Thanks, Rahel. You asked if anyone has used Vulgarlang. I have the paid version and I recommend people getting it. The free version's pretty good too but you get more features with pro and can create more words. You can tell it what sounds and grammar rules you want or use a preset "give me a language like X" feature. You can also save languages.
It took me a while to get used to it though and you have to do a lot of tweaking to get the language just right. Even then, I wouldn't rely on it entirely, I'd want to be more creative. It makes a great helper, though.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Vulgarlang! When I checked it out it felt almost game-like or a way to gamify work, which is awesome! I haven't found any similar tools related to language and I praise those who made it 'cause it's a great idea, despite not being perfect 😊

I'm surprised most alien languages don't use frequencies outside the human hearing range.

That would totally make sense! I suppose it's just due to the practicalities of developing an alien language for a TV show for instance, or the simple fact that we create stuff based on something we know (or at least we draw some inspiration from it). Which is why even books lack truly surprising alien languages despite having all the potential to do so. I looove to see challenging and unexpected options related to language and sci-fi in general

Is there any tools to produce word pronunciation sounds? ( probably just feed it into any text to speech generator may do it not sure ) i am thinking to get some karaoke songs ( without the words but with a familiar tune, so your mind would go to the translations automatically ) the layer the conlang words over the top of the tune ( to fill the song with words in a fictional language ) i did some coding that would make a nice language ( it was simple just reverse all characters in the normal languages spelling of words, except for the first and last characters of the word so is still human readable without a dictionary or learning it off by heart a whole thing ) it even operated in a browser plugin for Firefox, for instance the word human is hamun ( still quite pronounceable in sounds, for a nicer language construction ) the problem with this mechanism is 3 letter words come out the same ( so i just added code to add the center letter again ) so that cat would be caat, dog would be doog, 'the' would be thhe, etc ( still keeping the human readability factor )

I guess the conlang would still be roughly based on English (in terms of syntax), if that's your goal it sounds great. If you want to differentiate 3-letter words you could switch the consonants at the beginning and end of the word (not sure if it would work with your code), even something like "g" to "k" or whatever you like as long as it's consistent in the 3-letter word scenario. You could also leave them as they are and play around with other elements, such as the word order. Regarding a tool to produce sounds I'm not sure what you mean apart from test to speech generators, as you said; I'm not aware of other tools you could use for it, I hope someone who does will pop up and help us both 😅

@@TheStoriesEater yeah just reversing the centre part of the word makes it still readable to me, for instance The Stories Eater would be Th#e Seirots Eetar ( see how its still readable, but some words need some thought ) also for 3 letter words i had the idea to add a hash symbol so The would become Th#e ( the centre letter gets a symbol added like a hash ) why do this, because the translation program can locate these patterns and replace them back to the original text ( while still retaining human english readablity ) so yeah thats my goal, a lightweight easily programmable language that can be read easily by the reader with only a little thought on some words, ( i read somewhere that the brain only needs the letters and not the order they are in, at least that works for me, if the first and last letters are kept the same as the original ) thanks for your input !!!

If AI and aliens spoke to each other, they would agree to destroy us. Then the world would be inhabited by xenomorph terminator. This is science.😆
    Good video Rahel!

This is the pessimistic view we all need! 😂 But it definitely makes sense, totally plausible 😅

An alien race that is capable of FTL communication will NOT be using some bullshit caveman language for discourse between each other...
Their communication will be over neuro-link and not via the same orifice they use for breathing and eating...
Their language will be highly efficient and RARELY used.
If I am a living creature capable of FTL communication, there's very little I need to learn. Almost everything - I could logically derive it myself faster than asking.
Whatever is left of the alien language (for example for communication with machines) will be like our mathematical language, EG - Gödel's completeness theorem:
    (∀x. R(x,x)) → (∀x∃y. R(x,y))
For the aliens, the above will be as simple as "The letter O makes an O-sound like how your mouth does an O when you read the letter out".
Their language will enable even more abstract and complex language, such that our minds cannot comprehend.
Therefore, their language will be completely useless for communication between us and them.
Like trying to talk to a bacteria...

This is incredibly interesting and totally plausible!! Thank you for sharing!
