      Right?! My mom just found this model exactly in our cupboard. It was given by a friend so we don’t have the directions. Also never used an ice cream maker before. This video is a life saver!

    Very nice review. I am curious about two things: 1) Why does the pan need to be placed into a zip lock bag? and 2) I find that generally store bought ice cream does not need to let soften when removed from the freezer. What is different about the ice cream prepared at home that requires it to sit and soften after being removed from the freezer? Thanks!

    • @iancasely461
      @iancasely461 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Store bought Ice Cream contains salt to stop it from freezing too hard.

    • @ThePerimeters
      @ThePerimeters 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      To experience the true flavor as it softens the texture combined with the flavor is able to be enjoyed as your mouth need not warm and defrost before swallowing. Seriously the softer the more flavorful if you take your time and really let it melt. Kinda like the bouquet of a fine wine and how it sits on the tongue

      I think she puts it in a plastic bag mainly to keep it clean and so that nothing will fall into it and scratch or damage it.

      Not sure if you will read this but others might. Freezers & refrigerators too, do their best work when fully stocked. Milk & eggs should be stored in a much cooler part of the fridge, such as inside on a shelf, preferably a middle shelf. Use a refrigerator/freezer thermometer to check to ensure your fridge & freezer settings are optimal & also use it to learn where the colder parts of your fridge are located. Milk & eggs should be stored in that cooler zone. DON"T STORE IN THE DOOR! The door of a fridge is one of the warmest places in a fridge. It's a good place for condiments, sauces, & the like. Use an enclosed container for eggs! Granted, eggs are more resilient than most people believe; hwr, egg shells are extremely porous. It is because they are so porous that eggs should be stored in an enclosed egg container; this prevents odorous foods like salami, Limburger cheeses, onions, etc.. Eggs stored openly around these types of foods will change the eggs' taste & smell.
      As for the freezer bowl, try to store it on a shelf deep within a well stocked freezer. This is especially true if you have children and keep ice pops on hand over the spring & summer months. The constant opening & closing of the door releases the cold air required to keep everything in the freezer at the desired temperature. It also costs more to run a refrigerator/freezer unit when the doors are needlessly opened & closed. Take that into consideration the next time your power bill comes in and it's higher than usual.
      Start paying attention to the number of times the fridge/freezer doors are opened & closed, what lights are burning when they don't need to be, what appliances are running with nobody in the room to listen or watch them. It's always a smart idea to begin switching out standard light bulbs with quality LED bulbs. Many energy-saving sites will list the best equivalent LED lumination needed to match that of your previous standard light bulb. Don't forget to change out the ones in chandeliers, track lighting, recessed lights, & even the bulbs on stove hoods. Check outdoor lights such as front porch/back porch, any & all flood lights around the house, & even the decorate light bulb in the lamp post in the front yard and/or over a garage or two. And, don't forget savings from your thermostat settings. In the winter, pull on a pair of socks & a cardigan or comfy light sweater & keep your home a few degrees cooler. During spring/summer months, wear shorts, drink more water, visit your local pool w/the family and set that thermostat a few degrees warmer in spring & summer. Change that dial by a few more degrees if there is nobody home during the day or during the night. If your thermostat allows, program it's settings to change back or forward a few degrees more when everyone is away & set the timer to cool the house or warm it up about 30-45 mins before everyone comes home again. No need to heat or cool a home to personal needs when there's nobody home who needs it. If your thermostat is more than a few years old, consider updating it with a more cost efficient model, incl'g those that are easy to program. Check into the SMART thermostats that allows you set the thermostat with an app on your phone. Last bit of tips: Run your dishwasher, washing machine, & dryer during off-peak times. You can even check with your power company to find out if there is a cost benefit program offered to save even more money.
      I hope these tips help: Both w/freezing your ice cream bowl and lowering a power bill each month when prices seem to be skyrocketing again. Before I forget, many power companies offer an in-home evaluation to find ways to save energy and save on your power bill. These include switching to LED bulbs over standard light bulbs, sealing any doors or the molding to the doors, if you don't have them yet, check into getting thermal paned windows. They really do pay for themselves over the life of the windows. Some power companies offer cash rebates or a percentage off your bill every month if you change out your windows to new energy efficient ones. Sometimes there is an even bigger reduction of offset costs when using a contractor recommended by the power company and/or specific energy savings grade window brands. Our windows are approx 20yrs old & they have paid for themselves more than twice over in savings not to mention the insulation they provide so your central unit doesn't work itself to death.

      Depending on what the outside of the canister is covered in (many are bare metal, but some have a plastic casing) there’s a good chance your fingers will freeze to the bare metal if you try to pick it up with bare hands
