I watched Oreimo back in 2015 so it's a pretty nostalgic show for me. After re-watching it about a year ago, I can conclude that it is complete garbage, but I absolutely love it. Something about the character dynamics and everything being so ridiculous gives it it's own charm that I have to give respect to. This video clearly has a lot of effort and passion put into it with the quality and length; it deserves way more recognition. Great work!
I WILL WRITE THIS FOR ALL WHO HATE OREIMO, PLEASE RECONSIDER For me Oreimo was one of the best anime, has comedy and drama, voice acting are stuning for all, especialy Kirino and Kuroneko, characters are very good with personality, the story is good untill the last 3 episodes who was too much but all of that because Kyousuke love (NOT SEXUAL) her sister Kirino from young age and Kirino admire his brother the same, and love of this two brothers increase every time, you can say where very close that is not a bad thing, as i say last 3 ep was a little to much for two brothers. This is Oreimo story Kirino and Kyousuke where very close brother when where was little, Kirino admire Kyosuke in all aspects and want to copy him but at one time Kyosuke didnt care so much about his sister because has interested in other girl from neighboorhood, Manami, thats why Kirino become angry of Kyousuke, later Kirino was interested in Eroge anime from a store with love between siblings, i think because was an unconditional love, TOO MUCH LOVE for her brother, later when Kyousuke discover the passion of Kirino, he understand her and become close again,Kirino loves his brother all the time thats why he keept an album with his photos in a box in her room like you can see in ep 13 season 2. That is a essence of this anime, unconditional love (NOT SEXUAL) between brothers.Kirino is a good girl even if a loot of time was angry to his older brother but you can see smiling a loot in this anime too, i dont know a loot of people say Kirino is rude with his brother, it like this because is care about his brother very much. The most important epiodes of this Anime you can find in season 2, ep 9 when Kirino admits why she doesent want her brother to have a reationship with other girl, and ep 13 when Kirino give to Kyousuke an album with photo of these two when where children. I like the most about this anime that pure love, NOT SEXUAL between this brothers, when Kirno was sad because her dad caught with his eroge CD, Kyosuke help her uncoditionately like in ep3 from Oreimo season 1, and when Kirino was gone in America for months, Kyousuke fly to her and admits how important is his sister to him, you can see this in season 2, ONA special ep 4, later in season 2 ep 9 when Kyousuke was crying because Kuroneko break with him and ask Kirino for help, his sister was hugging him and help him immediately. Only sad part about this anime was in season 2, special ep 1 when Kyousuke admit it that is in love with her sister even if Kuroneko admits earlier in the series was in love with Kyousuke. In my opinion Kuroneko was most beautiful girl in this anime and doesent deserve this. In conclusion OREIMO is stunning if you dont focus on the last 3 ep.
I am SO glad I found your review. I watched Oreimo when I was a teen, so when the nostalgia hit i decided to rewatch it. and i just... couldn't. it kinda shocked me how Kirino straight up fits all the criteria of the narssistic personality. and how the more she abuses Protagonist, the more he starts to contradict what he REALLY wants, living on the cramps of her attention. keeping all of this in mind, i kinda went through a couple of reviews, and was kinda relieved that i found yours. i got confirmation of what i felt. before that i felt kinda gaslighted,. and thank you, i will get my own slice of life
about 20% of this entire video is this guy trying to find the justification of Kyousuke wanting to help Kirino, aka his little sister. I mean, I guess if you're American i can understand since you guys seem to hate your family. Especially your siblings. I mean you send your old to live in a decaying place like retirement centers where the residents are constantly reminded that they have no one that loves them anymore and that they're only god knows how long away from dying alone.
- Your editing was entertaining - I enjoyed the Persona 5 ost in the background - I've never watched the anime but after vibing with your video it feels like I have thanks to your detailed explanations xD - Thank you for saving me some time and giving me more enjoyment than the anime would have if I had watched it xD - hahaha the animes such a mess - 39:59 "(this plot point) gets dropped faster than I dropped out of calculus" YOO SAMEEE I dropped out of it so fast but this plot point dipped before it even registered haha - lolll 41:16 I had my doubts but I laughed so hard at your explanation - 43:02 lmaoooo what they actually make a marriage promise??? nooooo - 43:20 hAH i love your expressions xD - 44:20 wowowowo nice character analysis - 45:32 yesss fightt lesgooooo "raised my battery to -10% loll" - "now go and get a slice of your own life" (lol I'll just get a slice of bread) (also I was working the whole time while watching this lol so that's already my slice of life & slice of anime) - "just waiting for the music to get to a stopping point" mood. me when i hear the alarm music go off. anyways good job on the video and thanks for your time working on the script, editing and also recording yourself talking about this haha - mel
I feel like these ANime YTers who don't even need to live in the rela world anyone thinking the very concept of being socially outcasted for likign Anime is some relic in the past are clearly living in a bubble. I can assure this stuff is still relevent, I live in a corner of my states where even normal American Comic Book stuff and wearing glasses still gets me called a Nerd. Meanwhile online anytime I comment using this account on a non Anime video I still inevtiably gets comments about the Anime Avatar meaning I'm a degenerate who''s opinions shouldn't be taken seriosully. So no this aspect of Oreimo hasn't aged poorly, if you are still living a life that requiring interacting wiht Normies outing yourself as a fan of Anime is till social suicide.
Sorry for the long comment. But since you made a 50 minutes video about Oreimo, I think I must also put some effort into this comment if I disagree with you. Hope that this comment would give you another look at the series. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The West like to think that Oreimo was "a disaster", but the true story is that it is actually a very successful franchise. It averaged 30000 copies of BD per volume (if you are not familiar, this is CLANNAD after story and steins gate level). The commercial success was not to be understated, no other non-action harem romcom has this level of commercial success. Moreover it single-handedly lead the Light Novel scene into the long title. There is undoubtedly something very special about this anime. I would say a humble approach is required in watching Oreimo. Watching you review, I genuinely think you are just scratching the surface of Oreimo. For example, take a deep look at the first few scenes of episode 1: 1. Kyousuke's dream of a different Kirino 2. Kyousuke unimpressed by Kirino's hard work or achievements (during breakfast and conversation with Manami) 3. Kyousuke expressed his wish to be normal, and "praise" Manami as "Miss normal". They are on the same mindset. 4. Kyousuke and Kirino are in bad relationships, but the bad vibe was coming from Kirino. They are not on the same mindset. If you watched the whole show, you would realize these are all important information and are consistent throughout the show. For example, during the argument between Kirino and Ayase, she was triggered when Kyousuke hinted that she didn't try hard enough. During the America trip, it was displayed what Kirino wants Kyousuke's acknowledgement on her hard work or achievements more than anything etc. The main arc of the anime is the ideological conflict between Kirino and Manami. Kirino has been extremely rude towards Manami whole anime and the reason was not revealed until the last 4 episodes. The end of the story is, in the process of helping and being groomed by Kirino, Kyousuke regained his helpful, capable, hard working personality, the Kyosuke who Kirino fell in love with. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You are also seems to confuse about many things that happened in this anime. I would guess some are due to lost in translation, or lack of attention (maybe because you don't have enough respect towards the anime?). I might take part 2 of your video as an example: In episode 4, you question why Kyousuke was still helping his sister that he is not acting unpredictable on reason. The answer is simple. That's because he found her cute since episode 3. That's the title of the whole show, and the title of episode 3. He is a pervert and he actually liked her. If you understand this point, then his action is actually very predictable. In episode 5, you haven't raised any question on this part, but I am pretty sure you are completely lost just by the way you describe it. The first sentence of the text message translates to "To big liar big brother". The flimsy cover story Kyousuke random came up has never fooled Ayase, instead it was what Ayase was looking for, a 3rd party to shift the blame to, such tendency has already been displayed during the early phone call between them. All of these are just play acting to save her own face. In fact the play act continues the whole series until the very end. Kyousuke pretends to be a person who sexual harasses, and Ayase pretends to believe it. This is what it means when he told Ayase "I will only sexually harass you". In episode 6, you are asking why Kyousuke wasn't acting out his words to live an average life. This is the theme of the show. Kyousuke was never an average student, he is very competent and has a high motor, and Kirino was wakening him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Characters One thing not to do is to take every appearance and dialogues at surface value, especially in a show where 4 main girls, 3 are Tsundere, and 1 is manipulative. Deep into season 2, with all the flashback episode and recording, you should understand the true colour of these characters, like: - Manami, instead of Kuroneko, is the actual rival of Kirino and had been grooming Kyousuke - Kirino is never an unreasonable person, there is a reason behind all of her actions and is actively grooming Kyouske - Kyousuke is only pretending to be an average student, and that he is into Kirino even before he dated Kuroneko - Saori is not a hard core otaku, she is in it for the social aspect and is trying to look as "otaku" as possible to shorten the distance - Ayase and Kyousuke are always in a play acting - Kuroneko knows Kyousuke and Kirino like each other all along - Kanako, being taken care by her sister, is certainly not uninformed about anime, which explained why she know how to sing the Meruru theme song Once you understand the character dynamics and re-watch the show, and you would be surprised by the amount of foreshadowing and details throughout season 1. You would also understand the commercial success of it. Characters have been the single biggest driving force for sales in anime. Comedies usually do not sell because they sacrifices characters for gags. Oreimo did not, the comedy mainly relies on dialogues and chemistry. This is the perfect recipe for sales and has been proven by the Monogatari series, and also all the idols anime. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You also doesn't seems to understand the epilogue of the show either. The anime version is a butchered version than the LN version, which was very subtle for legal reason. - Kyousuke used his wish for getting grade A to kiss Kirino in the mouth (LN), face (anime) - Kyousuke said "We are siblings, so what's wrong with that" - Kirino appears to be "angry" and said "We are going to have life counselling when we back home." The true wish of Kyousuke fairly obvious, is to privately substitute the definition of siblings with something else, working around the morality of the world (as the author working around publishers' censorship after the new censorship law). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Censorship Law The censorship law I am talking about is the "Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance Regarding the Healthy Development of Youths; Bill 156" in 2010 (taken effect in spring of 2011), positive depiction of incestuous relationship is outlawed. With the law, Yosuga no Sora in Winter 2010 became the last anime that could run away with relatively positive incest depiction. The LN of Oreimo was started in 2008, ended in 2013. The author was not allowed to end the novel the way he intended, a blood-related incest relationship. However, he was not deterred. In order to make sure the story ended with an incest route, he made this alternative ending which includes reject everyone significant other than her little sister, apparently ended the relationship, then a very subtle epilogue. In his next novel Eromanga Sensei, the siblings are no longer blood related. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thankyou if you actually read the whole passage. I am bias because I am obviously a fan, and I probably have watched the series at least 10 times in the past 12 years. It is not a flawless anime for sure, but I do think it is a very underrated anime. It is probably the show that is affected the most by social media (only in the English community too). Every time I checked its score it gets lower at a pretty fast rate. I am starting to think, maybe the new watchers are not watching the show with joy and respect, the way we watched it back then. Or it is just that the series is outdated and I'm a dinosaur for liking it. It is almost like people look at things completely different if things are introduced differently.
Don't worry about the long comment, in fact thank you for putting in so much thought into it. I feel its safe to say you watched the entire video, which means a lot to me especially given that you have such a different disposition to Oreimo than myself. Convincing people of something is extremely difficult, because if they don't want to be convinced in the first place, they won't be. As such, I don't feel it's necessary to go over all the points you bring up in your response. Sure, this is an opportunity to defend my position, but I feel it's better learn from it instead (I mean, unless you want me to give a defense). So again, thank you. :)

As a well adjusted human, I have no idea what this video is about. *Dabs perspiration*
lmao the fact that Kirino canonically played School Days💀
Wait what
You would think it was ayase who did
Its why kirino is the best girls.
Dang this show is hilariously contrived, great video
That's a funny way of saying 'Masterpiece' but I'll take it.
and oreimo is a masterpiece

I made a review about the series a few years ago. Season 1 was good but the second season felt like it threw itself in a dumpster fire.
I like disturbing horror anime and this is more creepy to me😂 stay away from your sister

Oreimo is the greatest dumpster fire ever
