*I recently purchased two of these for the company replace **do7.pl/VideoMic** a slightly more expensive model that was weary and road worn (aka broken). A better price point than the next model up and I still get the same great quality. I had previously purchased another, cheaper brand, to initially replace and they worked all right, but the shock mounts broke so i replaced those with these. Like I said the sound quality is on par with the more expensive Rode that I had before and is superior to the cheaper brand I tried. This one is, however, a bit more sensitive than the cheaper ones and you'll need to adjust your input levels so you don't distort...yes, I learned this the hard way when the DJ cranked up the music! I love the shock mount, it is durable and won't dry rot like the rubber type bands on the older model I had or like on the cheaper brand. They work great and even look cool on the camera...I'm a visual person so that's important!*
just bought this mic so im excited as it sits here still in the box . i did this backwards and bought before i looked up reviews . now im feeling alot better . great review and thank you .
Can you please extend the tests on this video to demonstrate of axis response outdoors. The video is very good but that is vital information that is missing from a shotgun mics comparison. TIA
Useful video.... I have one video micro...... Was thinking of upgrading to a pro version. Shall I ? Do you think it will make drastic quality improvement in audio. ? Will appreciate the response.
quick question dear sir :) let's say one wants to use the video micro for interviews and panels (not in auditoriums lol) but in a room. what's the maximum.distance between the camera-smartphone / microphone for the sound to be picked up correctly ?
I get background hiss while using this mic... why? I have heard there is no background hiss at all from every review I've ever watched, so it's pissing me off a little bit.
+wupup it may be that the audio capture device is set to high. Also are you recording near any transmitting devices, or while your audio device is charging?
The Northern Blogger my room is quite small, so yes I'd say my camera is somewhat near my TV and Xbox while I record. As for the audio settings, what should I turn them down to?
Try setting your audio levels to manual on your camera. Then go all the way down until it barely gets your voice. Then turn it up until it touches just the yellow levels a bit. It should never get to the red levels. It's ok if it's a little bit low.
What is the device you are using to mount Rode mic to your Panasonic video camera. It seems to be some kind of cold shoe that clips in behind the battery?
+karan kamal hi, it has no hiss or noise indoors. I was very surprised with how well it worked. All the audio is unedited so what you hear is how it was recorded. I hope that helps :-)
Hi, i'd viewed alot of rode videomicro's review and all of them doesnt have hissing sound, even yours performing very well here. But with my Nikon D5300, it getting hissing sound even the environment is completely quiet. Do you know how to solve this? Does it relate to camera itself? P.s. I tried the Manual audio level and still the same.
Chiu lala turn down the volume in the camera. The hissing sound is the sound of the preamp jacking up the volume after audio is received which distorts the sound
Hey Man, Not sure whether you figured it out already but I think its something to do with your VR stabilisation lens. Turn off stabilisation and see how you go! :)
Hi! I recently purchased this mic. I have the nikon d5500 (same as you) and i tried the mic on it. The quality seemed great however.... hissing. any tips? Thanks!
All you can really do is turn down the cameras gain and use a noise remover in your video editing software. Some D5500s are worse than others but the inbuilt preamp is susceptible to noise. Also try moving your mic around the area you’re filming to see if it’s static from something electrical nearby.

Finally, a review that actually tests all three! Thank you so much for this. You've solved a major decision for us.
i mean, you decided to buy which one? :D
@@tomaszbejnarowicz Rode VideoMicro

Thanks for the info. I just bought my Rode VideoMicro from amazon. Its compact size is great for travelling.
When running the camera on AC the Rode VideoMic and AX33 generate a terrible hum on the video.
How do you mount this on a smartphone?
Great video and I appreciate the work you put in recording samples. Thank you and I've just subbed!

The micro is great, but the Rode VideoMic NTG is the best on-camera microphone I own
Is the video micro good for recording at concerts?
Great test, you helped me make the right choice!!
how good will this mic do if I use it for a concert? should I put the dead cat or no?
Hey nice vid :) BTW you can remove the foam shield for the videomic pro.. you can also get a deadcat for it :)
Is it possible to connect this to Zoom H1 Audio recorder?
quick question dear sir :) let's say one wants to use the video micro for interviews and panels (not in auditoriums lol) but in a room. what's the maximum.distance between the camera-smartphone / microphone for the sound to be picked up correctly ?
Outdoor without the dead cat?
I want to ask, Rode micro can funtion for abdroid phone? Example Vivo v5 plus?
Atho ullah yes
If I'm doing sit down videos farther from the camera on a tripod what would you recommend
+Jack Steketee get an extension lead and move the mic closer
The Northern Blogger thank you
I don’t understand, I have the Videomicro, but it’s not working on my Canon Vixia Hf R80. Can somebody please tell me what’s going on?
Some cameras and camcorders aren't compatible with Rode microphones. The Vixia series is one of them.
Ryan How is it not compatible? What microphones are compatible with the Vixia and are there some that have windshields beside the Rode Microphones?
It has to do with getting enough power from the camera to the mic. This is where I read it: www.rode.com/faq/what-cameras-dont-support-the-videomic-go
Ryan Okay, thank you.
Can the videomicro be mounted on a tripod wthout adapters ?
+Hind Ouadi no it has a mic adapter so you would need a larger screw. They can be bought on Amazon though
+The Northern Blogger Thanks :)

wupup then it off. I have read reviews and they say to turn it off completely on your camera settings and you should be set !
VlogWithUsThree so turn it off to the point where there's no audio at all on the playback

It’s exactly that and comes with the Camcorder

+Dhika nr not without an adapter cable

Did u do any editing to the audio after this??
I only brought down the levels to match on each a tad for the video. Other than that it’s raw audio
Thanks for Upload
Does the rode videomicro have a hiss sound indoor? Also did you edit the audio for thia video or its default?
