A tempting Arcane Tradition for a prospective wizard...the spell list is extremely versatile. So versatile, I believe, that I wonder if the slightly lackluster features were intended to balance how great the spells are...I say that with a bit of restraint, however: The ability to imbue a stone with a stat-bolstering effect, or the potential to completely heal an ally cannot be overlooked. It just isn't as stylish or flashy as some other Arcane Traditions. Then again...when everyone gets stuck in prison, they're going to look to the Transmutation Wizard to turn the metal bars and manacles into wood for a hasty escape. It is truly the "thinker" class.
I once had a sorcerer who was a transmuter and at one point he was knocked prone and was about to be sliced by a sword but he rolled a nat 20 on stopping the blade by grabbing the inside of the blade as a reaction and transmuting the steel into cloth, turning the longsword into a hikt with a rag hanging from it and then using shocking grasp on the actual person and knocking him unconscious.
Of all the players I have hosted for, a Transmuter has been the most fun school of Wizard to grace my table! Not only would he turn lead into gold (for a short time) but grew up as a charlatan and made a name for himself and his party as swindlers and crooks! They're currently in Waterdeep with numerous charges of fraud and it has been quite the *altered* game to experience!
Thinking of home brewing an alchemist/fully transmutation based class based off FMA. It’ll be tough, since I have to balance it out, but I might as well try.
if you're still up to that, a few parts of Eberon have a strong FMA vibe, and the tinkerer class would be a good basis to hackmod the more technical aspects of FMA transmutation perhaps
Make it a D8 with proficiency in light armor and simple weapons and one martial melee weapon of your choice. Gains spellslots in a manner similar to the Paladin, never higher than 5th and an ability to expend spellslots for class features such as "Increasing AC for 10 minutes", "Created weapon does an additional Hit die for 10 minutes" or stuff similar. Boom
Rune Smith has anyone you’ve seen in dnd has ever transmutation to change into a skeletal werewolf on fire like ghost rider with the abilities and immunities of a tarrasque
I let my party use creative loopholes in spells like create/destroy water. For example: "Well, that creature is basically a container with water in it... so I can destroy the water within that mobile water container". "Okay, but they'll need to fail a save and you need to make a WIS check to see if you can convince yourself and the spell accordingly"
you're mistaken about the definition of alchemy Alchemy is the science of understanding, deconstructing, and reconstructing matter. However, it is not an all-powerful art; it is impossible to create something out of nothing. If one wishes to obtain something, something of equal value must be given. This is the Law of Equivalent Exchange, the basis of all alchemy. In accordance with this law, there is a taboo among alchemists: human transmutation is strictly forbidden - for what could equal the value of a human soul?
one of my favorite things to do is use meld into stone and cast all of my spells through my familiar so while the rest of the party is in combat with the final boss I go meld my way into a wall and use my familiar for casting and if my familiar dies I just need to burn a 1st level spell slot and I am back in the fight not to mention wizards have arcane recovery so taking a short rest in a large dungeon means your ability to keep fighting is much higher than other casters also why is meld into stone just a cleric and druid spell
I dunno about the city wizards not having much use for Transmutation. Alter Self will allow for you to blend in to anywhere or be able to turn the tables if you're ever mugged, not to mention that feather fall is great for tall buildings, and mold earth applies to stone, which is a primary building material of most cities.
Metagrossfreak I think it might be from the Quern Undying thoughts game. I played through it recently and I’m pretty sure this was in there, but I could be wrong.
i'm here to tell you, as a favor to myself within these last 2 years as i tried to find this song myself but only just found it *now*, that this song is called Floating Cities by Kevin MacLeod. i am very satisfied that i finally know lmao
Is been 5 years but I hope you or someone can answer me I liked the video a lot and I'm glad I found a video that matches the vision I have for this school, but something I don't know well it about the transmutation stone, I want to get more info about this object. If it breaks, can I craft another one? How much it will cost? The purpose for the stone is only one, but if I make another can I change the purpose? I read the players handbook but it seems they don't talk much about the transmutation stone. Thanks for the help!
This magic actually sounds like what real humans are capable of, or aspiring to be capable. If we have any superpower as a species, it is our knowledge of how to transmute and reconfigure matter and forces.
Correct! He has used "Expeditious Retreat" to zip away from murderous pirates, "Enlarge-Reduce" to grow Beauregard and Yasha into a giant, and his perfectly-timed "Feather Fall" saved the entire party when a temple...well, exploded. I'm patiently waiting for when Caleb get's "Disintegrate"...it'll be legendary.
Ahahaha...! With this video, I have been inspired to create a transmutation wizard who aspires to become the most famous wizard in existence! Archades Galvani...Arc to his friends. He is as flamboyant as a bard, brimming with confidence and flash. A lover of art and performance, he often goes for flash and spectacle, but hides a shrewd intellect. He wishes to be immortalized...in every sense of the word. As powerful as Mordekainen, but as admired as, say, Bigby. He dreams of creating unique spells, and having audiences with the gods themselves. He embodies the old adage: "Audaces fortuna iuvat!"
I actually made a character who specializes in transmutation, the only thing is that he mainly focuses on transmuting his little greyhound into a demonic version of a Dire Wolf
Can I use it to possess somebody and turn into a stand? Can I use it to create limbs that generate electricity and craft them onto my body for a small time? Can I create a body specifically with tons of parts strewn together like the electricity limb and then use that to embody myself with or possess myself?
I have an idea for a Wizard who tries to master time and space, and Transmutation sounds like it'd be the best school for that, but most Transmutation class features are just...alchemy.
I hate goodberry. DM: "Okay group, today well play a survival focused adventure, trying to find food to survive until you can find your way back to civilisation" Druid: "No. I got goodberry. Infinite food, forever. For everyone"
Well, theoretically if you could identify the amount of sub-atomic particles, then you could determine how much gold you could make, so yes it is possible, but the information required would be extremely hard to obtain.
I want to make a wizard of EVERY SCHOOL, and the Transmuter I made is... the most interesting. He is a traumatized gnome, he can't speak (besides writing), he's very paranoid about literally all new people, and he wants to burn all of the trees. Why? Because a Treant came into town, killed his father and hit the gnome on the head very hard.
Which by the way has the best alchemy system from any RPG in my opinion. It also has an awesome rule for magical item creation. Look it up if you like to try new systems!
I don't want to sound mean, but I'm not a fan of the D&D universe videos. The wit and pithiness of the other videos really helps me remember things, but just reciting facts is a bit of a snoozefest.
Transmutation is probably my favorite school of magic lore wise
Mine too!

Me 4
Went the whole video without an FMA joke or reference. I'm impressed.
Actually, one of the background images was FMA fanart of a famous scene.

Shapeshifting hijinks are also a good way of utilizing them. xD Alter Self all the way!
Keep doing these man, you definitely have your own style, I like the slower pace of the video. Do divination next!

A vampiric changeling that practices transmutation has potential. Sensing a theme there...

transmutation is a great school of magic and my favorite of the bunch the next closest being conjuration.
This just made me want to play a transmuter even more.
A mixture of illusion, transumation and conjuration sounds pretty good.
When you mentioned "travel utility" at 2:01, what was the art you used? It looks like something for Misty Step, but I'm not super sure.
