I think in a way im already severed. At my job and in and day out I spend my day in a dissociated state, and when I get home I feel angry about things that happen yet can't remember exactly what did happen. I believe even the thought of willing going through with a more extrem version makes me feel sick, because why would you want to loose control.
one of the best summaries I've watched. And no, I wouldn't sever - I enjoy my work. I think the message is that everyone should strive to get a job they actually like/ can manage, not find ways to escape.
@@nikaknack "a symbolic manifestation of his buried anxieties" is very different from what I said.. also it might even be that his outie inducing these dreams into his innie with purpose... so anxieties is even more reductive of what's going on 😅
This show is the best exploration of workplace alienation I've seen. Ben Stiller may be a bit cringe IRL, but he's contributed to a banger of a TV show. Page 197 slaps.
Great video pal!!! Your enunciation is my ASMR😂 but fr this is an awesome show that deserves a proper break down and you nailed it!! Best of luck on the channel🫶❤️
I've watched all of the first series and I'm just like everyone else, gasping for series 2. I found your analysis asked all the right questions and it was very enjoyable. One detail jumped out at me - the ''Overtime Contingency Protocol''. The acronym OCP also stands for Outside(r) Context Problem. This is where a problem arises that is so outside the context of the subject that it could not be foreseen and cannot be dealt with or even imagined. It may just be a coincidence but I would imagine that is just how Dylan (or Dillon?) felt when his ''outey'' was interrupted. I throw this in for what it's worth. Thanks for a great video.
I just love that this show exist, and that it is basically a direct analogy for reality we live in today, just with all the messed up shit highlighted and exposed about working for corporations. At least these innies can say they truly don't know that the corporation they work at is evil... We know this but ignore it or obfuscate the immorality of it all.
Amazing video 🎉 I am from EU and here concept of working after office hour is not that common as in the US. But still I would not give up on 8 hours of my day. In the office despite work can be annoying, you still can make best out of it; socialise, gossip enjoy coffee etc.
I know sci-fi has talked about you know cutting off your brain so that you could like log into the Internet or something while your body is stuck running or doing my exercise to keep the meat soup in top order. And then of course, Rick and Morty had the night people who just wanted you to rinse off your dishes, but of course that family is terrible so it doesn’t work out. Like I have ASD, ADHD, GAD, MDD, PTSD, CPTSD … I am tired all the time … and I struggle with unalive, like I’ll sit here and cry and think it’s not fair that I have to continue to exist My son is disabled, I have a veterans pension, I just have to live tomorrow and more money arrives. But believe it or not living, when your brain is your worst enemy, is rough. And if you have chronic conditions, then just living is rough. If there could be another me who doesn’t have the same baggage, I have who could have a life, and I could take a break from existing, I’d probably be willing to rent out, far mode or even just give some of my life away to this other entity I guess this is parts work brought to the next level, IFS is gonna take over the world, internal family system for the win
But also, also, I can’t have my any being more effed up than I am, if they suffer more than I do by existing then I’ll just carry the weight. I don’t want the guilt of inflicting this existence on somebody else.
Thank you for sharing this. Severance does bring up that wish to step back from life’s hardest parts, especially when it feels overwhelming. But, as you said, there’s a weight in knowing someone else-even another ‘you’-could be burdened with that pain. It’s a deep and complex choice.
Thank you for pointing out the poor situation of the innies. They did not make a decision of their own but have to carry the consequences which is quite unfair. This might be a wild thesis but I think we all have agreed to sever when we chose to come to Earth. Isn't it an analogy? We come here with no idea of who we are (interestingly this is the first question to the innies when they wake up on the table - that has the form of a coffin - "Who are you!?" - and they can't answer. We feel lost and disoriented with no memory (of our previous incarnations). We are not really in control, we have to follow certain rules to survive. There is an illusion of free will but actually it's quite limited (in the show for example the food or the choice of music). It's a very fascinating watch with a lot of hints and symbols. I have watched it a couple of times and I am still intrigued!
I really hope they turn up the backroom horror element in season 2 and explore the liminal spaces. Encountering weird rooms and even weirder inhabitants.
What I sever it depends on the money. It also depends on the job. My current job. I like well enough that I would not sever, but I’ve had other jobs that I definitely would suffer from and I’ve had other times in life where I definitely need more money. I also need more money right now so I might changefor a lot more money.
Honestly and fair, i like. I also thought about this… the financial aspect can be a huge game changer for a lot of people, including myself, but it still feels kind of weird, especially what we saw with Petey
It’s a shame that the world we live in we have to consider selling our soul for money. Severance is basically just that. The people in that series are definitely selling their soul But I would still consider it for the right money and in the right circumstances. I must say I thought you must be a successful TH-camr. From watching your video on Severance. It’s really good and looks professional. I checked out your channel Looks like you’re just getting started. I checked out a couple of other videos. Your most popular I’m not familiar with that show. I checked out the Harry Potter one Those are very good also. I didn’t see much else I was interested in but I think you will not have to worry about money in the future because you will be successful at TH-cam. I wouldn’t sever… unless you look at it like an allegory about having children where the innie is the child and the outie is the parent… because then I’ve already done it.
Don't know how I came about your channel. I think it was the From video. Again a good video about another show I really like. Hope your channel grows! Also if you haven't seen them watch Dark and Silo! Also great shows with lots of mystery.
But no I don’t trust corporation, they are terrible, I was in the military, and I wouldn’t trust that either. People are terrible. Corporations are worse.
I don't mean to negatively criticise this episode of your show, yours, not severance, but one of the first questions I think many people would ask, and with reason, is how much and the answer would be related to how much one needs the money.
Soldiers have gone through and faced this for a millennium but since millennials and younger have never really faced the issue they see office work as too hard? 🙄

Oh yeah, just the idea of a company being able to control you is enough for me to really say no

You don't have to like it, but you should manage it. I like that
This is so well-written! Subscribed. 👍
Thank you! And thank You for the support!
This was a wonderful video. Can't wait for Season Two!
Thank you!!! Same!
the black goo is his outie's obsession seeping into the innie's mind via subconscious by not sleeping when outside the severed floor
yes, but I would also say that this is something that worries him as much as it is his obsession

Seems clear to me that part of the message is that we are already doing that by being slaves to the wage. Because so many of us have no other option.
And that is a very valid question, I do think there are some people in severance who did do it for this reason exactly

So, is "slavery" ethical?
No, the whole point of Severance is showing how dehumanizing it is to trap people in a role with zero freedom or choice 🙂
