@@divinehearts444 God I hate when people use bipolar or borderline disorder so loosely. Human beings are multidimensional. It's quite a natural behavior for Klaus to transition from a humourous tone used as a defense mecanism to being sincere about his feelings when confronted about a sensitive topic. He does that a lot throughout the series. Nothing bipolar about it.
“What do you want from me? A secret brotherhood handshake”? Makes me smile every time. But when he said “we’re left infinitely and utterly alone”. I just wanted to show him that he wasn’t.
@That One Guy you are right when u say that he knows it, but stefan actually does regret it, every bit of it! He feels remorse for killing, and that is why he fights it so well! Stefan chooses the difficult way, he inflicts pain on himself, follows animal diet and gives up on a lot of his supernatural advantages just to keep his darkness at bay! He is a fighter! And i appreciate his struggle!
@Caleb Sims I think, stefan is NOT the monster that klaus is. Let me give an instance- klaus killed the entire petrova family bcuz he wanted revenge from katherine, a 17 y old girl who dared to survive him. He killed a lot of other innocent people for power and selfish reasons too. Stefan on the other hand, killed an entire village bcuz his bloodlust is WAY stronger than any regular vampire, which he couldn't control that day. He didn't have an evil motive, yet he commited homicides and he is indeed responsible for that. Imo both committed homicides but the difference lies in their context and consequences. It lies in the fact that klaus didn't flinch when he killed katherine's family. He never admitted that what he did was WRONG, and katherine's family didn't deserve that, while stefan's guilt wrecked him. In the s8 falshbacks, we saw him as the ripper of Monterey, a man who is consumed by his guilt and hates himself. In s1 ep 20 we see stefan's guilt consuming him again, so much that he wanted to commit suicide. To sum it all up, stefan hates himself for his genetic demerit. He goes through hell regretting what he did, upto the level of self destruction i.e. suicide. He also tries to cope with the guilt(with lexi and then elena helping him) and works on himself to stay in control. It took him 30 years to pull himself together and be a person who doesn't go around ripping heads off. He WANTED to be good(has a pure heart), unlike klaus who does what he needs to do and I don't care bcuz he doesn't. Bottom line: Stefan has ADMITTED that he isn't a saint, he is worse. But he struggles to be a better person and I appreciate that struggle. Throughout the premise of the show stefan has turned off his humanity 4 times, 3 out of which were situations where he was given an impossible choice, i.e. saving his brother in s3, saving his niece in s6 and saving a pair of innocent kids in s8. Can we blame him for anything he did after that? Yes we can, but we shouldn't forget that he is also a victim of circumstances. He didn't WANT to switch his humanity off, but NEEDED to do it. Can we blame him completely now? The only time he turned it off was in 1920s(that's his fault) and let's not forget that damon was an essential catalyst to it. A monster doesn't regret his wrong choices, a man does. I don't remember a lot of klaus's story to pin point his regret over certain actions, if they exist. Lol that was long. Sorry.

Klaus Gave Stefan an Answer it Took himself 1,000 years of experience to figure out. Klaus saw himself in Stefan, and took an even deeper liking to Stefan when he found out in the 20’s that he wrote his victims names on walls as a way to memento mori, seeing as Klaus also did something a bit similar to momento mori. Klaus in this scene then tries to console Stefan by giving him an answer Klaus had to live many centuries through to figure out, that the loneliness Stefan feels now while being only 150+, that loneliness.. it never goes away, over the centuries you just get better at putting this facade up to keep you somewhat from going completely insane. In laymen’s terms, Klaus dropping the Gems That He wish someone gave him when he too, was going through this deep seated feeling of Darkness and Loneliness and Borderline Despair that stayed bottled up and kept growing, partially making who we see today as Klaus Mikaelson. I suppose, he didn’t want Stefan to become resentful with the world and grow angry just like him, and inevitably end up pushing the few people he have in his life completely away. Because unlike Klaus who’s immediate family will probably be alive forever. ( that’s what they seemed to could’ve been at the time), Stefan doesn’t share that same Luxury of Time to spend when it comes down to Damon, Caroline, Elena, Bonnie, Alaric. One way or another, they all would die soon. hell, Stefan himself ended up dying so, atleast in the end he got an Answer to one of the mystery’s of the world of pain and grief.
Loneliness, Stefan, that’s why you and I memorialize our dead, there’s the briefest of moments before we kill while we literally hold their live in our hands and then we rip it away… and we are left with nothing. So gathering other people’s letters or writing their names on the wall it’s a reminder that in the end we’re left infinitely and utterly alone.
Remember when stefan comes to new Orleans, and klaus while giving stefan farewell, he actually offers a handshake and says take care of ur self old friend
This is literally 98% of the worlds Common misconception. Once this stop being a common misconception that Someone cruel cant also be empathetic or vulnerable. The world would have made a great step moving forward.
He said that right before he went to slaughter his hybrids! I always wondered why he said that at that very moment when he has his hybrids. He wasn’t alone.
I like Damon and Klaus because they don't try to act like holy men, like a bunch of moralistic friends. Who, when it is to their advantage, forget about their principles, can turn a blind eye to murder.
The fact that he can go from being sarcastic to suddenly sorrowful and serious is just amazing.
