As usual, a beautiful, respectful retelling of this horrendous murder. I clearly remember reading about it as I was managing a TCBY restaurant with mostly high school or college aged teens....we had to train them how to act if a robbery should occur, how to be aware of their surroundings etc.. Franchise suggested one person at closing, and I ignored them. ....leaving a 16 yr old to close out is very bad: ethically, morally, legally and "just ask any parent of teen if it is wise to leave them alone with a register full of money, frozen yogurt and 36 toppings and even a good sound system"-ly....lolol. Those were the 90s.
Nowadays I would not permit my teens to work in any fast food or gas station, especially alone. The proliferation of guns, the lack of impulse control in adults and children, sense of entitlement, main character syndrome (aka Karens), the breakdown of society regarding civility, the small niceties that oil otherwise squeaky human interactions (what my mother would call "manners" or etiquette) is GONE....
Your video today made me realize that I had managed to NOT get any employee hurt or even killed. That SOUNDS horrible but we know the unimaginable can become the very credible tale of teens being killed in awful at any moment. All we can do is prepare them by training, practice runs for fire or explosion or a shooter....the best way not to panic is preparation and knowledge. Hope all of you have a wonderful holiday: no eggnog or hot toddys around the turkey fryer, OK?
Peace on Earth ( and the rest of the universe) goodwill to all!

Thank you so much. I love what you said here. You always tell it like is. Very well said. This story is very frightening to me. Just thinking of what these babies went through and what they were thinking is hearbreaking. I can not fatham what these parents went through.
I hope your Christmas is the best. It is very good to see you. Thank you for remaining with me all this time. HUGS!

How sad teenage girls worked a closing shift. I was several years older than these girls and worked a fast food job part time that year.
Only the managers worked closing shift at that restaurant. One was a very large, take no nonsense middle aged woman, the other a man.
The rest of us were strictly part timers and home by then.

It is incredibly sad. I can not even think about what they went through or what they were thinking. Just sweet babies. I hope they can find who did this. I am so happy to see you. I missed you last week. HUGS!

I know that some were saying that the serial killer Kenneth McDuff might have done this...

@crimesforgottenbytime McDuff himself would also probably make an interesting subject. Many people don't know who he was, but he's actually part of the reason why Texas has its "no give on crime" reputation and what he did completely upended and changed the prison and parole system there. I watched the true crime reporter channel (Robert Riggs) and there's things about this guy that really shocked me. Namely everything. He was actually even more devoid of humanity than a lot of the more famous serial murderers.
