En el 2006 el Libro de Récords Mundiales GUINNESS reconoció a uno de NUESTROS TESOROS NATURALES, la hermosa BAHÍA MOSQUITO en Vieques, Puerto Rico como la BAHÍA BIOLUMINISCENTE MAS BRILLANTE DE LA TIERRA, y desde hace 15 años, no hay quien le tumbe el “record”.
Para beneficio de los hermanos que no saben lo que es una bahía bioluminiscente, es un cuerpo de agua que de noche, al agitar sus aguas … ¡BRILLA! … y se ve espectacular.
Esa impresionante luz azul neón es causada por microorganismos conocidos como DINOFLAGELADOS. En Puerto Rico tenemos mas de 12 cuerpos de agua con bioluminiscencia, pero ninguno mas brillante que la bahía viequense.
GUINNESS otorgó el récord MUNDIAL al evidenciar la enorme densidad de organismos en sus aguas; más de 700,000 dinoflagelados POR GALÓN, algo sin paralelo en ninguna parte del planeta.
Esto publicó la excelente revista cibernética Infórmate 360: "Estos elevados valores de dinoflagelados en la bahía se deben a características geográficas y climáticas específicas y a unas condiciones adecuadas de salinidad, pH, temperatura y oxígeno disuelto, entre otras. El hecho de que la bahía esté rodeada y protegida por manglares es otro factor importante para mantener la bioluminiscencia, gracias a que, por un lado, aportan nutrientes al agua, de los que los dinoflagelados se benefician y, por otro lado, colaboran a que el agua permanezca en la bahía durante más tiempo".
Para que puedas hacerte una idea, mientras en La Parguera hay cerca de 30,000 microorganismos POR LITRO de agua, en Vieques la cifra ronda los 185,000.

Si, para todos los envidiosos extranjeros que se les corroe las entrañas de envidia porque mientras ellos se arrastran y arriesgan su vida para llegar a ella y los estados unidos. Los puertorriqueños agarran sus maletas y un avión cuando quieren lo que es una píldora muy difícil de tragar para ellos. Esos son los privilegios de la isla pagar millones de dólares en impuestos anuales a Los estados unidos mientras sus paises solo envian sanguijuelas a drenar el sistema de welfare y Puerto Rico tiene que ayudar a pagar por ellos.
