  • Aerial footage shows untreated sewage being pumped into Langstone Harbour in Hampshire from a nearby treatment plant. The sewage reportedly poured out for more than two days. 'I just couldn't believe what I was seeing,' said photographer Chris Pearsal, who shot the footage. 'It's happening right along our coastline, and it quite simply needs to stop.'

There were 403,171 spills of sewage into England’s rivers and seas in 2020, according to the Environment Agency, adding up to over 3.1m hours of spillages. Last week, MPs voted down an amendment to the environment bill that would have placed a legal duty on water companies not to pump waste into rivers.

It seems that until people get really angry about issues such as these, nothing changes. Water, gas, food and electricity are essential resources which are now owned by super-rich companies and shareholders. A quick bit of research shows that Southern Water is owned by Greensands Holdings who have shareholders such as Hermes and JP Morgan. I doubt very much whether pollution on British beaches is high on their agenda.

The solution is to invest more money into infrastructure for treating sewage. And since this was all sold off with privatization it's not the responsibility of tax payers. Private companies bought that responsibility, but these companies just prefer to keep the profit and not invest money in infrastructure, which is why privatization is always a bad idea.

Full of shlite. Literally. I guess the idea of increasing local tourism is out the window. We’ll always have Mallorca! If they let us in.

THIS is what the phrase 'levels of containment' means. Same 'levels of containment' procedure operated by nuclear power plants.

Didn't Giles Coren say that one reason he would never go Vegan, was that animal waste was vital to fertilise crops?
I think he needs to see this footage.
    I think we all do.
