  • Following your tips and advice last week, I’m making two easy cloches to protect the onions and garlic from the birds.
I’ve used water pipe, polythene and fleece for quick and easy construction.
This week I’m assisted by the super enthusiastic Delilah in her role of Chief Motivational Officer.
It would be lovely if you’d join us and subscribe to watch the allotment develop.
If you enjoyed it please hit the like button.
    Have a great week 😊 #allotment #raisedbedgardening #nodig #hoopcloche

Hi Clare, you have a new sub. Those clips you use for the fleece, you can buy them in the poundland shops, there are 4 on a card for about £1.00, probably cheaper than you paid for yours. A little tip, you could push canes into the ground at all 4 corners then oposite each other in the centre of the length of the bed, then put your mdpe pipe over the canes, that makes your hoops and they are stronger than just using those metal clips. I put canes along the top of my hoops, on the underside, so that fleece or netting doesnt get snagged on the ends of the canes, same along each side. Another tip if you dont want to buy clips, cut short bits of the blue mdpe pipe, maybe 2 " long, then cut them along their length, you can then prize them open and use to clip fleece or netting onto the timber frames of the beds or onto the hoops themselves. Lovely little channel you have, i look forward to catching up on your videos.

Hi Jimmy, thanks for subscribing. Those clips were exactly as you described, 4 for a pound, a bargain. I’m definitely going to try the method with the canes. I have some in the garage at home so will dig those out. Thanks for all the great tips 😊

Nice to see someone getting real green fingers and getting stuck in! Well done you. What a braw wee happy dug you have there. A great companion and I'll bet never a dull moment. I'm surprised her/his tail is still attached with all that wagging. Take care, stay safe and most importantly, have fun.

Numbers are growing so,hopefully other people will find your channel and enjoy as much as I and the others do. Having learned from a very stormy experience last week, I’d recommend pushing some bamboo canes or metal rods into the ground and pushing the pipe over the cames/rods to give it more resilience in the wind. If you watch the video I posted last week you can see the damage 50 mph winds did to my cloches 😢 I will rebuild them stronger next week!

When your dog quickly ran through your garden bed I couldn't help but think yikes, I hope you didn't have anything planted it in it! I'm struggling with the same thing. I do have 6 ft high fence to keep the deer etc. out! But our dogs need to be left outside the fenced garden area until my grow beds get higher. I'm not well off so I'm doing 12"h beds and 5gal buckets & bags, old bathtubs, horse troughs whatever I can find that will hold soil! So then I place the black bags around the old tubs to hide the rust lol. You have to put those bags on top of something such as a cinder block or they will soak up so much moisture everything will get moldy and rotten in them! When I can I'm going to add another 12"h level etc. Untill they are 4' high!
Yep, love gardener Scott. He's got good ideas.

There are onions in the bed she stomped all over 😆 I’m very lucky because the wood I used for the raised beds was gifted to me - off cuts that weren’t needed. It’s all used now but is enough to get me started. Good luck with the deer and the dog!

    • @Littlesheddiaries

Thank you 😊 I bought a 25 metre roll from Amazon, then it was just an estimation by physically holding the pipe in place so it was high enough. I’m not sure how high those onions will grow so I made sure there was plenty of room. Once I’d cut one I used the first as a template for all of them. With hindsight I would have made them a little lower.
I’m going to use Enviromesh to keep pests off, popping that on this week 👍

@@Littlesheddiaries that is awesome! I'm looking into some here where I live too. My growing space isn't all that much, but I found a shorter roll at the local animal shop (Felleskjøpet, in case you have some other Norwegian watchers). Hi Claire, just stumbled across your utube channel, look forward to seeing more of them 🙂 I've been using the sticks of bamboo canes for the hoops but they can break. I'm considering using the metal clamps for raised beds, what size opening have you been using, ie 25mm etc, not sure where to start with this...

    • @Littlesheddiaries
      @Littlesheddiaries  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Hi, thanks for subscribing. I used 25mm pipe. I’m going to look for some metal rods to support the pipe because the clamps alone failed miserably. I’m worried bamboo will snap because it’s so exposed up at the allotment, the wind really rips through it.
I’m glad you enjoyed the videos, I thinking will be nice looking back in a years time at how it has developed (I hope 😊).
