, she had just received the power there and will not have known what it may now have changed. On the other hand there was one of Sylvanas Val'kyr who stopped her. If we assume that the Valkyr are part of the partnership between Sylvanas and the Jailer, they should have enormous power. And Nathanos is the lover boy of Sylvanas. This is not a simple forsaken.
sylvanus is gonna win esily. im sorry but blizzard will pull kerrigan2.0(wont grant her well deserved villain's end and reward her just for being a vile creature) with sylvanus and eliminate every obstacle before her. we are now officially playing world of sylvanus. this charade wont end in a satisfactory way sadly.

... or maybe, it's just the Lich King ordering the undead to stand aside and let her pass, so that he - prey to his own confidence - can confront her.
I want to know what Taliesin said to trigger Pyromancer.

But yes I too would love to know the exact exchange. Bc pyro is still pretty salty about it
There was a video a while back, I don't remember which one now, but I remember Taliesin referenced Chronicle and said something like, "Don't tell Pyromancer I'm taking this seriously". Maybe that was it, or at least part of some longer argument or something.
