    Somehow Gabrielle Anwar has been in some of my most memorable movie scenes...this and dancing the Tango with Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman...

    Just one of many utterly beguiling and memorable scenes. Why this film never received the acclaim and recognition it deserved, is totally beyond me. One of the most poignant and poetic scripts ever committed to film, a collection of the most amazing characters ever assembled, a storyline that blends intrigue, humour yet at the same time despair all underpinned by a haunting then uplifting soundtrack - simply majestic. Will always be one of my very favourite films.

      It was completed and then there was some Hoo Har with the studio regarding money. So it sat on a shelf for 6 months or so, and in the meantime 'Reservoir Dogs' hit the cinemas. When it finally came out it was reviewed as a cop from Tarantino's Film. A crying shame, one of my top 3 from that genre. Have never seen a DVD in my Charity shopping for many a year. But still looking. Jimmy the Saint you is the Man.

      This film is a gem. A great work and great cast. I have watched it over and over. This and Drive are perhaps the 2 greatest films of all time. Other awesome films in this category: True Romance, Boondock Saints, Heat, The Equalizer, Wind River, Silence of the Lambs.

      @@dmll7971 mmmm......I don't agree with several of your choices ['Silence of the Lambs' FFS and 'Heat' - with its dreadful ending!!] but yes, True Romance is an excellent film. If you enjoyed that, I recommend you check out 'City of Industry' [Harvey Keitel and Stephen Dorff] and 'Payback' - which is almost definitely Mel Gibson's finest ever film!
      I know they are not really the in the same genre, but you might also want to watch 'Rounders' [Matt Damon and Edward Norton] David Lynch's 'Wild at Heart' and 'Blue Velvet' as well as Peter Bogdanovichs' 'The Last Picture Show'.

      Sorry Pat, but I am forced to trump you. Alas, in the old days. 'One Christmas Eve, many years from now, I was living with a Lady who was pure gold. She went back to her Parents, around mid-day so we bid each other a fond adieu. However, a very smart French Madamoseille I had a curious, random association with, arrived at about 8 to drizzle some snowflakes on me. Then she left. Not expecting any other intruders, I retired to my pit. At around 11, there was a knock on the door. A beautiful lady from the Caribbean that if I recall, had locked eyes with me, out tripping the light fantasticomo. Was standing there. I asked, 'why are you here'. She replied 'I am going to a party nearby, and I thought I would come and give you a Christmas present'! Entre. She peeled off her clothes and snuggled up in bed. I said 'where is the Christmas Present'? She fixed me with a steely eye and said 'don't be stupid - Get In!'
      No I am Not Bill Wyman. and I apologise most humbly to all three, especially number 1. Who did not get slippy, until I crashed and burned.....................Aah memories.

      It is a good line for a confident, put-together, twentysomething guy. But it doesn't take long for most women to just be absolutely fucking done with pickup lines, and rightly so. They want a genuine connection...two people being their most open and honest selves with one another, and pickup lines do not scream "authenticity" about a guy using them.

    As someone in a new relationship when this came out, I was inspired but also felt really bad for Alex/Chip because as it shows she drives off in Jimmys car at the end. He was in love and some smooth murderous thug with a line comes in and he loses her

    • @partizanbgd0113
      @partizanbgd0113 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As long as you have your own “game show” you won’t have to see yourself as Alex.
      We can’t make people love us just because we love or think we love them.
      She said there is someone, so it’s not like she was going to marrie the guy.
      Also, at this point in the movie, Jimmy thought his past life was behind him, and I don’t think he was ever portrayed as a killer, that was Critical Bill 😂.
      Best of luck in your relationship.

      Tigress........Sorry, but you completely missed the point. Jimmy the Saint is an old soul and a romantic who yearns for the past. [if you listen carefully, he actually admits this when Dagney asks him - 'Does this rap ever work?' and he wistfully answers - 'Alas, in the old days]. So yes, the exchange IS corny and cliched - because it is meant to be. Jimmy wants to see if Dagney recognises in him the very qualities that he holds so high in himself. Of being noble and a true 'gentleman'. Thankfully, she does and they fall deeply in love.
      This elevates the scene to being one of the standout moments of the entire film - which is remarkable considering just how many truly stunning scenes there are! It also perpetuates a constant theme that runs throughout the film - from the 'Man with a plan', 'Pieces Olden' and Jo to drug-addled prostitute Lucinda. That Jimmy has class, respects a man's word and values real friendships.
