Your approach works great thank you, what a ride. ;) I didn't have SD-Card:
1. When you open google from google maps open settings instead off files.
2. Go to usb settings and change from charge to file transfer.
3. Plugin your phone to your computer.
4. Download and copy the apk to your phone which is now possibile.
5. Open your files with google maps again and execute the apk.
6. Continue with the video.

Super. It works. On P9 Lite MINI is tutorial is a bit differrent, mainly in Google maps, there You must search throw another MAENU, because when You set Direction or so, the phone wants original Gmail account again
