@@brentpletinckx6668 there’s a long answer and a short one for this, the long one will make a great future video. Short answer is; the second 296bhp M20 overheated after the OEM body loom/fuse box broke up, and the fan relay stopped kicking in. So to progress I ideally needed to refresh the body side of the loom and do at least a head gasket. At this time, the shell was also looking a bit tired - having had an off at the Ring at 100mph. I decided to switch shells to the one I had with the full weld in cage, this would have a PDM and new wiring throughout, the engine already had a bespoke loom to run it. After opening up the engine to see what was damaged I made the decision to switch to a larger engine and had lined up an S85 V10 to go into it. The sequential wouldn’t fit this engine but an E92 manual box would go in. I was all set to go but then realised I’d been at this point before with my MK5 and I had failed to finish it. There’s a lot of projects hanging in stasis at the moment, so decided to sell up everything E30 related and progress with everything else. Was a bit brutal but it died to everything else could live.
Damn bummer to hear. Would have loved to see you tackle the ring again in that thing after the rebuild. Was really cool and inspirational build. Low weight momentum car/ a bit sleeper unless you checked the inside. But luckely you have an ae86 that has my full attention hahaha. Keep those video’s coming. Always loved your take on builds. Following from when the e92 m3 was still in your garage.
@ the 86 and the E30 are sort of similar too, you’re right! Funky gearboxes and smaller engines that sound great. Focussing on the AE86 should make for a cars that’s just as fast and fun, and can do a bit more with. The GTI will be this years track car, which should mean a lot more track days. Hoping to spend less time building/solving problems and a lot more time driving this year!
